Monday 06 August 2018.
The Official Top 8 biggest VINYL albums of 2018 so far...
Amazing how many classic older albums are still selling on vinyl.

Sunday 05 August 2018...6.15pm to 8.45pm...
My band from the early 1980s - Gun Control - are having our 5th rehearsal in North Acton.
It was our first rehearsal for over a month due to holidays and stuff.
Things going a bit slow as we cannot get our original singer up from Southend where he now lives.
Our new singer is doing a good job.
Hopefully there will be a couple of gigs just before Christmas.

Saturday 04 August 2018.
Visit The Sex Pistols website link on the right to see my review of Glen Matlock @ Boisdale,
along with a nice photo of Glen Matlock and Earl Slick.
Jimmy Page never let anyone in his Holland Park Grade 1 listed house that he bought back in 1972.
That has now changed.
Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page invited Channel 4 news into his house for a look around.
This follows a couple of articles in newspapers & magazines.
William Burges, who designed the house, entertained his arty friends there in the 1870s.
'The Tower House' has stunning rooms with some incredible looking features.
You can see why it looks a bit delicate if neighbours start excavating.
No doubt this is to gain public sympathy in the planning row with his neighbour Robbie Williams
who wants to build a basement complex including a swimming pool.

Friday 03 August 2018... I went to three events tonight...
4.30pm to 6.30pm

The Clio is one of only three cars, the others being the Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra, to have been voted European Car of the Year twice, in 1991 and 2006.
On display is a Renault Clio from 1990 and the latest model that is in showrooms now.
A full 1990s theme going on here with family games from that time, posters everywhere from The Spice Girls,
Friends, Wayne's World etc, a dj playing tunes from the 1990s.

GLEN MATLOCK + EMILY CAPELL live at Boisdale, Canary Wharf, London E14.
Sex Pistols legend Glen and his band play the final night of his five shows at this venue.
Back to see Glen for the second time this week as it is a great show.
Again there are lots of folks here i know which is nice.
Singer Patti Palladin is here who recorded a great album with Johnny Thunders.
'Copy Cats' is a 1988 album by Johnny Thunders and Patti Palladin.
It is a set of rock and roll oldies, originally recorded from 1954 to 1969.
Chris Musto's current band mates from The Bermondsey Joyriders are here.
EMILY CAPELL played a few sings again before Glen came on.
As it was the last night, Earl Slick joined her on guitar for one song.
GLEN MATLOCK & band arrived on stage at 9.50pm and played the same 80 mins set as Monday.
He came on stage later tonight as it was a Friday.
We are standing left of stage with a great close up view.
As it was a Friday night the crowd were a bit more livelier than on Monday.
Glen tears into the tracks from the new album which is out in September.
Earl Slick guitar playing is sublime and stunning.
Needless to say 'God Save The Queen' and 'Pretty Vacant' were mega.
Another great show.
Glen chatted to fans and signed stuff just a few minutes after the show.
Glen gave me a signed copy of the new album.
More shows are planned for the rest of the year...hopefully Earl Slick can make them.

Thursday 02 August 2018...6.30pm to 10.30pm...
SOUL OF ANGOSTURA - press showcase - Cottons Rum Shack & Restaurant, 55 Chalk Farm Road, London NW1.
COTTONS is a colourful laid-back environment offering a taste of island life with Caribbean dishes and drinks.
It is just two minutes walk from The Roundhouse and bigger than it looks from the outside.
ANGOSTURA is one of the Caribbean's leading rum producers with a superb collection of rum brands and is the world's market leader for bitters.
ANGOSTURA bitter is a concentrated bitters, or botanically infused alcoholic mixture, made of water, 44.7% ethanol, gentian, herbs and spices,by House of Angostura in Trinidad and Tobago. It is typically used for flavouring beverages including cocktails such as Bloody Mary, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Pink Gin, Pisco Sour, Rum Swizzle, Singapore Sling etc.
It is also used in food.
The bitters were first produced in the town of Angostura (Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela) (hence the name), but do not contain angostura bark. The bottle is easily recognisable by its distinctive oversized label. 'Angostura' is Spanish for 'narrowing', the town of Angostura having been located at the first narrowing of the Orinoco River.
The award winning Angostura can be bought in stores including Tesco.
We are sat in the upstairs area (they have a basement area too).
At 7pm we had an introduction on the history of ANGOSTURA rum & bitters.
We had a fantastic selection of drinks and Caribbean food here tonight that was hugely enjoyable.

New York Doll guitarist Sylvain Sylvain turned up at Glen Matlock's Tuesday show at Boisdale.

Matlock will be promoting his new album 'Good to Go' which features his mates' Earl Slick from

and Jim Lowe, who produces the Stereophonics, is going to play bass.

Tickets are £25 general admission or extra to include a three course dinner before the show. their website here for more info and to buy tickets.
Visit the Sex Pistols website link on the right for a full track by track album interview with Glen.
With support from Emily Capell.
Up and coming star Emily Capell, enjoys residencies at Camden Town's Proud Gallery and Dublin Castle, as well as a string of big festival appearances such as Glastonbury and Latitude. Her new single Joey very recently had its debut play on BBC 6 Music.
My third visit to this venue that is getting more and more big name acts playing there.
They have one of the biggest collections of whiskies & cigars in the UK.
Support act EMILY CAPELL sung a few songs and played guitar before Glen come on.
Some good tunes there with hints of Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse.
Most are sat at tables but Glen arrives on stage and says "we may be in a supper club restaurant
but we are a rock & roll band so get up and dance if you feel like it".
GLEN MATLOCK & band arrived on stage at 9.25pm and played for around 80 mins.
From the start the band are totally rockin' as Glen opens with the first of eight tracks
from the new album that will be featured during the evening.
Glen has been playing many of the new tracks live over the past couple of years so it is
great he has finally got them out on his new album.
Chris Musto and Jim Lowe are providing solid rhythm backing as legendary guitarist Earl Slick
plays amazing solos and deft licks pretty much during every song as he weaves his magic.
For those of you that don't know , Earl Slick replaced Mick Ronson in David Bowies band.
Glen in his Billy Fury style jean jacket and Earl in cool clothes and shades both still have plenty of
rock star swagger.
Glen gets the crowd to sing and clap along to many of the songs.
There were a few choice covers including a Bob Dylan gem in the encore.
No Rich Kids classics played tonight as Glen focused on new album tracks but superb versions of
Sex Pistols anthems 'God Save The Queen' and 'Pretty Vacant' brought the house down.
It is always good to see Glen acoustic but with a superb band like this the songs just sound bigger & better.
A great show that i will hope to get along to again on Thursday or Friday.
Full Glen Matlock setlist played tonight...
1.Wont Put The Brakes On Me
3.God Save The Queen
4.Sexy Beast
5.Hook in You
6.Speak Too Soon

After the show Glen chatted with fans and signed copies of the new cd which is not in stores until September.

Monday 30 July 2018.
Happy Birthday to KATE BUSH who is 60 today.
Today is the 80th birthday of The Beano comic.

Sunday 29 July 2018.
I went to two events at The Barbican Centre today.
3pm - first event was in the theatre - capacity 1156.
7.30pm - second event was in the hall - capacity 1943.
BARRY HUMPHRIES - WEIMAR CABARET live at The Barbican Theatre, London.
Australian comedy legend Barry Humphries is better known as Dame Edna Everage.
Barry Humphries is our masterfully seasoned MC and cabaret diva Meow Meow our chanteuse in this risqué, sophisticated and seductive tribute to the jazz-infused music of the Weimar Republic.
Some describe it as cabaret’s golden age: the remarkable period in 1920s and 30s’ Berlin when hedonistic partying and social revolution turned nightclubs into hotbeds of decadent entertainment. Reawakening that spirit, our hosts acquaint us with the oft-forgotten composers of the time, many Jewish, whose art would be condemned as ‘degenerate’ by the Nazis, dancing as it did on the edge of a precipice.
This was the final performance of around 20 shows of the run in this venue.
The show was on for two hours over two sets of 60 mins.
I had a great view in the second row on the right side of the stage.
I was close enough to see Barry taking sneak views at his scripted words on the two stage monitors.
Between songs Barry laces the show with hilarious Dame Edna type banter.
Barry is now aged 84 but still briefly dances with Meow Meow a couple of times.
The sultry Meow Meow nicely sings the songs in German backed by a 17 piece orchestra.
A full five minute standing ovation at the end brought a tear to Barrys eyes.
A very enjoyable show.
STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES + THE MASTERSONS live at The Barbican Hall, London.
THE MASTERSONS arrived on stage at 7.30pm and played for 30 mins.
The Mastersons, husband and wife duo Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore, are an American alternative country band from Brooklyn, New York who have released three albums together.
They were up introduced on stage by Steve Earle himself.
They played a decent set of songs and later would form part of Steve Earle's backing band.
STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES arrived on stage at 8.30pm and played for 1 hour 55 mins.
Tonight was the last night of their month long UK & European Tour.
Steve Earle, now age 63, is an American rock, country and folk singer-songwriter, record producer, author and actor.
Earle began his career as a songwriter in Nashville in 1982 and has released over a dozen albums.
Steve has also received three Grammy Awards.
I first saw him play live a couple of times in 1997.
Steve is promoting his 2017 album ' So You Wannabe an Outlaw' so we got several tracks from that.
Steve is still a 'heartfelt country rock outlaw' with political views in his songs.
Steve said "tomorrow we fly back to California, so we are gonna dedicate this song to the fire fighters
who fighting the those terrible fires in California".
A great band that included some nifty pedal steel guitar on most songs.
Great to older gems including 'My Old Friend The Blues', 'Someday', 'Johnny Comes Lately' ,
a great version of 'Copperhead Road' and a cover of 'Hey Joe'.
The official video for 'Copperhead Road' has been viewed over 96 million times on YouTube.
Steve got a full standing ovation at the end.
A very enjoyable show.

Saturday 28 July 2018.
Reading 0 Crystal Palace 4...pre-season friendly...
My friend gave me use of one of his season tickets and we had a fun afternoon.
My first time at this nice stadium which is three miles from the city centre.
It is a friendly game so maybe 6,000 here out of a 24,000 capacity.
Wilfried Zaha may be dogged by transfer doubts off the pitch but on it he was his irrepressible self as he scored twice for Crystal Palace in a 4-0 friendly win over Reading.
The Ivory Coast international has rejected a new contract offer and told Palace he wants to leave for Champions League football.
Tottenham and Dortmund are leading the chase for Zaha but that did not stop Eagles boss Roy Hodgson naming him in a strong side at the Madjeski Stadium that also included Alexander Sorloth.
Reading fans were very quiet and the away supporters easily out-sung them.

Friday 27 July 2018.
LITTLE STEVEN & The Disciples of Soul live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
The final date on their current European Tour.
I saw them play a two hour show at Indigo in Oct 2016 for BluesFest.
I saw Little Steven play live four times as a solo artist back in the 1980s.
They release Soulfire Live!, a 24-track collection recorded last year in North America and Europe
during the legendary rock 'n' roller's first tour in nearly two decades.
He is a founding member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, co-producing the seminal albums “The River” and “Born in the U.S.A".
Level 3 upstairs is closed off as unsold which is maybe due to the fact Little Steven has played
London a bit too often recently as he was here in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Playing three hour plus sets with Bruce Springsteen has certainly rubbed off on Steve & his top notch
band who arrived on stage at 8.15pm and played a nice long 2 hours 50 mins set.
Little Steven clearly loves American Soul from the 1960s and American girl groups from the the 1960s.
The setlist was a mix of his own material and cover songs.
An excellent big soul band that included a five piece brass section and three black female singers
with big hair and plenty of energetic dance moves.
The first hour was a full tilt , uptempo ,big brassy soul sound then there several slower songs , then
back to full tilt for the last 30 mins or so.
It was a very impressive wall of sound when the band were at full tilt.
Near the end they were joined on stage by Ali McKenzie from The Birds who were Ronnie Woods
first band , back in the late 1960s.
Almost hidden by the fifteen in total on stage was Lowell Levinger of The Youngbloods who Steve namechecked during the night and a band who epitomised his influences in the full on soul revue.
The video cameras were here for a future release.
A great show.
Full setlist played tonight...

PET SHOP BOYS live at The Royal Opera House, London.
Pet Shop Boys will return to the Royal Opera House for four special shows in July 2018, two years after their debut performances at Covent Garden.
The duo will return with their 'Inner Sanctum' show, which sold out in record time in 2016 and was staged by Es Devlin and choreographer/director Lynne Page.
I went to one of their shows here in 2016 which was fantastic...a top notch visual treat.
I have seen them play live a few times over their 30 year career.
This was the second of their four sold out nights here.
The opening show got loads of great five and four star reviews.
Floor stalls seats were a hefty £110 each...lots of gay men here who can afford it...
Not many bands get to play this stunning venue.
PET SHOP BOYS arrive on stage at 8pm and play for 1 hour 45 mins.
From the start it was a full on disco pop extravaganza with all the crowd up and dancing.
Again it was a visually stunning show with a big screen showing superb images ,lots of lasers,
lots of lights, bizarre headgear, a few costume changes and some dancers.
All their classic hits were played and a few of them were re-worked versions.
'Go West', which singer Neil Tennant introduces with a typically wry “We’re going to do another old song but in a new version. But which old song? There are so many to choose from".
Near the end for four songs we had over 20 telly tubby type dancers in inflatable costumes on stage.
A great show.

Sunday 22 July 2018
SYLVAIN SYLVAIN + LONDON SS live at The Dublin Castle, Camden, London.
New York Dolls guitar legend now aged 67 is on a UK club tour to promote his autobiography.
I saw his last London show at The 100 Club in July 2013 which was great but not sold out so
i presume that is why he has chose this tiny 150 capacity venue.
Not surprisingly tonight is sold out and it's hot and humid inside the venue.
Great to see so many of my older punk rock chums here.
Some faces here including...
Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream)
Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth)
Chris Musto (has drummed with Johnny Thunders, Glen Matlock and others)
Knox ( The Vibrators)
LONDON SS were one of those bands that were about just before punk rock took off.
They were founded in March 1975 by drummer Geir Wade, bassist John Brown, guitarist Mick Jones(later of The Clash),and guitarist Eunan Brady (formerly of the Hollywood Brats). In 2012 Brady put together a new lineup, featuring himself along with Jimi McDonald, Taj Sagoo, Michael Kane, and Andi Emm. Other past members from the 70s included Tony James.
We caught 20 mins of their planned 45 mins set. They have a great front man and their good set
included covers of The Beastie Boys and New York Dolls.
SYLVAIN SYLVAIN arrived on stage at 9.35pm and played for around 65 mins.
Only 10 actual songs played but each one was introduced with a nice story about how the band was formed,
playing gigs at Mercer Arts Centre and Hotel Diplomat (I stayed there for a fortnight in 1979),
meeting Johnny Thunders for the first time and some of the chaos the band brought upon themselves.
Sylvain played an acoustic guitar for the first half of the show then he switched to electric guitar.
Johnny Thunders band singer from the late 1980s , Alison Gordy was on backing vocals.
The set included classic Dolls tracks, solo material and cover songs.
He was joined by Thurston Moore for 'Personality Crisis'.
Final song was the Johnny Thunders classic 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory' which was
superb as Sylvain and Alison shared vocals and remembered their sadly missed friend.
A great show.
1.Teenage News
2.Looking for a Kiss
4.Femme Fatale
5.Keep It To Yourself (brand new track)
6.C'mon Everybody
7.Jet Boy
9.Personality Crisis (with Thurston Moore and others)
10.You Cant Put Your Arms Around A Memory
After a 10 mins break Sylvain Sylvain came back on stage for 25 mins interview with the promoter.
Sylvain has got a great memory for events from the late 1960s / early 1970s.
The New York Dolls split up in 1975 which was before punk rock kicked off and Sylvain said
"we were over before we had the chance to play the recently opened CBGBs".
After that was several questions from the audience.
After that he sold & signed copies of his book and there were 30 or 40 buying.
Luckily we got our books signed earlier in the week so no need to hang around for that
as it was approaching 11.30pm.

Sun 22 July---London Live tv at 10pm - "The Filth & The Fury'"...excellent Sex Pistols film documentary...

HUAWEI Phone Destruction Booth - launch party - 19 Greek Street, London W1.
This was one of those pretty crazy events.
Whether it’s poor battery life or sub-standard selfies, the nation’s smartphone gripes have been well-documented. To give people a chance to vent years of built-up frustration, Huawei is launching an ‘A Phone’ Destruction Booth in Soho, London, where consumers will get the chance to literally let it all out by smashing up smartphones.
This unique experience was created after research revealed that 63% of 2,000 British smartphone users are in a love/hate relationship with their phones, with poor battery life cited as causing more stress than arguing with a partner.
On entering the destruction booth, ‘smashers’ can pick which smartphone they’d like to destroy, and choose one of ten different weapons – including mallets, axes, baseball bats and frying pans – with which to vent their frustrations. Huawei staff will be on hand to capture each moment in every grizzly glory, ensuring that attendees leave with a stunning slow mo video of their experience – all captured on the HUAWEI P20 Pro.
Anyone who wants to smash all their troubles away in the A Phone Destruction Booth can head to to book their free 10 minute slot. Full protective gear will be provided, and all phones will be recycled – so at least their existence won’t have been completely futile...
Around 120 guests are here at this Soho townhouse space.
Strictly star Mollie King was behind the decks at 19 Greek Street to help launch Huawei's latest phone range. Ashley James and Professor Green were among VIPs invite to smash up their old phones by the technology brand, joining the likes of Love Island's Samira Mighty, Frankie Foster, Ellie Jones and Georgia Harrison at the Soho launch.
On one floor there is a coconut ( replaced by old phones ) shy and a dj is on the top floor.
It was a bit crazy as there was proper phone destruction room with a see through glass.
The VIP guests signed a waiver, then put on overalls and goggles then went into the room.
A staff member would tell them to smash away for 30 or 40 seconds but if the phone falls off the table
do not go near it as he will come in and put in back on the table.
For one phone destruction some fumes came out and caused the fire alarm to go off and that
room had to be evacuated for around 15 minutes.
HUAWEI are showcasing their nice P20 phone with Leica retails for around £500.
Around 20 or 30 VIPs smashed up their old phones and got a brand new P20.
A friend i know got one so he was very happy...but sadly no new phone for me.
Other VIPs who had a nice iPhone or Samsung did no think it was worth the trade in.
Complimentary prosecco and beers for all guests.
Like i said , a pretty unique and crazy but fun party.

and saw The New York Dolls many times when they reformed.
Sylvain Sylvain now goes on a UK club tour for the next two weeks to promote the book.
