02 Aug 2008.Sex Pistols + New York Dolls + Buzzcocks + The Kids live at The Lokerse Festival near Gent,Belgium.A great line up of punk legends here tonight. In the town square with a full house of 15,000 by the time The Pistols came on.Up first we have Belgium punk band The Kids. They are a bit third rate but the locals love them and they finish well with Sham 69s "If The Kids Are United"....next up are The Buzzcocks who play a great 45 mins set.Steve Diggle on guitar is well up for it probably due to his booze intake before the show backstage. Loads of great tunes inc "Boredom","Fast Cars","Autonomy","Breakdown","What Do I Get", "Promises","Harmony In My Head","Orgasm Addict" and "Ever Fallen In Love".At the end Steve Diggle pushes the drum kit over in true rock n roll style.Excellent.....This was only the second time The New York Dolls had played on the same bill as The Sex Pistols. They played for an hour and were brilliant.Loads of great tracks inc "Babylon","We're All In Love","Private World", "Dancing On The Lip Of A Volcano","Looking For A Kiss","Rainbow Store","Pills","You Cant Put Your Arms Around A Memory","Dance Like A Monkey", "Trash" and "Jet Boy".Excellent stuff......The Sex Pistols come on at midnight and play a fantastic 90 mins set.The place is now rammed. Watch the first three songs from the photo pit then the rest of the show in the main crowd. So many great songs inc "Pretty Vacant","Holidays In The Sun","No Fun","Steppin Stone","Seventeen","Problems","God Save The Queen" and "EMI".Encores of "Bodies",Anarchy In The UK","Silver Machine" and "Roadrunner".John Lydon is on top form with his onstage banter and the band are great. This was the third time i have seen them on this summer tour.Superb. See aftershow page for this gig.................. 31 July 2008.Billy Idol live at Brixton Academy. London. This was Billy Idols last show on this European Tour.He has sold over 20 million albums. He is promoting another greatest hits album "Idolize Yourself" which has just come out. Now aged 52 he still has a body that the girls swoon over.Loads of catchy pop rock tunes in the 1 hour 45 mins set inc "Cradle Of Love","Dancing With Myself","To Be A Lover","Sweet Sixteen", "White Wedding","Eyes Without A Face","Ready Steady Go" and "Rebel Yell".Guitarist Steve Stevens was on top form and ended up doing three solo guitar spots.Encores inc "Hot In The City" "Speed" and "Mony Mony".A very good show. See aftershow page for this show................ 30 July 2008.Deep Purple live at Excel,Docklands. Only UK show on their current European Tour. Its a pain getting to this venue but its a lovely summers evening in the fresh air instead of some sweaty humid club. Its a near sellout tonight and more people here than at the Blondie show.Again i am standing 20 yards from stage left. These classic rock legends played a solid 95 mins set. Setlist inc "Into The Fire","Strange Kind Of Woman" recent album title track "Rapture Of The Deep" also "Mary Long".We had solo sections from ALL of them. First it was guitar and keyboards and later on drums and bass.More gems later inc "Space Trucking","Highway Star" and of course "Smoke on The Water".Encores of "Hush" and "Black Night".A good one . 29 July 2008.Kylie Minogue live at The 02 Arena, London.Back again to see Kylie here for the second time. Its her third show of seven 02 shows.Great seat to the right of stage where Dita Von Teese is behind me and 1970s NME writer and music expert Paul Morley is in front of me.Of course its the same show as three days ago. This really is a full monty stage production that is more Cirque De Soliel/West End Theatre than a run of the mill pop show. Its visually brilliant with so much going on.While Madonna is still the female Queen Of Pop for live shows Kylie must surely be The Princess Of Pop live... ........ 28 July 2008.Blondie live at Excel,Docklands, London. This was show number six of ten live music events at The British Motor Show. This venue holds 6,000 and is basically held in one of Excels carparks with a stage. This Blondie tour is to promote the 30th anniversary of their 1978 album "Parallel Lines".Needless to say i saw Blondie twice in 1977 and twice in 1978 and many times after.Debbie is dressed in black and white stripes like the cover and the stage backdrop is the same. The 90 mins set had a few tracks off the last two studio albums buts its the old hits this crowd want to hear.Setlist inc "Hanging On The Telephone","One Way Or Another", "Picture This","Sunday Girl" and "Heart Of Glass".Debbie then threw her shoes out into the crowd which are a nice item for any Blondie fan. Weird thing that there were three teenage girls dancing by the band ON stage left who seemed like promoters friends but Blondie left them to it. Also "Maria" and a neat version of "Rapture" then "Call Me".Debbie Harry and Chris Stein looked like they were going through the motions a bit but the sterile venue did not help.Clem Burke is fantastic on drums as usual.Great encores of "Atomic","The Tide Is High" and a cover of The Rolling Stones "Get Off Of My Cloud".Overall it was a good show but i have seen them better. They are more suited to indoor venues ... 27 July 2008.This was the UKs biggest polo event for 25,000 people at Windsor Great Park which was attended by Prince Charles.Try telling this upmarket lot there is a credit crunch going on. In the evening 7pm to 11.30pm was the legendary Chinawhite afterparty for 3,000 people. Most have paid 100 quid just for the party ticket.Quite a few have even flown in to be here the weekend. Mark Ronson is the guest dj and he does a superb job on the decks with a great choice of tunes and getting the place really rocking. The non stop lasers and confetti really helped. So many great looking girls here in their designer dresses and heels dancing on tables and chairs and really going for it.Got into the VIP area for a couple of hours.A few faces here inc actresses Kelly Brook and Lana Holloway. Also Dita Von Teese and ex Blue members Duncan James and Simon Webbe who go to lots of stuff.Biggest surprise was seeing author Salmon Rushdie here with his new girlfriend half his age.A bit surreal dancing next to him on the VIP viewing platform overlooking the stage as he was a bit worse for wear. Also worse for drink were Luke Blackall from The Londonpaper and The Evening Standards main showbiz snapper Dave Benett. Both of whom i see all the time but normally they pace it a bit but even they got carried away tonight. It really is one of THE best parties of the year.Put it in your diary for next year. Its always the last Saturday in July................. 26 July 2008.Kylie Minogue live at The 02 Arena, London. This was Kylies first of seven shows here and comes at the end of a 3 month 50 plus gigs European Tour.A very lavish show with rumours of it costing 10 million quid to put together. It was 2 hours 20 mins long with two sets of 60 mins and 80 mins.A mix of hits and material from her latest album "X".Kylie celebrated her 40th birthday in May and she recently got an OBE. I counted eight different costume changes inc cheerleader and beach party girl designed by John Paul Gaultier. The band stuck in the two corners as Kylie and her army of dancers took over the stage for dance routines. The massive sloped stage production was similiar to last years George Michael show.It looked fantastic. Her entrance was within a huge contraption.Setlist inc "Cant Get You Out Of My Head","In Your Eyes", "Shocked" a cover of Barry Manilows "Copacabana", "Spinning Around".For "Like A Drug" she was sat astride a huge skull and "Slow" was really good. Second set "Come Into My World" with a Chinese theme then a trio of songs that were great "On A Night Like This","Kids" and "Step Back In Time". Encores had gold streamers and balloons fall from the ceiling for "Love At First Sight" and "I Should Be So Lucky".As always Kylie live was great fun and a visual treat . 25 July 2008.Another busy day with two events. First at 4pm "Monkey - Journey To The West" at The Royal Opera House,London. This is the pop opera that is composed by Damon Albarn with design and animation from Jamie Hewlett. This was show number 4 of 7 sold out shows at this famous venue that holds 2400.The two hour set is visually great to look at with a 30 plus troupe of circus acts, dancers, martial arts and animation.Based on a 400 year old Chinese story and the 1970s cult tv show "Monkey".In Mandarin with subtitles. Some superb fight sequences and nice to watch with great costumes full of colour but it was hard going in parts and just an interesting event overall .... then 8pm Adele live at The Bush Hall,London. This was an invite only show for 250 comp winners and press for www.capitolradio.com 95.8FM.At the end of 2007 Duffy and Adele were the two new names tipped for great things.Duffy has won the album sales race with 2 million plus sold but Adele seems to be more in favour with the critics.Indeed only this week her album "19" got a Mercury Music Award shortlist nomination of the 12 albums most highly rated by the music biz.The 45 mins set focused on the album with best tracks "Hometown Glory" and "Chasing Pavements" and a cover of her idol Etta James "Fool That I Am".She has the background of coming from The BRITS School and that great voice.A good show and it will be intertesting how she gets on over the next few years......... 24 July 2008.A busy evening with two launch parties.First 7pm to 9pm for The New Football Pools Launch Party at The Haymarket Hotel, London.A very posh venue across the road from Phantom Of The Opera which has its parties around its swimming pool.Very nice. The footie pools were massive but since the lottery their players have gone down from 10 million to 700,000.So a major advertising campaign starts now. Quite a few faces here.Hosted by Gabby Logan with footie stars John Barnes,Alan Hansen,Tony Cascarino,Gordon Banks,Roger Hunt, Les Ferdinand and top referee Graham Poll. Also spotted from horse racing was Brough Scott and jockey Mick Fitzgerald.Free champers, cocktails and canopes here.We were joking someone might fall in the pool and one of the suits did.He wisely hauled himself out very quickly and sprinted to the gents.Good one....... then 9.15pm to midnight a short walk to The Blackberry Bold 9000 Smartphone Launch Party at One Piazza,Covent Garden,London.A massive party for 500 or 600 people. The venue is hot and humid as there are loads of huge plasma screens giving out heat a plenty.Loads of freebie cocktails and canopes all night. There is a silent disco room where all on the dancefloor get headphones but dance to their choice of music by switiching channels on their headsets. The Feeling play a 35 mins set of hits.I think it was seven songs. They are easlly the number one choice for private corporate events as i have seen them six times in the last six months. Its catchy harmless pop that everyone sings along to after a few drinks. Set inc "Fill My Little World","Never Be Lonely", a cover of The Bangles "Walk Like An Egyptian". Also "Sewn" and "Love It When You Call".Another good lively party ............ 23 July 2008.Launch party for The Mojo Bar, 159 High Road,South Woodford,Essex.Had a lovely day out on the borders of East London/Essex in Wanstead/Epping Forest area in the afternoon then 8pm the opening night of this trendy bar which used to be a basic pub.The free booze and tasty treats are flowing all night.DJs are spinning the tunes and its a very lively glam crowd. Great looking girls with most in designer outfits and heels. The owners plan to have live music with acts inc soul legend Alexander O'Neal lined up.A pukka venue ....... 20 July 2008.The Flaming Lips + Goldfrapp live at The Lovebox Weekender,Victoria Park,Hackney, London. This was day 2 of this big dance /indie based festival that gets 20,000 people each day. Lots of mad stuff going on in the afternoon on the smaller stages and the rave tent is hot, humid and rocking. Its a big gig for Goldfrapp and they play a brilliant 65 mins set.Its a ribbon theme all over the stage and even Alisons dress is made of ribbons. They get female dancers on and creatures dancing in weird outfits and a choir too.Lots of great tunes inc "You Never Know","Number 1","Happiness","Oh La La","Caravan Girl","Train" and "Strict Machine".Very good..... then The Flaming Lips who from start to finish again are just visually superb. The singer goes over the crowds heads in a giant balloon. There are lasers, guns that fire streamers, dry ice and 20 people in fancy dress outfits and thats all in the first song.A giant screen showing wacky fun clips.Lots of great songs in the 85 mins set inc "Free Radicals","Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots", brilliant versions of "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" "She Dont Use Jelly" and "Do You Realize?".Both bands perfect for this festival... ......... 19 July 2008.Chuck Berry + Chris Jagger live at The Hackney Empire,London.Nice to see Chris Jagger again as he was at my first ever music event in 1973.He was throwing out copies of his current single and i picked them up.I think they were trying to make him a pop star on the back of his brothers fame back then.Chris on guitar and a neat boogie woogie piano player warmed the crowd up well for 45 mins.Chuck Berry rock and roll legend back in London as part of his lengthy European Tour.I saw him a couple of months ago at The 100 Club.Hes 81 and in good nick but this famous old venue is one that is even older than he is.Starting with "Roll Over Beethoven" but the vocals were not loud enough probably due to minor things like Chuck not doing soundchecks i reckon.Soon sorted with loads of gems inc "School Day(Ring Ring Goes The Bell)","Sweet Little Sixteen","My Ding A Ling" with some funny changed lyrics and all the crowd singing. It was a family affair with his daughter helping out with vocals and his son in the band. His daughter sang with her bag/purse on her shoulder which looked odd. There were a couple of duckwalks too. Also "Little Queenie","Memphis Tennessee", "Reelin And Rockin" and "Johnny B Goode" where a dozen girls were invited on stage for a dance. As usual it was a strict 60 mins set with no encore and no doubt straight out of the building a couple of minutes after the show.Bearing in mind a lot of 81 year olds cannot walk let alone duckwalk lets give thanks this legend still plays live. ........ 18 July 2008.The Music live at Koko,London. This was one of the free gigs for comp winners for The Apple ITunes Festival at Koko that covers all of July. The Music have been off the radar for a couple of years but they are back with a new album "Strength In Numbers".The singer has got rid of his huge mop of hair for a shaved look.Always a good live band as their brand of dance rock always is lively. They played a full 85 mins set inc oldies "Take The Long Road And Walk It" and "People" mixed in with a few new tracks inc the album title track and new single "The Spike".Some songs sounded the same but they got the crowd going. The ITunes Festival has more free gigs in July inc The Pretenders at Koko on July 30 .............. 17 July 2008.Leonard Cohen live at The 02 Arena, London.First London show for some 15 years for this legendary Canadian singer songwriter and its a total sell out.I saw him at Hammersmith Odeon in the 1980s.David Gilmour of Pink Floyd is sitting near me..Leonard is now looking a bit frail at age 73 and recently had his former manager steal 5 million dollars off him.He plays for 2 hours 30 mins over two sets of 50 mins and 100 mins. His band are great as are the three female backing singers.Fine lyrics about sex, religion, death and depression but i dont think this venue suits his songs at all. After every song he takes his hat off, holds it to his chest and bows to the crowd like a true gent.Setlist inc "Hey,Thats No Way To Say Goodbye","Suzanne", "Sisters Of Mercy","The Gypsys Wife","Boogie Street" and yet another standing ovation for "Hallelujah" then "Democracy" and "I'm Your Man","A Thousand Kisses Deep" and "Take This Waltz" and more standing ovations.Encores inc a stunning version of " So Long Marianne" then "First We Take Manhattan","If It Be Your Will" and "Closing Time".Clearly one of those revered artists like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits.Very good. Leonard Cohen returns to the UK in November for a full arena tour inc 02 Arena on Nov 13........... 15 July 2008.Def Leppard + Whitesnake + Thunder live at The Echo Arena,Liverpool.Back again to see this excellent classic rock package.Black Stone Cherry were first band on in June but for July dates its Thunder who do a good set of 40 mins inc "Dirty Love" and "I Love You More Than Rock And Roll".This venue is new and has been open around 6 months which means Liverpool will get a lot of the big tours from now on as it holds about 10,000.We have great seats in the block nearest the stage on the left.Whitesnake play the same 85 mins set as last month.David Coverdale still looks and sounds great and really knows how to get the crowd going.Lots of gems inc "Fool For Your Loving","Is This Love","Here I Go Again" and "In The Still Of The Night"..... then Def Leppard who also played the same 85 mins set as last month.Lots of great rock tunes with that lovely loud distorted guitar sound inc "Rocket","Animal","Photograph","Pour Some Sugar On Me" and "Rock Of Ages".Encores inc a superb "Lets Get Rocked".Well worth the trip to see them all again as its such a great line up... .....Wed lunchtime spent a couple of hours at The Beatles Story which is a great year by year exhibition on The Beatles.Have seen it before but its always worth seeing again every couple of years and of course had to pop into The Cavern Club and A Hard Days Night Hotel............... 14 July 2008.6pm.The Hold Steady live at HMV, Oxford Street,London. This was a free gig to launch their 4th album in five years called "Stay Positive".They played about 8 songs in the 35 mins set inc the album title track and "Seqestered In Memphis" which both rocked. The NME love them even though all the members are aged over 35.Lots of uptempo tunes with catchy guitars and keyboards.I like them even though i cannot ever see them being massive...... then 7.30pm on to see Ted Nugent + The Quireboys live at The 02 Indigo,London.Nice to see The Quireboys again.Their singer still has that great rasping blues rock voice. They played "Hey You" which is a pukka track. For Ted Nugent i am second row from the stage and Ted does a superb 2 hour set.I have seen EVERY London show played by Ted Nugent in London since his 1970s heyday. He is a superb complete entertainer with fantastic stage banter and some of the greatest rock guitar riffs of all time.Just a 3 piece but they were supertight and it was pure Detroit Rock And Roll with a slice of funk blues.Setlist inc "Stormtrooping","Wango Tango","Snakeskin Cowboys","Dog Eat Dog","Free For All",Motor City Mad House" and stunning versions of "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Stranglehold".Encore of "Great White Buffalo" had Ted in full Red Indian headgear getting his hunting crossbow out and shooting his guitar.I even got one of Teds guitar picks too.A brilliant show ... 13 July 2008.Elton John And His Band live at Mercedes-Benz World,Brooklands,Surrey.Back again to see Eltons second show here and its another 15,000 capacity crowd.Missed the support as i was looking at their museum of old cars, planes and motorbikes. This race track opened in 1907 so over 100 years its been here. Its a nice sunny evening tonight.Elton comes on 30 mins earlier as its a Sunday. Its the same 2 hour 20 mins setlist. The first 30 mins has 3 or 4 lesser known songs but its basically greatest hits.Again the crowd were polite for the first half then they all got up and run down the front for the lively second half that is full of Elton classics. When he came out for the encores he again signed 50 autographs at front of stage before finishing again with "Pinball Wizard" and "Your Song". Elton again left the venue by helicopter some 15 mins after the end of his set.Elton is back for a UK and Europe arena tour in Nov/Dec.Check www.eltonjohn.com for full dates................. 12 July 2008.Pete Doherty live at The Royal Albert Hall,London. This was Petes biggest ever solo show and the one that was due to take place on April 26 but then Pete was put in prison.I am twice the age as most of the trendy kids in skinny jeans here. The stage is very sparse with just Pete and his guitar and a table. He plays two sets of 60 mins and 40 mins. From the start his loyal fans are singing their hearts out.Not sure it was a good idea to leave the floor seating in. Lots of good songs inc "Time For Heroes","Cant Stand Me Now","What Became Of The Likely Lads", then he had a bit of a scuffle with a fan who tried to get on stage and then "What A Waster". Second half started great as he laid a QPR footie shirt on the front stage monitor.(QPR are also the team i support).Great versions of "For Lovers" and "Beg Steal Or Borrow" and superb versions of "Fuck Forever" and "Albion".Pete came back for an encore but 200 fans invaded the stage and Pete had to leave the stage but the fans kept singing for another 10 mins.Pete at the RAH was really good ...... 11 July 2008.A full day with two great events.... 11am to 6pm Goodwood Festival Of Speed, Chichester,West Sussex.Lovely drive into this beaufiful area of the countryside for this classic cars and motorbike event.Had a nice lunch in Dunhill hospitality then a drinks reception with some famous names from racing inc Stirling Moss,John Surtees and Murray Walker. Also here was Pink Floyds Nick Mason complete with racing overalls on with a huge EMI logo on the back and Jay Kay from Jamiroquai .Saw lots of racing and it was a really nice outdoor event. On Sunday Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will be racing.Check www.goodwood.co.uk then an hours drive to see......Elton John And His Band at The Mercedes-Benz World,Brooklands,Surrey.A massive complex with a great display of new and classic cars and full size planes.About 15,000 people and for the first time this year after a few dry outdoor shows it rained quite heavy for the first half of Eltons 2 hour 20 mins set. Some people left so we nicked their seats down the front.Despite the rain Elton played a perfect set of hits inc "The Bitch Is Back","Goodbye Yellow Brick Road","Rocket Man","Honky Cat", a brilliant "Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me", "Candle in The Wind","Bennie And The Jets", "Philadelphia Freedom","I'm Still Standing", and superb versions of "Crocodile Rock" and "Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting" and the encores of "Pinball Wizard" and "Your Song" were stunning.A damp evening but a brilliant set by Elton who continues to gig non stop and has just completed his 200th show in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace ............... 10 July 2008.Soho House Summer Party At Chiswick House And Gardens,West London feat The Feeling + Hoosiers + Will Young + Sugababes + Goldfrapp + Sophie Ellis Bextor.5pm to 11pm.This was a lovely location where i used to ride my bike as a teenager. Most of the 4000 middle class folks here have paid 150 quid a ticket but that includes all booze and quality food including lobster, scottish beefburgers etc.All the bands played short sets of 20 mins to 40 mins so lots of hits here.Sophie Ellis Bextor was good with "Take Me Home","Groovejet(If This Aint Love), "Murder On The Dancefloor" then it was Goldfrapp who were very tame tonight.A semi acoustic set that had sound problems. They played "Ooh La La" and "Happiness" but they should have been better.....Sugababes better than Goldfrapp live is something i thought i would never say but they were.A full on uptempo set inc "Hole In The Head","Round Round","Freak Like Me" and a stunning version of "Push The Button" that started with 60 seconds of The Whos "Baba" intro. ....Will Young has a few loyal fans here.He has been quite recently but has a new album out soon. Not my cup of tea but the crowd like it.....then The Hoosiers who have a song called "Worried About Ray" and play a harmless set...The Feeling are quite rocky tonight as they are headliners. Some catchy tunes inc "Fill My Little World", "Never Be Lonely","Sewn","Join With Us" and "Love It When You Call".Sugababes were best tonight. The live music was a bit average overall but as an event it was a fantastic day out.............. Its been on the cards for a while but rumours of a Faces reunion stepped up a gear as Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood had a lunch meeting last week. Would be really amazing to see them play live. As Ronnie Lane died a while ago hopefully Sex Pistol Glen Matlock would get the bass job as The Faces were his fave band ..... 06 July 2008.Dolly Parton live at The 02 Arena, London. In the afternoon before this show i popped into the Miss Sixty/Elemis Music Lounge on the 10th Floor,Hilton Hotel,Park Lane which is being used by the bands and music biz folks at the nearby Wireless Festival. The cocktails and sushi are flowing.I get a lovely massage and a huge Elemis goodie bag.The bands also get some free clothes......then over to see country legend Dolly Parton on the last night of her month long European Tour. She plays two sets of 60 mins each. She is a tiny bundle of fun and between every song we get great stories about her life and career. She is one of 12 children.Lots of the crowd are dressed in checked shirts and cowboy hats.Set inc "Two Doors Down","Jolene" and the title track from her recent album "Backwoods Barbie".A neat cover of Fine Young Cannibals "She Drives Me Crazy" got the crowd up and dancing again and "Coat Of Many Colours" was great.Second half inc a lively cover of "Great Balls Of Fire" also "Little Sparrow","Here You Come Again","Islands In The Stream","9 To 5" and her song made popular by Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You". A really nice evening ........ 05 July 2008.Iron Maiden + Avenged Sevenfold live at Twickenham Stadium.A huge crowd of some 45,000 for Iron Maidens only UK show of their current world tour.Up first we catch the main support Avenged Sevenfold who do a decent set of fast guitars and screaming vocals. The younger metal fans down the front loved them.Iron Maiden go from strength to strength as they have now gone past the 100m albums sold mark. The stage production has an Egyptian theme and for nearly 2 hours we get a great show.I have seen them so many times over the last 25+ years but they always deliver.Setlist inc "Aces High","2 Minutes To Midnight","Revelations","The Trooper", "Wasted Years","The Number Of The Beast","Can I Play With Madness","Heaven Can Wait" where they were joined on stage for 100 comp winners then a brilliant "Run To The Hills" with all the stadium singing then "Fear Of The Dark" and for "Iron Maiden" we had a 25ft Eddie monster appear at the back. Its all very well rehearsed of course.Bruce Dickenson running all over the place and the 3 guitarists and bass player Steve Harris all pulling every Spinal Tap guitar pose cliche going but at least it makes them fun to watch. Encores inc "The Clairvoyant" with a 12ft Eddie monster on stage and more flames and fireworks and then "Hallowed Be Thy Name".A superb show.... ......... 04 July 2008.Morrissey + New York Dolls + Siouxsie live at 02 Wireless Festival,Hyde Park, London.Day 2 of this festival.Loads of bands on but only 3 that really interest me.On the second stage we check out punk legend Siouxsie. In a stunning silver and black catsuit she looks like Ace Frehley from Kiss.A brilliant 50 mins set of last album tracks and classic gems inc "Hong Kong Garden","Arabian Knights","Cish Cash", "Here Comes That Day","Christine","Happy House" and "Into A Swan".She spins, skips and high kicks. What a girl....New York Dolls are on the 3rd or 4th stage but headlining. We get a 45 mins set of recent album tracks and older gems. The guitar sound was a bit low in the mix but its still fab with tunes inc "Babylon","We're All In Love", "Looking For A Kiss","Dancing On The Lip Of A Volcano","Rainbow Street","Pills","Dance Like A Monkey","Trash" and "Pills".Great stuff......... Morrissey on the main stage starts well with first 30 mins of his 80 mins set inc "Last of The Famous International Playboys","First Of The Gang To Die","Irish Blood English Heart" and "Ask" then he starts rambling between songs and the material all gets a bit average in the outdoors.Later on he did a neat cover of The Buzzcocks track "You Say You Dont Love Me" and another Smiths classic "How Soon Is Now" but tonight i preferred the inside tent sets by Siouxsie and NY Dolls to Morrissey outdoors...... 03 July 2008.Duran Duran + Duke Spirit live at 02 Arena,London.Duke Spirit try their best in front of these Duran fans for a short 35 mins set.Their sexy blonde female singer is a stunner but the songs are a bit average.Duran Duran play a 2 hour set and as always are great live. They play 3 or 4 songs from last years album "Red Carpet Massacre" but its a mainly hits set inc "Hungry Like The Wolf","Planet Earth","Come Undone", "The Reflex","Save A Prayer","A View To A Kill", after an hour they changed outfits and moved Kraftwerk like to four synths in a line for some fine electro pop on "Last Chance On The Stairway","I Dont Want Your Love" and "Skin Trade" then back to full band for "Notorious" and a superb version of "Girls On Film " then "Ordinary World" and "Wild Boys" and a brilliant encore of "Rio".Plenty of women still screaming for Simon Le Bon and John Taylor.Great show.
