News and Reviews: October 10, 2017

Tuesday 10 October 2017.
Happy Birthday to Midge Ure who is 64 today.
He is currently on a massive month long UK tour.

Monday 09 October 2017...7.15pm to 12pm...
BMI LONDON AWARDS live at The Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London W1.
BMI LONDON AWARDS: Annual London ceremony which recognises European songwriters and publishers of top songs played on US radio and TV in the past year. Legendary songwriter and lead singer of Jamiroquai, Jay Kay will receive the President’s Award in recognition of his profound influence on songwriting within the music industry.
I have been to this awards event a few times with past President's Award winners including
John Lydon, Yoko Ono and last year was Sting.
-----------------------------
Arrived at 7.15pm for an hour of complimentary Laurent Perrier champers reception at this five star hotel.
TITO JACKSON was here as he is in the UK to promote his new solo album and he picked up an award later.
I had a nice chat with him and got a photo with him.
FOALS are here as they picked up an award later.
JAY KAY arrived late with two personal security guys staying close all through the night.
Not sure why security stayed so close when it was an invite only private music industry event.
I got my photo taken with him.
From 8.15pm to 10pm was the three course dinner for the 300 guests.
We were part of the 20 or 30 press folks standing at the back and just outside the main room with champers.
At 10pm some 30 awards are handed out quickly to songwriters and publishers.
Ed Sheeran won two but sent a video message from Nashville.
At 10.40pm there was a 10 mins video highlights of Jamiroquai's career.
Jamiroquai have sold 27 million albums worldwide.
Jay Kay then gave a thank you speech.
At 10.50pm Jamiroquai played a two song semi-acoustic set with the full band.
'Love Foolosophy' and 'Space Cowboy'.
From 11pm was the post show party with full complimentary bar including Jack Daniels and Baileys.
An excellent event.

Sunday 08 October 2017.
THE PRETENDERS live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
I have seen The Pretenders around 20 times since 1979 when they played The Nashville Pub.
I saw them earlier this year at a one off UK show at The Royal Albert Hall.
To coincide with their UK tour they will release a two-CD ‘special edition’ of their recent album 'Alone'
that features a bonus CD of 15 tracks performed live around the world.
---------------------------------
It had to happen i suppose...Hammersmith Apollo now has airport type body scanner arches as you enter.
They have followed The 02 Arena, Wembley Arena and others by stepping up security.
We have great stalls seat down the front in Row H , just half a dozen rows from the stage.
In my row is Paul Cook (Sex Pistols/The Professionals drummer) and punk & reggae dj Don Letts.
Don was the dj at the legendary Roxy punk club in early 1977.
He was also in Big Audio Dynamite with Mick Jones when he departed The Clash.
Also here sitting just behind was Patti Palladin who recorded a great album with Johnny Thunders in 1988.
THE PRETENDERS arrived on stage at 8.50pm and played for 1 hour 45 mins.
Chrissie Hynde now aged 66 , still looks a proper rock chick in tight jeans and slender frame.
Drummer Martin Chambers is wearing a Mott The Hoople t-shirt from when I saw him drumming
with them on their fantastic reunion shows a few years ago.
The stage production with half a dozen lamps is the same as The Royal Albert Hall show earlier this year.
There was a warning that no photos to be taken during the show and Chrissie noticed a couple and said
"get rid of your camera' to them.
Half the folks got up and started dancing after 30 mins but security were telling them stand to the side.
Chrissie said "If I can stand up here at 66 then they can stand and dance wherever they want".
Chrissie talked fondly of all the great shows she had seen at this venue including two of the Kate Bush.
The new songs were good but the oldies went down a storm
Tracks including 'I'll Stand By You" and 'Brass In Pocket' and many more were excellent.
A great show.
Full Pretenders setlist played tonight...

Sunday 08 October 2017.
American movie mogul fired by his own company.
HARVEY WEINSTEIN has been fired by The Weinstein Company "in light of new information
about misconduct that has emerged in the past few days"
The New York Times reported that Weinstein has over the years reached at least eight legal settlements
with women over alleged harassment.
On the day before news officially broke of alleged sexual harassment stretching back decades, Harvey Weinstein, the 65-year-old movie mogul, offered this comment: “The story sounds so good I want to buy the movie rights.”
Entertainment journalists have also spoken about the ways in which the media might
have enabled him over the years, declining to publish stories about the allegations due to Weinstein’s immense power.
The last few years I have attended the Weinstein BAFTA after party which was always mega.
I wonder if Weinstein Co will still hold it without him?

Saturday 07 October 2017.
The first issue of SOUNDS music magazine came out this week in 1970.
Who remembers buying music papers every week before the internet came along?
Sounds was a UK weekly pop/rock music newspaper, published from 10 October 1970 to 6 April 1991.
It was well known for giving away posters in the centre of the paper (initially black and white, but colour from late 1971) and later for covering heavy metal (especially the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM)) and Oi! music in its late 1970s–early 1980s heyday.Sounds was the first music paper in its coverage of punk and bands including Iron Maiden.
One of the "trinity" of British music weeklies, along with NME and Melody Maker, Sounds folded in 1991.
A legacy of Sounds was the creation of the heavy metal/rock magazine Kerrang!, which was originally issued as a supplement before being spun off as a separate publication and is still going today.
Sounds, Melody Maker , Record Mirror are all long gone due to falling sales.
NME is now a freebie mag that barely resembles it's former life.

Mon 02 Oct to Fri 06 Oct---BBC Radio 6 Music.
Morrissey, Robert Plant, and Alt-J have been announced among the massive names taking part in this year’s

The Maida Vale sessions, which are returning for the sixth consecutive year, will take place from Monday 2 – Friday 6 October and will see performances being broadcast live from 10am-1pm every day.
The line-up will be completed by Mercury Prize nominated rapper Loyle Carner and post-rock icons Mogwai.

Also on BBC iPlayer and The Red Button for 28 days.
All five acts will play for around 60 mins starting at noon.

Friday 06 October 2017.
ROBERT PLANT & THE SENSATIONAL SPACE SHIFTERS live at
BBC Maida Vale Studios ,Delaware Road, London W9.
Rock legend Robert Plant plays an intimate show for just 200 people.
35,000 people entered the ballot for the 70 pairs of tickets for competition winners.
Production guests and press are let in first so I have a perfect second row centre view.
Just before the show started Robert Plant and dj Lauren Laverne are sitting on stools for 10 minutes
as Robert is talking excitingly about the new album and the great musicians in his band.
He said the album features Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde on a duet of the Ersel Hickey rockabilly classic
"Bluebirds Over the Mountain," as well as Albanian cellist Redi Hasa and Seth Lakeman playing fiddle and violin.
His 11th solo album "Carry Fire" arrives Friday 13th Oct 2017.
Robert Plant lived in Texas for a time before returning to England three years ago.
I was lucky enough to have attended the epic Led Zeppelin reunion show in Dec 2007 and you have
to respect Robert Plant for shunning a multi millions pay day for more shows to stay focused on his solo career.
ROBERT PLANT and his top notch band arrive on stage at noon and play for 65 mins.
Robert now aged 69 still looks like a proper rock star with his long wavy curly mane of hair.
They debut some really good songs from the new album along with some mega Led Zeppelin classics.
Robert and the band are very tight and real craft is put into all of the songs.
Looks like fiddle & violin player Seth Lakeman is now a full time member of the band.
Pretty stunning to see Robert Plant up close like this.
Full setlist played tonight...
What Is and What Should Never Be (Led Zeppelin song)

After the Robert Plant show I walked to the nearby Little Venice as it was a lovely sunny day.

This venue is normally pretty reserved but tonight is a full on late night party event.
It was still very lively when I departed.

Wednesday 04 October 2017.
TORI AMOS + BELL X1 live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
BELL X1 are on stage for around 35 mins.
They have released several albums since 2000.
They have the same booking agent as Tori Amos so have got the support slot on the whole European Tour.
Bell X1 are festival and arena headliners in their native Ireland and play to ever growing numbers on their
regular North American tours.
Major success has eluded them in the UK but they played Islington Assembly Hall in 2016.
Aside from U2, they are the Irish band with the most airplay in their native country and, according to Billboard,
also the second biggest live performers.
They played some gentle warm songs with nice lyrics and harmonies.
They are a three piece with no drummer.
They went down well with the crowd.
TORI AMOS arrived on stage at 8.40pm and played for around 95 mins at this sold out show.
This performance is Tori’s eighth at the Hall, a venue she first performed at in 1996.
I have seen her once before at this venue.
Tori Amos released her new album (her 15th), 'Native Invader' in September, accompanied by a world tour.
Produced by Amos, the album explores topics like American politics and environmental issues, mixed with mythological elements and first-person narrations.
Tori arrives on stage in a red Kimono style dress.
A simple production as Tori is on her own between a piano on one side and a keyboard on the other.
Some interesting light projections and some fairy lights used on some songs.
Great to hear a tribute to Tom Petty with a few lines of his classic 'Free Fallin'.
Tori Amos certainly has hints of her heroes Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell in her songs and stage presence.
Tori is a proper respected artist who ploughs her own path regardless of current trends.
A good show.

-------------------
At around 10pm we both started getting shock texts about TOM PETTY.
Legendary artist Tom Petty has died aged 66, his family has confirmed. Confusion surrounded the singer over conflicting reports of his wellbeing, which emerged after he experienced a heart attack at the age of 66. The singer-songwriter was reportedly rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica and sadly passed away.
I had seen him play on every visit to the UK he made since the late 1970s.
I first saw him in 1977 when he was a support act at Hammersmith Odeon.
He only played four UK shows in the last 15 years which were 2 shows at The Royal Albert Hall in 2012
and a massive Hyde Park show just 3 months ago in July 2017...I was at all three of them...
Also Isle Of Wight Festival headline show in 2012.

Monday 02 October 2017.
Shock news of a mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas in America.
Fifty plus people have been killed and more than 200 injured in the deadliest mass shooting in
modern U.S. history after a gunman opened fire at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
Hundreds of shots were reportedly fired over several minutes, causing festival goers to immediately flee
the Route 91 Harvest Festival at around 22.30 (05.30 GMT).
The gunman, who has been named as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, with eyewitnesses reportedly seeing gun flashes before police stormed the building.
Let's see how Donald Trump deals with this and the current gun control laws over there.

then

Half a dozen exhibitions on here but i am mainly here to see the Bauhaus one.
Staatliches Bauhaus , commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicised and taught.
Some of you may remember the band called Bauhaus from the early 1980s.
I saw them play live once back in 1980...supporting Gary Glitter of all people...
Not as busy here as the previous gallery.
There was a Banksy here for £200k and an Andy Warhol for £450k.

NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS HERE'S THE SEX PISTOLS on LIQUID VINYL.
There are so many different versions of this album it is unreal, both official and counterfeit but surely
this one takes the biscuit as the most bizarre and unusual.
Never Mind The Bollocks (Virgin V2086)
Notes. Counterfeit surfaced July 2017.
Origin seems to be Germany, possibly via Russia.
Number manufactured in single figures, possibly as low as 2.
The clear vinyl record contains a red/rust coloured liquid mixed with glitter. The liquid moves freely when the record is tilted. The colour shade varies depending on light and angle of view.
See the amazing pictures of it on my link for www.sex-pistols.net on the right.
I must keep an eye out for it at the next record fairs i get along too.

Saturday 30 September 2017.

CHAS & DAVE + JACKIE LYNTON BAND live at The Beck Theatre,Hayes, Middlesex.
Chas Hodges, one half of music duo Chas & Dave, had cancer of the oesophagus earlier this year.
The 73-year-old had treatment "immediately" after the illness was caught "at an early stage".
Shows from the first six months of this year were postponed to the last six months of this year.
Cockney chaps Chas & Dave were one of the support acts to Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in 1979.
In the late 70s/early 80s they had ten top 75 hits including three top tens.
Support comes from Jackie Lynton who is still rockin' at age 77.
Jackie Lynton – was vocalist for a stint with Savoy Brown (1972–1974).
I saw Jackie Lynton Band in 1981 supporting Budgie at Hammersmith Odeon.
Jackie provided the great spoken word intro to Status Quo's live album in the 1970s.
---------------------
It is a sold show tonight at this cosy 600 capacity all seated venue.
JACKIE LYNTON BAND arrived on stage at 7.35pm and played for 40 mins.
Jackie Lynton starts his set by telling a couple of funny saucy jokes.
He then proceeds to tell a saucy joke before the start of each song.
His band played rock n roll covers by the likes of Joe Cocker,Rolling Stones and BB King.
His was an ideal support act for tonight's crowd who really liked him.
CHAS & DAVE arrived on stage at 8.35pm and played for 65 mins.
Chas & Dave are most notable as creators and performers of a musical style labelled "rockney" (a portmanteau of "rock" and "cockney"), which mixes "pub singalong, music-hall humour, boogie-woogie piano and pre-Beatles rock 'n' roll".
A uniquely British sound that they play on stage with a drummer to make up a trio.
65 mins on stage seemed a bit short but they whizzed through around 20 songs.
All the main hits were played as the lively crowd all sang along.
A few started dancing front of stage for the last few songs and it was great fun.
Full setlist played tonight....

Story of the day...
Frances Bean Cobain gets a staggering 100,000 dollars (£70,000) a month from her late fathers estate.
I don’t know if it’s because of who her parents are, or because her Instagram handle is @space_witch666, but I never really imagined Frances Bean Cobain, the 25-year-old daughter of rockers Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, dealing in something as pedestrian as money. Rather, I pictured her floating ethereally into stores and offering the cashier a loose joint or a spell in exchange for some sort of semi-sheer, floor-length black dress. As it turns out, though, Frances Bean both earns and spends money, and a great deal of it.
According to documents from her ongoing divorce proceedings against her estranged husband, Isaiah Silva, Frances Bean Cobain earns over $100,000 a month from her late father’s estate, People reports. Of that, over $95,000 comes from publicity rights, and over $6,500 comes from dividends. In all, she is reportedly worth more than $11.2 million.
Her estranged husband is looking for a $25,000 a month divorce settlement.

Wednesday 27 September 2017...I went to two events tonight...
6pm to 7pm
QUAGLINO'S - showcase - 16 Bury Street, St James's, London SW1.
Quaglinos was a famous restaurant in the period 1930s to 1950s.

They are showcasing their venue to get bookings in the pre-Christmas period.
A couple of years ago they had a refurbishment which included a stunning oval shaped bar in the middle
and a stage at the far end for live acts every now and then.
Complimentary prosecco, wines and canapés for all the guests.

Sad news that Playboy founder HUGH HEFNER has died at the age of 91.
He began the international adult magazine in 1953
Playboy Enterprises Inc said he passed away peacefully at home in the early hours from natural causes.
Hefner began publishing Playboy in his kitchen at home in 1953.
It became the largest-selling men’s magazine in the world, shifting seven million copies a month at its peak.
I was at an event at the London Playboy Club only last week.

Tuesday 26 September 2017...I went to two events tonight.

El Greco to Goya - Spanish Masterpieces from The Bowes Museum - private view -

The Wallace Collection presents El Greco to Goya - Spanish Masterpieces from The Bowes Museum: the first London exhibition of Spanish art from The Bowes Museum in County Durham, including works by Goya and El Greco.
This collaborative exhibition between the Wallace Collection and The Bowes Museum celebrates the partnership between these two great museums. Like the Wallace Collection, The Bowes Museum is the product of one family’s obsession with collecting great works of art. John Bowes and Richard Wallace – both illegitimate sons of aristocratic fathers – bequeathed collections of international significance to the nation.
The exhibition spans three centuries and explores one of the largest collections of Spanish art in Britain.
Admission is Free.
It is on until Sun 07 Jan 2018.
There are other free exhibitions on here too.

WILKO JOHNSON BAND + DR JOHN COOPER CLARKE live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
2017 is certainly a special year for Wilko Johnson: not only does it mark the 30th anniversary of the
Wilko Johnson Band, but this year sees the guitarist celebrating his 70th birthday...(12 July 2017)...
Given the events of recent years, when Wilko was diagnosed with, and overcame, terminal pancreatic cancer,
this celebration at the Royal Albert Hall is all the more meaningful.
I saw Wilko playing with Dr Feelgood three times at Hammersmith Odeon in 1975/1976 before he left them.
I have seen him a few times as a solo artist.
I first also saw punk poet support Dr John John Cooper Clarke in the late 1970s.
--------------------------
Wilko had terminal pancreatic cancer with which he was diagnosed in 2012.
He was initially given 10 months to live after rejecting chemotherapy, but had radical surgery.
Before his health problems he was playing small venues like 100 Club and 229 Great Portland Street
then when he toured after he played bigger venues including Koko and Shepherds Bush Empire.
Folks wanted to see him playing live in case "he popped his clogs".
They say "death sells"...also it seems so does "near death".
Tonight he is playing his biggest ever show...although the circle is 75% unsold.
Support act DR JOHN COOPER CLARKE arrived on stage at 8.30pm and was on for 45 mins.
This Mancunian was very entertaining as usual with jokes between his great poetry.
Setlist tonight included...

Hire Car
Get Back On Drugs You Fat Fuck
Beasley Street
I've Fallen In Love With My Wife
Evidently Chickentown
I Wanna Be Yours
WILKO JOHNSON BAND arrived on stage at 9.40pm and played for 75 mins.
A simple stage set up with just the three band members arriving on stage to big cheers.
Wilko Johnson is still doing his jerky movements on stage (his so-called "duck walk")
with a choppy guitar style, occasionally raising his guitar to his shoulder like a gun.
He great playing style is the same as he is not using a pick but instead relying on fingers.
Wilko is one of those guitarists who do not use any type of effects pedals.
Nice rock n roll blues boogie mixing their own material with a few Dr Feelgood classics.
An enjoyable show.
Full setlist played tonight...

Tuesday 26 September 2017.
Update.
The Vivien Leigh Collection auction sale took place on Tuesday.
The items went for a total of £2.2m.

Monday 25 September 2017...I went to two events tonight...
6.30pm to 8pm
THE VIVIEN LEIGH COLLECTION - private view - Sothebys ,34 New Bond Street,London W1.
Hollywood icon and incandescent star of one of the most beloved films of all time, Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) captured hearts and minds with her fiery, luminous performance as Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind in 1939. Her legendary status in the pantheon of all-time greats was assured when she secured what perhaps remains to this day the most coveted role in cinema history. Our perception of such legends is often imperceptibly entwined with the myths they come to embody. This September, a spotlight will reveal Vivien’s private side when Sotheby's London brings to auction ‘The Vivien Leigh Collection’.
Passed down through Vivien’s family, the collection comprises paintings, jewellery, couture, books from her private library, Hollywood memorabilia, furniture, objets d'art and further items celebrating all aspects of her life, from the pre-war years in London, to Hollywood and beyond, up to her death in 1967. Myriad pieces drawn from the city and country homes Vivien shared with her husband Laurence Olivier will give a new perspective on Vivien, from her appreciation of art and patronage of Modern British artists, to her passion for books and fondness for entertaining and interior design.
Around 450 smartly dressed upmarket folks are on the guest list here.
Designer Nicky Haslam (long time friend of Mick Jagger since the 1960s) and Lady Alice Manners were here.
Complimentary Ruinart champers,Vodka Martinis,Gin Martinis and canapés for all guests.

8.30pm to 11.15pm
THE GREAT BRITISH POSTCARD COMPETITION , Design Awards & Art Auction ,Proud Gallery ,Camden,London NW1.
This event was put on by print giants SAXOPRINT from Germany.
THE BIG ISSUE are the main sponsors.
Around 200 guests are here.
Punk Icon JOHN LYDON (Sex Pistols/Public Image Limited) was here as the head judge.
There must be at least 200 great postcard designs on display in the middle of the venue.
Some are blown up to poster side and are hanging on the walls.
At around 9.15pm John Lydon arrived on stage for 20 mins to talk about the shortlisted postcards.
He also slipped in his thoughts on Brexit, Arsene Wenger etc.
The winner was 'End of the Road' by Helen Nodding.
After the awards were handed out there was an art auction and one piece was described as
'The first ever painting by John Lydon to go on sale"...it sold for £750...it was also signed by him...
I had a nice chat with John Lydon and John 'Rambo' Stevens afterwards and got a nice photo with Mr Lydon.
John Lydon's wife Nora was also here.
John Lydon stayed around for drinks after and chatted and posed for photos with the guests.
A full complimentary bar including Jack Daniels & Coke for all guests.

Sunday 24 September 2017.
THE FIZZ live at The Theatre Royal, Windsor,Berkshire.
Cheryl , Mike & Jay - formerly of Bucks Fizz play a UK tour to promote their first new single and album
for over 25 years.
They shot to fame after winning the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with hit single 'Making Your Mind Up'.
The routine for this song included the famous skirt ripping stint.
They sold millions of records in the 1980s which included three number one hit singles among seven Top 10s.
I saw them headline Hammersmith Odeon in 1982.
-------------------------
My credibility has gone right out the window as i venture out to see The Fizz/Bucks Fizz.
Three of the four original members are here tonight looking good for their age and the new man
looks like a dead ringer for the departed member.
Cheryl Baker still has that great personality of hers.
THE FIZZ were on stage for 1 hour 45 mins over two sets of 45 mins and 60 mins.
Things take a turn for the worse when i realise there is no backing band but just a dodgy backing tape.
There is a big screen mixing old video footage with computer images.
The show included half a dozen tracks from the new album along with their 1980s hits.
They second set included a 15 mins plus medley of 80s cover songs that went down well as all
the crowd got up to dance along and it stayed that way for the following two big hits.
The band have basic dance moves that some of the crowd are copying.
It is only the second show on the tour so they do not look fully rehearsed.
Good to hear the hits again and an enjoyable enough show...despite the use of a backing tape..
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS
Piece Of The Action...a number 12 hit from 1981...
My Camera Never Lies...a number one hit in 1982...

Saturday 23 September 2017.
VAN MORRISON live at Nell's Jazz & Blues Club, 3 North End Crescent,West Kensington,London W14.
Sir Van plays the second of two sold out shows at Nell's Jazz & Blues Club.
Incredibly Van has played this intimate 400 capacity venue over 20 times in the past three years.
This venue is owned by live music venue owner legend Vince Power who sold his Mean Fiddler Group for £38m in 2005.
Van how aged 72 has just released his 37th studio album 'Roll With The Punches'
which sees him re-visit his first love : The Blues.
The 15 track album blends R&B and soul gems with brand new material.
Produced by Van Morrison himself, collaborators on the record include Chris Farlowe, Georgie Fame,
Jeff Beck, Paul Jones and Jason Rebello.
I have seen Van play live over 15 times since the first time in 1979 at Hammersmith Odeon.
Nells is two minutes from the site of the legendary venue The Nashville Rooms Pub( which is now called
The Famous Three Kings ) which was open from May 1975 to July 1980.
I saw 32 gigs there including AC/DC, Rich Kids,Joy Division,Damned and Pretenders.
-----------------------------
Great to finally get to this venue for the first time and it is totally buzzing inside from a full house.
A nice layout with seats in front of the stage and a raised platform at the back for standing.
I have a chat with owner Vince Power who tells me it is Van's 26th show ,yes 26th show at this venue.
I have a perfect view in the VIP seating area right of stage sitting near actor Bill Nighy.
After the show he ended up on the same District Line tube train as me.
VAN MORRISON and his band took to the stage at 8pm and played for around 85 mins.
As expected the set is a mix of tracks from the new album and some older classics.
Vans voice is sounding better than ever and he can still play a mean sax.
Vans band is top notch..and they need to be as the spontaneity of his performances, with his band, sometimes not knowing what song is coming next along with Van giving them a nod or glance to play louder or quieter / faster or slower.
A well deserved full standing ovation from the crowd at the end of a great show.
A real privilege to see this music legend up nice and close in this intimate club setting.
Setlist tonight included...

American soul singer CHARLES BRADLEY has sadly died aged 68.
The artist had been diagnosed with cancer in October 2016, and the disease returned earlier this year
Bradley had been suffering from stomach cancer after first being diagnosed with the disease last year. Earlier this month, he was forced to cancel a string of live dates after the cancer returned and spread from his stomach to his liver.
I saw him play live at Shepherds Bush Empire a couple of years ago.

Saturday 23 September 2017.
Happy Birthday to Bruce Springsteen who is 68 today.

Friday 22 September 2017.
RYAN ADAMS + KAREN ELSON live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
Ryan Adams (not to be confused with Bryan Adams ) plays a sold out show at The Royal Albert Hall
Ryan Adams sixteenth studio album 'Prisoner' picked up rave reviews, ahead of his return to the Hall.
He is a 42 year old prolific singer-songwriter in the alternative country rock vein.
---------------------------------
Before the support played and during the interval it was all AC/DC classic tracks over the PA.
Support act KAREN ELSON arrived on stage with her band at 7.50pm for a 40 mins set.
She is a singer-songwriter and model who was born in Manchester.
Decent enough songs that went down well with the crowd.
Elson has two children, Scarlett Teresa and Henry Lee, with former husband Jack White (White Stripes etc).
RYAN ADAMS and his great band arrived on stage at 9pm and played for two hours.
Lots of nice keyboard and guitar sounds through the evening.
There are 16 tv screens on stage as part of the stage production.
I have seen Ryan live a couple of times before but I only know a couple of his songs.
I prefer his rock side to the mid paced material.
Karen Elson came on stage for backing vocals on a couple of songs.
A good show.
