They were mega , but obviously not happening anymore.

Saturday 01 February 2020.
THE WILDHEARTS + BACKYARD BABIES + CKY live at The Forum, London.
The Wildhearts will head on a UK tour with Backyard Babies towards the end of January in support of their recent album "Renaissance Men", which was recently named the best album of 2019 by Classic Rock staff and writers.
I have seen The Wildhearts a few times including in 1996 when they were one of the support bands
for The Sex Pistols mega gig in Finsbury Park on their Filthy Lucre tour.
I saw them play a rockin' show in 2019 at Sub 89, Reading when they were supported by The Professionals.
I saw Backyard Babies three times around 20 years ago in 1998,1999 and 2001.
The 2001 show was when they supported Motörhead at this same venue.
A nice three band rock package tonight as all three have had a decent amount of success.
------------------
Downstairs is full tonight but the rear corners of the balcony are closed off as unsold.
CKY arrived on stage at 7pm and played for 40 mins.
They have released five albums but their early success in America has dwindled.
They have a few of their own fans down the front and played a decent set.
Tonight was not really billed as a co-headline show but both the main acts played 70 mins.
BACKYARD BABIES arrived on stage at 8.05pm.
A nice surprise was that their walk-on track was a Sex Pistols tune.
These sleaze rockers have released several albums that have charted back home in Sweden.
Really good uptempo rock n roll tunes that went down well with me and all the crowd.

THE WILDHEARTS arrived on stage at 9.45pm.
The Wildhearts have been dedicated to hard rock and punk metal for almost 30 years. There have been ups and plenty of downs, break-ups, line-up changes, drink, drugs and almost hits.
Ginger on vocals still has his full length dreadlocks swinging as he headbangs away.
Ginger has rock n roll in his veins and was pretty much the Lemmy of the 1990s.
Their loyal fans lapped up the frantic uptempo pace of the tracks played in the setlist.
Plenty of crowd surfing as 20 or 30 fans ended up in the pit as front stage pit security earned their money.
This is still plenty of life in The Wildhearts.

Very sad news that ANDY GILL has passed away.
Andy Gill, guitarist and founding member of legendary post-punk band Gang of Four, has died today following a short respiratory illness...he was 64...
I saw Gang of Four play a few times during their heyday period of the late 1970s/ early 1980s.

Friday 31 January 2020.
Happy Birthday to Punk Icon JOHN LYDON who is 64 today.
A good time to play some classic Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited.

John Kani’s highly acclaimed play Kunene and the King marks the 25th anniversary of the end of apartheid in South Africa with a strictly limited London run at the Ambassadors Theatre following on from its premiere in Stratford-upon-Avon and the sold-out run in Cape Town.
Jack Morris is a celebrated classical actor who has just been given both a career-defining role and a life-changing diagnosis. Besides his age, Jack has very little in common with his at-home nurse, Lunga Kunene, however, the two men discover their shared passion for Shakespeare, which ignites this ‘rich, raw and shattering head-to-head’ (The Times).
A very appropriate venue as the play is based around apartheid in South Africa.
We had a couple of speeches from the stage.
Complimentary wines, beers and a huge hot buffet including roast chicken ,roast cod, cottage pie, veg, rice
along with desserts.
www.theambassadorstheatre.co.ukVisit their website here for more info and to buy tickets.
---------------------
This is good news for The 100 Club.
Westminster Council has today acted to secure the long-term future of London’s legendary 100 Club with an announcement that the venue will be offered 100% Business Rate Relief from 1 April 2020. The decision reduces the overhead costs at one of the world’s oldest and most famous venues by over £70,000 per year. It follows a long-term campaign to attempt to keep the venue at the heart of London’s nightlife on Oxford Street stretching back over a decade and which included a concert by Sir Paul McCartney (I was there - 10 Dec 2010) aimed at raising funds.

Tuesday 28 January 2020...6.45pm to 9.15pm...
COSTA BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD , Quaglino's , Bury Street, St James's, London SW1.
Around 250 guests at this restaurant & bar that has been here since 1929.
Pennie Smith was the host and a few well known faces were here including
ex BBC newsreader Michael Buerk and comedian Helen Lederer.
I have been to this award ceremony several times and Pink Floyd legend DAVID GILMOUR has turned up
a couple of times to support his wife Polly who is an author. They are both here tonight.
I have a nice chat with him for a few mins while Polly is talking to someone else.
I told him" i saw him three times (including one show in the front row) at The Royal Albert Hall on his last tour".
He said how much he loved The Royal Albert Hall and mentioned some great venues in France and Italy.
I told him i went to see his guitar collection at Christies last year that he donated to charity.
(The David Gilmour Collection, the largest and most comprehensive sale of guitars ever offered at auction, sold for $21,490,750 at Christie's in New York).
I said " by selling most of his guitars does that mean he is retiring a bit?".
David said "Not really ,as i am still writing and recording and hopefully there will be an album and tour".
"The problem is writing and recording an album can easily take two or three years".
I asked him if he would tour without a new album to play tracks from?...David said "No".
Jack Fairweather won the £30,000 prize.
The former war reporter Jack Fairweather has won the Costa book of the year award for The Volunteer, his biography of a Polish resistance fighter who voluntarily entered Auschwitz in order to reveal its horrors to the world.
Fairweather’s life of Witold Pilecki, a member of the Warsaw resistance who infiltrated the concentration camp and encouraged rebellion, was hailed as “a book that needs to be read” by the chair of judges, Sian Williams.
Complimentary champers, wines, whiskey & cokes, mini-cheeseburgers and canapés for all guests.
All guests got a goodie bag with a shortlisted book inside along with a few Costa items.
--------------------
Very sad news that tv and radio legend NICOLAS PARSONS has passed away.
Broadcaster Nicholas Parsons has died at the age of 96 after a short illness, his agent has confirmed.
Parsons had hosted Radio 4's Just A Minute since its inception in 1967.
"Nicholas passed away in the early hours of the 28th of January," said a statement issued on behalf of his family by his agent Jean Diamond.

Monday 27 January 2020.
Happy Birthday to rock legend NICK MASON who is 76 today.
I am hoping to see his band again in May when they play another UK tour.
------------------
THE STRANGLERS are to play a "Final Full UK Tour" in Oct/Nov.
They intend to take a step back from extensive tours with a full production in the UK and have released the details of a ‘Final Full UK Tour’ which will consist of a mammoth 21 date itinerary spanning from late October through to late November.
Special guests on the tour will be Ruts DC.
I have seen The Stranglers play around 20 times since 1976 which was with their original line-up.
www.thestranglers.co.ukVisit their website here for a full list of their tour dates.

Sunday 26 January 2020....6pm to 9pm...
My band GUN CONTROL, with me on drums had a rehearsal tonight.
We went though our setlist a couple of times.
A bit rusty as expected but great fun.
We have our next gig in a couple of weeks.
The set will be a couple of songs shorter as we are sharing the bill with a covers band.
-----------------
Happy Birthday to guitar legend EDDIE VAN HALEN who is 65 today.
-----------------
Very sad news about the death of an American basketball legend...
NBA legend KOBE BRYANT and his oldest daughter, Gianna, were killed in a helicopter crash in California.
The 41-year-old and his daughter were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the private helicopter went down.
Type this sentence in Google search to see this 5 mins docu and see what a huge name he was in America.
Kobe Bryant - "KOBE" (Short Film 2017)
In the past week LeBron James surpassed Kobe Bryant to become the NBA's third-highest scorer of all time.
James, 35, scored 29 points to move to 33,655 career points, 12 more than former Laker's star Bryant.
Kobe Bryant retired in 2016 after winning five NBA championships.
KISS frontman Paul Stanley, Five Finger Death Punch's Chris Kael, Whitesnake's David Coverdale are among the rock stars who have reacted to the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant who died on Sunday at the age of 41.

Saturday 25 January 2020.
A BOWIE CELEBRATION live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
A slightly different line-up to the one i saw this time last year.
Long time Bowie keyboard player Mike Garson is still there, and most of the band have had links with Bowie.
Band members include Mike Garson, Gerry Leonard, Carmine Rojas, Kevin Armstrong, Alan Childs plus
vocalists Corey Glover (Living Color), Sass Jordan and Mr Hudson.
I was lucky enough to have seen the real David Bowie around 20 times since Wembley Arena in 1976
and i was at both his last ever London shows at Wembley Arena in Nov 2003.
I also got his 'Heathen' album signed by him at HMV London in Sept 2002 when it came out.
In 1997 i reviewed David Bowie at Shepherds Bush Empire for the local paper.
--------------
It is a near sell out tonight (around 1800 out of 2000 tickets sold) as all levels are pretty full.
A BOWIE CELEBRATION arrived on at 8.05pm and played for around 2 hours 20 mins.
The first half had several lesser known tracks and the second half had most of the Bowie classics.
Four different vocalists where used throughout the evening.
The vocalists did a good job but none had the pure rock n roll charisma of a big name vocalist.
It was great to hear so many Bowie gems played tonight.
Bowie tunes , like Prince tunes will live on forever, such is the quality of them.
A very enjoyable show.

It is FREE ENTRY for all tonight as this pub in leafy Chiswick has free entry gigs on most Fridays.
Around 70 or 80 folks here , with most sitting in the pubs comfy chairs & sofas.
DS4 are on stage for around 90 mins over two sets of 45 mins each.
DS4 played a set featuring tracks from all their five albums.
They are joined on several tracks by a superb harmonica player.
Plenty of great lyrics and nifty guitar playing.
David is very comfortable on stage talking to the crowd as he has interviewed many big name musicians
as one of the main music critics of The Times for many years.
We get a couple of anecdotes from a couple of the many legends he has met.
A superb cover of "Sweet Jane" went down well with the crowd.
A really good show.

Fact of the day...
Some of you older rock fans may be remember a band called TEN YEARS AFTER.
They played the original Woodstock Festival in 1969 and toured relentless around that time.
Nevertheless, the relentless schedule continued – successfully, too. The 28 US tours (yes an incredible 28 US tours in 7 years) they notched up between ’68 and ’74 was unequalled by any other British band.
Alvin Lee left the band in the 1970s to focus on his solo career.
I saw him play solo shows in 1978 and 1988 at Hammersmith Odeon.
I saw Ten Years After (with Alvin Lee) reunions in 1983 and 1990.
I saw Ten Years After with new singer Marcus Bonfanti a few years ago.

Thursday 23 January 2020.
THE TESKEY BROTHERS + WILSN live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Australian blues-rock group, The Teskey Brothers, are embarking on a world tour in support
of their second album," Run Home Slow"....which went to number 2 in Australia and number 77 in the UK...
The show sold out in advance, with the help of cheapish £20 tickets.
----------------
WILSN arrived on stage at 8pm for her 30 mins set.
Soulful white female Aussie singer who was backed by piano and drums.
"Do This" and "Home" showed off her powerful loud voice during a good set.
THE TESKEY BROTHERS arrived on stage at 9.05pm for their 95 mins set.
There are seven musicians on stage including keyboards, trumpet, trombone.
Recent London shows were at The Jazz Cafe and Union Chapel so this is their biggest London show to date.
I did not know any material by The Teskey Brothers in advance of this show.
For some reason i was expecting more uptempo blues rock rather than their slow-paced Americana songs.
The brass duo did a good job of lifting the songs to loftier heights.
The singer has a lovely white soulful voice.
Final encore of "Hold Me" was the best song for me as the crowd sang loudly along.
The setlist was a bit samey and not very lively but it was an enjoyable show.
Full Teskey Brothers setlist played tonight...
Man of the Universe
Let Me Let You Down
Carry You
Say You'll Do
I Get Up
Rain
San Francisco
Sunshine Baby
So Caught Up
Paint My Heart (included a long guitar solo)
Louisa (included a drum solo)
Right for Me (included two brass solos)
Encore:
Pain and Misery
Hold Me (extended version with all the crowd singing along loudly)
----------------
In the current edition of Vive Le Rock mag i came across this little known fact.
NODDY HOLDER the ex singer from Slade has again said he was asked to join AC/DC before Brian Johnson.

Wednesday 22 January 2020...I went to two events today...
1pm to 3pm
LONGINES WORLD'S BEST RACEHORSE AWARD at The Landmark Hotel, Marylebone, London NW1.
Around 200 guests at this plush five star hotel, including some big sporting names.
Frankie Dettori (probably the worlds top jockey)
John Gosden ( British racehorse trainer. He has trained over 3,000 winners worldwide, including winners of the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Derby, the Arc, the King George, the Eclipse, and over 600 winners in the United States).
Victoria Pendleton ( British jockey and former track cyclist)
Andre Fabe (French thoroughbred horse racing trainer).
Rosie Tapner (Model and ambassador for the British Equestrian Federation).
Three horses have jointly earned the title of Longines World’s Best Racehorse for 2019, a first since the award was created in 2013. Equally rated at 128, Crystal Ocean, Enable, and Waldgeist share the 2019 title after a year of compelling competition.
The trio of European runners competed against each other throughout the year, trading victories as they did so. Crystal Ocean won the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes, while Waldgeist was third; Enable beat Crystal Ocean by a neck in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes with Waldgeist in third; and Waldgeist turned the tables on Enable when he defeated her in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (which won The Worlds Best Horserace).
Frankie Dettori and John Gosden hope to get Enable running again at Royal Ascot.
Complimentary champers, wines and canapés for all guests.
All guests got a goodie bag on departure.
then
6pm to 8pm
SONY MUSIC SHOWCASE , The Arts Club, Dover Street, London W1.
Around 100 guests here at this cool private members club.
Sony have flown in a few of their staff from around Europe so they must have high hopes for him.
At 7.15pm SAM FISCHER & his band performed four songs.
Australian-born singer/songwriter who relocated to L.A. to pursue a solo career with his R&B tracks.
This was his first time on a UK stage but Sam and the band sound really good and showing no sign of any nerves.
He finished the set with "This City" which the audio version has had over a million listens on YouTube.
He had a bit of a Sam Smith vibe about him and could easily have big success in the future.
Complimentary Moscow Mule cocktails, wines, beers and canapés for all guests.
---------------
Very sad news that TERRY JONES has passed away.
The death of a close friend is not traditionally the occasion for a joke. But when that friend is a fellow Python, it seems entirely appropriate.
It was announced on Wednesday that Terry Jones, founder member of Monty Python, had died at 77. He was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia in 2016.
John Cleese’s response? A statement that ended: “Two down, four to go,” referring to the deaths of Jones and Graham Chapman, and the remaining members of the troupe.

Tuesday 21 January 2020.
STEREOPHONIC'S + ASH live at The Forum, London.

Their 11th studio album "Kind" was released Oct 2019 and was another number one album for them.
I have seen Ash several times since 1996.

The trio from Northern Ireland played a good set full of their best tracks.
Singer Tim Wheeler is still playing his trademark Flying V guitar.

STEREOPHONIC'S arrived on stage at 9pm and played for 1 hour 55 mins.
A nice stage production with loads of lights.
Singer Kelly Jones is now aged 45 but somehow looks the same as he did 20 years ago.
Loads of their catchy singalong radio friendly hits played in their set.
Kelly gave a thanks to Absolute Radio (was previously Virgin Radio) who always play their songs.
They finished off with a mega version of "Dakota".
A great show.

Happy Birthday to rock legend PAUL STANLEY from KISS who is 68 today.
-------------------
40 years ago this week i visited Amsterdam for the first time.
On 23 Jan 1980 I popped along to a famous live music venue to see popular Dutch band called The Scene.
The singer sadly died of cancer in 2015.
The Paradiso Club is still going strong.

Sunday 19 January 2020.
DRAG SHOW BATTLE at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
It’s the US vs the UK as queens from both sides of the Atlantic deliver a night of non-stop entertainment, hosted by the sensational Danny Beard and Victoria Secret.
Adore Delano, Miz Cracker, Meatball, Yuhua Hamasaki,Joe Black, Juno Birch, Vinegar Strokes, Lydia L'scabies, Chiyo Gomes, Ginny Lemon will also be performing.
Many of the acts will be at Olympia this weekend for RuPaul's DragCon.
Daily Mail reported this the following day after Saturday at Olympia...
Furious fans have branded drag icon Ru Paul's DragCon UK convention a 'shambles' after being forced to queue for hours outside the venue amid reports the event has been overbooked.
Those attending the event being held at Olympia London have taken to social media to share their anger after waiting to enter convention for up to four hours.
------------------
For whatever reason the ticket sales for this show were a disaster as only 400 tickets sold in total
for stalls and Level 1 out of the 2000 capacity.
The show was on for 2 hours 40 mins over two sets of 85 mins and 75 mins.
The two hosts did most of the on stage bitchy banter and introduced the acts.
All the acts mimed a couple of songs each in their outrageous costumes & routines.
One track in each set so they could do a full change of costume.
One girl did a great routine based around a Spice Girls medley.
One girl did a great Amy Winehouse impersonation.
She finished her routine by taking her shoes off and doing a full crowd-surf over the front rows.
Plenty of entertaining bits and plenty of pretty average bits throughout the evening.

Saturday 18 January 2020.
CHASE RICE live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Level 3 is closed tonight so maybe 1200 are here.
OWEN DAVIES arrived on stage at 7.45pm and played for 30 mins.
Owen is a young male country singer-songwriter from the UK who sung some decent tunes.
He told an amazing story where he was busking in Liverpool and Chase Rice walked past him,
liked what he heard and asked him " would you like to support me at Shepherds Bush Empire".
MADISON KOZAK arrived on stage at 8.20pm and played for 30 mins.
Canadian female country singer-songwriter played a decent set.
She said she has been living in the Nashville the last few years.
Songs like “Little Bit Of You”, which neatly segues into “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” are about her own life experiences. The unreleased “Loud House” discusses growing up in a large family, “Phases” is about the boy that broke her heart (“this one’s for you Kyle”, she says, still smiling) but best of all is “First Last Name” the one she dedicates to her dad. Truly heartfelt, to the man who started her off on this path, and and a nice cover of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” gets all
the crowd singing along loudly.
CHASE RICE arrived on stage at 9.20pm and played for 1 hour 40 mins.
Chase Rice is an American country music singer-songwriter who has had success back home.
Chase arrives on stage wearing a baseball cap, and is the spitting image of Prince Harry.
He has a great band who all hail from South America , and were much more rockier than expected.
Chase has nice clear catchy vocals and he has two songs with Jack Daniels in the title which is great by me.
He gets a girl on stage for some flirting during the song "Ride".
He sung his big country hit "Eyes on You" that had all the crowd singing along.
He also sung "Cruise" which was the big country hit he wrote for Florida Georgia Line.
After the first mega hit of his career “Ready Set Roll” from back in 2013, he’s done. But not before he goes down to meet his people, sign autographs, shake hands and have selfies with most of the front rows. All the while the band plays a metal riff, as if they are finally glad to. The band finish the song and join him in the pit to sign stuff and pose for selfies.
He played Bush Hall last time and it is pretty clear Chase Rice will be getting bigger success in the future.
A really good gig that ticked all the right boxes.
