04 Nov 2011.Jim Davidson + Lloyd Hollett live at The Beck Theatre,Hayes,Middx.
On the outskirts of West London is this cosy all seated theatre.I first went here in 1993 for a double bill of Sister Sledge and Judge Dread.
Up first tonight we had Lloyd Hollett who did a 40 mins set.A bit rude,a bit corny but still good fun.
The crowd here is mainly older white working class.
Jim Davidson is now aged 57 and was massive in the 1970s and 1980s but his style of comedy has gone out of fashion and the tv stations will not touch him anymore.
Davidson has been well known for making offensive jokes about ethnic minorities, homosexuals and disabled people in his stand-up act, which has made him a subject of negative media coverage and frequent criticism. Some critics describe Davidson as "extraordinarily foul-mouthed, racist, and sexist" and a "throwback"; whilst Garry Bushell describing Davidson as a "family entertainer". In a Channel 4 poll of the 100 Worst Britons, Davidson came in at number 20.
His 80 mins set was a bit rude, crude and offensive as expected as everything and everyone was a game target.Overall i just thought Jim was really funny from start to finish.

November 09, 2011

08 Nov 2011.I went to three good events tonight.
6.45pm to 8pm i was at the launch for Tony "AP" McCoys book

Anthony Peter McCoy OBE (born 4 May 1974), commonly known as A. P. Lots of freebie champers, cocktails and canapes here at this posh tailors store.Tony McCoy held a Q n A session and signed his books that were for sale here.Guests here included current BBC presenter Clare Balding and the ex BBC presenter legend Sir Peter O'Sullivan who is now aged 93 having retired from BBC after 50 years service.Everyone got a decent goodie bag here. The book is out now on Orion Books. Then to

8.05pm to 9.35pm i attended a fashion show at Gucci,New Bond Street,London W1.Lots of freebie champers, cocktails and canapes here that were served by guys that all looked like David Beckham male model types. The girl models strutted around the store looking glam in luxury female items.Very expensive prices here as you would imagine.
They flew in some trades folks from Italy showing us how they cut and treated the leather, stitching, embossing etc.No celebs here but i got a couple of excellent goodie bags.Really nice little event. Then to

9.45pm to 10.30pm i went to the dvd launch of Brides Maids
at Merah,Wells Street,London W1.
This popular chick flick film will do well in the pre Christmas sales.Friends say it is very funny.I got there a bit late so just free beers flowing and cupcakes.A mainly girly crowd here as expected with lots on the dancefloor having a good boogie.Pretty lousy goodie bags here.

07 Nov 2011.I went to two good events tonight.
6.45pm to 8.15pm was the unveiling of the WMRT Championship Trophy at Garrard,Albemarle Street,London W1.
An upmarket crowd at this famous Swiss jewellers.Freebie Lanson champers,Snow Queen Vodka cocktails and canapes for all.Half a dozen faces here inc Sinitta, dancer Brendan Cole and designer Oswald Boateng. We had a couple of speeches then the unveiling of the beatiful trophy that was made by Garrard for this worldwide sailing series.
After the presentation Sophie Ellis Bextor and hubby Richard Jones were the djs.A good party.
See www.wmrt.com

then 8.45pm to 12.15am i was at the launch of "Call Of Duty-Modern Warfare 3" at Old Billingsgate,London EC3.
In terms of launch events it does not get bigger than this.A staggering 1300 invited guests, comp winners and media here for this very popular computer game.
There are searchlights as you enter the venue with folks in full combat outfits with guns and there are over 100 consoles inside the venue for gamers to play on.
Freebie spirits, beers and wines and food all night for all here.It was a proper big budget event.
We also get two big live dance acts.Chase And Status and Example.A few faces here inc Joey Barton from QPR.
I may be a bit bias but he is how a footballer should be.A tiger on the pitch and super nice off it.He said he went to see Noel Gallagher live last week and hopes to get to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kasabian.Other footballers here inc Ashley Cole(Chelsea) and Danny Simpson(Newcastle).
Also boxer David Haye,Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet,Katie Melua,Danny Wallace,Jack Whitehall,Tom from McFly,Dynamo,Calum Best,Goldie,dj Spoony and even Sophie Ellis Bextor and hubby arrived here from the earlier Garrard event. No doubt a few others.
At 10pm Example played a 40 mins set inc big hits "Stay Awake","Kickstarts" and "Changed The Way You Kiss Me".
At 11pm Chase And Status played for an hour.Like Example the last 12 months has been very good for them.Their set
inc "Let Me Go" and a spine tingling "Blind Faith".
At midnight the video screens flashed to stores across the country to show big queues had formed to be the first to get their hands on the game at midnight. For the midnight countdown we had fireworks and lasers in the venue.A great event.
The Call of Duty franchise has sold in excess of 100 million units worldwide.
Call of Duty is played online by gamers in over 144 countries around the world.

Call of Duty: Black Ops set a new five day entertainment opening record shattering theatrical box office, book and video game launch sales records surpassing $650 million (£400 million) worldwide upon its release on November 11th, 2010.
Call Of Duty-Modern Warfare 3 is in the shops now.

06 Nov 2011.George Michael "Symphonica" live at The Royal Opera House,Covent Garden,London.
This was a black tie charity gig for Elton John Aids Foundation in this stunning venue where seats ranged from £25 up in the gods to £2750 for best seats and a private dinner with George Michael after the show.
Lots of celebs here.Down the front was Elton John seated next to David Furnish,Janet Street Porter and David Walliams.Others here included Kylie Minogue,Rupert Everett,
James Corden,Michael McIntyre,Angus Deayton,Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters,Harvey Goldsmith,David Arnold and footballer Theo Walcott.
The show was 2 hours 20 mins long over two sets of 55 mins and 85 mins.A plush set with great use of images on the big screen and the 41 piece orchestra sounded excellent.
George Michael is still very much an "A list" artist. This current European Tour has around 50 shows including four at The Royal Albert Hall and three at Earls Court Arena.
The set was split with his own tracks and covers.A tad too many sombre covers for my liking. The first set included New Orders "True Faith" and Rufus Wainwrights "Going To A Town".His voice is still in fine form. The second half was better with "Patience" and covers of The Police "Roxanne" and Amy Winehouse "Love Is A Losing Game".Two of his songs "A Different Corner" and "Praying For Time" were superb. For the encores the crowd finally got up and danced along to "Amazing","Im Your Man" and "Freedom" which were great.Last song was Frank Ifields "I Remember You".
Overall very good but would have preferred more of his own
material rather than covers.

November 11, 2011

10 Nov 2011.Went to Ronnie Wood art preview then RHCP.
6.30pm to 7.30pm.Ronnie Wood "Faces,Time And Places"
preview at Symbolic Gallery,28 Cork Street,London W1.
Lots of Ronnies paintings and sketchings here along with some guitars and general memorabilia.Freebie champers flowing.Jessie Wood is here.Ronnie turned up to the other preview on Tuesday but i had to leave for the gig so not sure if he turned up after i left.On until Saturday. Then

Red Hot Chili Peppers live at The 02 Arena,London.
Last of RHCP three sold out pronto shows at this venue as part of their world tour to promote recent album "I'm With You" that got pretty average reviews when it came out.
The stage production is great with a big screen behind them and eight other screens that move and tilt during each song.On stage for nearly two hours of supertight funk rock.Flea(bass) and Chad Smith(drums) really get into a great body moving groove.I thought their new guitarist sounded and fitted in well.A sprinkling of new album songs and loads of older classics.Set included "Can't Stop", "Scar Tissue" and "Dani California" and superb versions of "Under The Bridge","Californication" and "By The Way".Encores started with a funky jam and ended with a funky jam.Songs in the middle of it included a brilliant "Give It Away".
The floor standing all going crazy.A great show.
RHCP come back to the UK in June 2012 to headline a couple of big outdoor shows.

09 Nov 2011.6.30pm to midnight.Classic Rock Awards at The Roundhouse,London.
An excellent gathering of 1970s rockers here and some new bands that Classic Rock magazine are tipping for greatness. An hour of freebie drinks then three course dinner for 550 seated guests and there is another 50 standing. Then at 9pm KISS legend Gene Simmons hosted the awards and was perfect. He was a natural really as he is such a good speaker.Free booze all night here. Those here tonight inc winners Vintage Trouble(Won Best New Band),Lemmy(Won Best Film/DVD),Roger Taylor and Brian May(Queen Won Best Reissue),Ian Anderson(Jethro Tull Won Spirit Of Prog),Michael Monroe(Won Best Album for "Sensory Overdrive"),Roger Daltrey And Pete Townshend(Won Classic Album for "Quadrophenia"),Deep Purple(Won Best Innovators),
Manic Street Preachers(Won Classic Songwriters),Scorpions(Won The Metal Guru Award),Bob Ezrin(Won Outstanding Contribution) and the main award went to Jeff Beck(Won Living Legend).Presenters and other guests here inc Rat Scabies,Glenn Hughes,Duff McKagan, all of Gene Simmons family,Joss Stone,Paul Cooks wife but not Paul himself,Ray McVeigh,Rival Sons,Steel Panther,Peter Frampton,Jerry Shirley,Luke Morley,Biff Byford,Roy Harper,Chrissie Hynde,
Randy Bachman,Snowy White and Tom Baker(super sharp Soho rock n roll clothing designer). Also some music biz folks here inc promoter Harvey Goldsmith, photographer Ross Halfin, writer Mick Wall, booking agents Rod MacSween,Steve Zapp and Steve Strange. We had a couple of live acts.Rival Sons did a three song acoustic blues set.At the end Jeff Beck played five songs. The tone of his instrumental guitar playing was just sublime. He did a cover of Lady Gaga" Bad Romance" which was really good.Joss Stone sung on "I Put A Spell On You" and Chrissie Hynde sang a great version of "I'll Stand By You".Winding down drinks and chatting for 30 mins after the awards.
I took about a dozen photos inc one with me and Gene Simmons.Goodie bags had some good stuff in and some crap stuff.Overall a totally excellent evening.

November 15, 2011

14 Nov 2011.Cake live at The Roundhouse,London.
Cake are well known in America but in the UK they are barely known but for the NME/XFM crowd who adore them.
Cake are an American alternative rock band from Sacramento, California. The band has been noted for McCrea's sarcastic lyrics and deadpan voice, DiFiore's trumpet parts, and their wide-ranging musical influences, including country music, Mariachi, rock, funk, Iranian folk music and hip-hop.
After creating its own label, Upbeat Records, the band released their sixth album "Showroom of Compassion" in 2011, which became its first album to debut at the top of the Billboard charts which was very impressive.
On stage for two hours over two sets of 60 mins. They started with some new album tracks including "Federal Funding",also oldies "Frank Sinatra" and "Rock n Roll Lifestyle".A fantastic version of new single "Sick Of You" had all the crowd singing along. Some great confident on stage banter from the singer. They gave out a 6ft apple tree to the first person that guessed what type of tree it was. They also played "Never There".Encores were a fantastic "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" with all the crowd singing along loudly and "The Distance".A good gig.

13 Nov 2011.Peter Frampton live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
Peter Frampton back in London just six months after his show i saw at Shepherds Bush Empire. This tour is to celebrate 35 years of his multi million selling live album "Frampton Comes Alive".I first saw Peter in 1974 as a support act then as a headline show in 1976 at Wembley Arena when the album really took off big.
Again it is a mammoth show as he was on stage for just under three hours over two sets.He looks a lot different to his long blonde hair days of the 1970s as now he is bald and grey. The first 1 hour 45 mins is "Frampton Comes Alive" which is fantastic melodic rock.Loads of great tracks including "Show Me The Way","Baby I Love Your Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do".Lots of great guitar playing by Peter and warm and friendly stage banter. Some nice 1970s images of him on the big screen behind the band.
The second set lasted 70 mins and started with some newer tracks that could not compete with the earlier "Frampton Comes Alive" material. He finished the show with a couple of good covers "Black Hole Sun(Soundgarden)" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps(Beatles)".Overall a great show.

12 Nov 2011.Motorhead + Anti Nowhere League + UK Subs live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
Motorhead are another rock band i have a lot of history with.I have seen them over 30 times since 1975 when they were the support to Blue Oyster Cult at this same venue.
As usual Motorhead play a Saturday night in London as part of their UK winter tour.A great atmosphere here as the tonight is a totally rammed sold out show.Motorhead always have decent support acts and tonight we have two punk bands from back in the day.The UK Subs play a 30 mins set.
Singer Charlie Harper is a like a punk version of Lemmy.
Their good set includes "Warhead" and "Stranglehold".
Up next is Anti Mowhere League who a play a 45 mins set.
They are ok but i prefer the UK Subs to them.
Rock legend Lemmy and Motorhead just seem to be getting more and more popular again.Lemmy has his trademark cowboy hat and cowboy boots on and the growl of a voice is still intact.
Motorheads wall of sound is just fantastic. They are promoting recent album "The World Is Ours" and play a few songs from it.Lots of older gems in the 85 mins set like "Bomber","Damage Case","Stay Clean","Metropolis" and a stunning "Killed By Death".Encores were an acoustic "Whorehouse Blues" and brilliant versions of "Ace Of Spades" and "Overkill" that had the front stalls floor area going crazy.Lemmy signs off with the declaration to the crowd "We Are Motorhead And We Play Rock n Roll".Too right they do.A great show.

11 Nov 2011.7.30pm to 11.30pm.
Tia Maria "Get Behind The Mask" party at Paramount,31st Floor,Centre Point,London WC1.Fantastic views up here across London and below us across the road is the giant hole that used to be The Astoria.Tia Maria is a very popular liquer brand. We are given masks to wear if we want. Some do some do not.A nice dressed up club crowd.
There is a fun photo booth that was very popular.
Maybe 300 folks are here.Lots of free booze all night.A choice of four different yummy Tia Maria cocktails, beers and wines along with hot and cold canapes. The dj keeps the atmosphere lively. We have the finalists on stage for the "Get Behind The Mask" 2012 advertising campaign for Tia Maria.A winner is chosen and she is very happy.
We have a five song 25 mins live set by Paloma Faith who has a lovely dress on and has plenty of cheeky banter.
Set included good tracks "Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?","New York" and "Upside Down".
Check out www.tiamaria.com
I must admit we really enjoyed this event.

November 18, 2011

17 Nov 2011.Another day with four events done.
11am to 3.30pm.Press conference and party for the updated version of Ronnie Biggs autobiography "Odd Man Out,The Last Straw" at Shoreditch House,London E16.
Ronnie Biggs and his son Michael attended.
The original book came out in 1994 but this updated version has around 200 extra pages. There are loads of tv crews and photographers here.Later on friends and family would arrive.Ronnie is wheeled in looking very frail. He cannot talk but understands you and answers back via a spellboard or hand gestures. His son Michael and Ronnies good friend Chris Pickard who helped him with the book are the ones that answer the press questions.
I asked Ronnie "did he enjoy recording with two members of The Sex Pistols back in 1978".He gave me a smile and a thumbs up which was quite touching.
After most of the press had left more friends and family turned up inc Nick Reynolds(son of Great Train Robber Bruce Reynolds) and Gaz Mayall.A nice lunch was laid on and the freebie wines and beers were flowing. The press chairs were taken away and it became more relaxed.Ronnie was cuddling any women here he could get his arms around.ITV host Fiona Phillips was very chatty with him as her own dad had similiar ill health.
We had some proper Hells Angels here from UK,Sweden and Brazil.Everyone got a free copy of the book and Ronnie signed loads of them.I got mine signed and got a couple of photos with him.I also got my "The Biggest Blow-A Punk Prayer" signed.Ronnie with Cook n Jones on that one.
Despite Ronnie being in a wheelchair and not being able to talk he clearly enjoyed himself. He was here for well over three hours which was pretty amazing.
Needless to say the book is a must buy.

6pm to 7pm was the store launch party for Ralph Lauren
"Double RL" at 16 Mount Street,London W1.
Lots of freebie cocktails and canapes here. The brand "Double RL" is quality clothes based on designs from the 1940s and 1950s era and some of the crowd have come dressed this way.Its looks great i must say.We had a swing jazz band too in the corner.A lovely goodie bag here.

7.15pm to 8.15pm was the launch party for menswear label Gant Rugger at 1 Flitcroft Street,London WC2.
A very trendy fashion crowd here.Lots of freebie champers and cocktails and canapes.Dj was spinning some good tunes.
Shame i had to leave here for the gig but rock n roll was calling me.

8.30pm.King Mob + Bermondsey Joyriders live at 229 Great Portland Street,London.
Seems ages since i have been here to this venue. They have done a very nice refurbishment and it really is a great place to see bands.
Up first we have Bermondsey Joyriders who play a full hour of good dirty blues rock n roll with lots of bottleneck guitar.Singer Gary Lammin has some really good lyrics.
This was the first ever London show by King Mob.
King Mob feature Sex Pistol bassist Glen Matlock and Pretenders drummer Martin Chambers.
Glen and Martin are joined by singer Stephen Parsons, and guitarists Chris Spedding(the legend that is) and Sixteen.
It is great to see these friends all on the same stage as they have known eachother for 35 odd years.
Their influences as wide ranging as Duke Ellington and Jimmy Page. They played tracks from their debut album "Force 9" that came out a month ago.It got a very positive 8 out 10 review in Classic Rock.
There is a definite “English” feel to the rhythm section, pounding drums and solid bass lines are overlaid with a Nasville Tennessee style guitar, couple this with Stephen’s vocals, and you end up with a band I don’t think you can pigeon hole. The only way I can describe them, is a beat-combo who kick ass with hints of rockabilly.
"China Waters" featured some great drumming from Martin Chambers and for "King Mob" Chris Spedding again unleashed some great guitar riffs.Encore was "Whos Chasing Who".
They were on for around an hour.A good gig.
Loads of people i knew here tonight.

16 Nov 2011.I went to four events today.
5.30pm to 6.30pm.Launch party for Kinect "Disneyland Adventures" XBOX 360 game at The Disney Store,Oxford Street,London W1.As expected lots of kids here but there is a free bar in the corner for adults. The kids are playing the game on the many consoles. We have clowns and magicians etc.Comedian Johnny Vegas is here as are a couple of girls from Loose Women tv show and TOWIE tv show.Nice goodie bag here of the game itself and some Disney stuff.

6.45pm to 7.45pm.Launch party for The Oris "Chet Baker" watch at Ronnie Scotts,London W1.Lots of freebie champers, different cocktails and nice hot food here.Singer Mica Paris is a guest. The Chet Baker Tribute Band play in the background.Limited edition watch that costs £1250.

A decent covers band got the crowd on the dancefloor.

15 Nov 2011.The Cure live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
This was a proper gig event for sure as The Cure play their only UK show as part of their London-New York-Los Angeles celebration called "Reflections".Loads of folks have turned up without tickets and the touts are doing a roarig trade.Loads of accents here from all over Europe.
They play a staggering 45 songs in a set lasting five mins short of three hours.Robert Smith is still loved by his loyal fans. They play their first three albums with short intervals then encores of hits and b-sides.First album was "Three Imaginary Boys" from 1979 as a three piece, then "Seventeen Seconds" from 1980 as a four piece, then "Faith" from 1981 as a five piece.
Some songs were better than others but loads of gems in there including a brilliant "A Forest" and some great hits in the encores which got the floor standing area dancing. There were plenty of strobe lighting but no screens. The Cure still doing things their way.

6.45pm to 8.15pm was the launch of party for Patrick Lichfields book "Perceptions" at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel,Knightsbridge,London SW1.
Patrick was one of the UKs top photographers in the 1960s,1970s,1980s.He sadly died in 2005.
On leaving the Army in 1962, he began to work as a photographer's assistant, and built up his own reputation, partly as a result of having access to the Royal Family. He was selected to take the official photographs of the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1981, and subsequently became one of the UK's best-known photographers. From 1999 onwards he was a pioneer of digital photography at a professional standard. He was chosen by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to take official pictures of her Golden Jubilee in 2002.
Over 200 of his upmarket friends are here including Nicky Haslam and Barry Humphries(Dame Edna).Lots of freebie Moet champers and yummy hot food here including duck in this very nice 5 star hotel.
Barry Humphries gave a very entertaining 10 mins speech on his own life as well as Patricks.

then Prince's Trust "Rock Gala" at The Royal Albert Hall,London SW7.Annual charity event where each act does two or three tracks and the headliner does a bit longer.
I get there three quarters through the first set so miss
Cerys Matthews,Alison Moyet and The Feeling.I manage to catch a rare couple of live songs by Julian Lennon. The
house band includes Midge Ure,Mark King and Nik Kershaw.
The second half starts with Robert Smith lookalike comedian Tim Minchin doing a couple then Boy George goes down well for his two songs "Everthing I Own" and "Do You Want To Hurt Me?".Then Chris De Burgh does a couple then Joss Stone looks and sounds great for her two. Then its headliner time. The band go off and its just Pete Townshend and his acoustic guitar for five tracks inc "Acid Queen","Drowned" and a mega "Wont Get Fooled Again".Pete was really good.Encore had all the artists (except Pete) on for a cover of David Bowies "Heroes".A good night.
See aftershow page for this gig.

19 Nov 2011.The Stylistics live at The Charter Hall,Colchester,Essex.
Fri,Sat,Sun,Mon i was in Colchester for a few days.
The hometown of Blur of course.
The 1970s were an amazing time to watch live music.
You could see the best of Glam Rock,Punk Rock and Classic Rock all in its heyday as well as the best American Soul like The Stylistics too.
The Stylistics were massive in that decade.I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon way back in 1974.
The venue tonight has maybe 700 or so folks here.
Its standing at the front and tiered seats at the rear.
The Stylistics still have two original members. They were well known for their soul ballads sung in falsetto.
They have matching stage clothes and the nifty little dance routines are still there.

26 Nov 2011.Rickie Lee Jones live at The Royal Festival Hall,London.
One of those American singer songwriters who had a lot of success 30 years ago but has been off the radar a bit.
The two hour show focused on her first two albums "Rickie Lee Jones"(1979) and "Pirates"(1981) that both went Top 5 in America. Now aged 57 she still has that hippy chick kind of vibe going on.A great band including a horn section mixing up jazz, blues, soul, country and rock.Good tracks included "Easy Money" her only UK hit "Chuck Es In Love",
"Company","A Lucky Guy" and "Texaco".
A couple of times Rickie got very emotional and broke down in tears as she remembers those early days when she had a heroin habit and she just seemed happy to have come out of it on the other side. The crowd gave her a full standing ovation at the end.A good gig.

25 Nov 2011.7pm to 9.30pm.I went to the Top Model 2012 "Parade Of Finalists" at The Shadow Lounge,Brewer Street,London W1.Freebie Pommery champers and sushi for all here.Around 30 girls in tshirts and shorts do a walkabout and pose for photos.Lots of the girls have turned up with their mums and seem very excited so could be their first venture into modelling. The final is held in London in March 2012.

24 Nov 2011.I went to two good events tonight.
7pm to 9pm was the launch party for Gary Anderson Menswear,34 Saville Row,London W1.
As expected a mainly male crowd in smart suits here.
Lots of freebie Moet champers and canapes here. They have brought in an Ice Bar to serve the drinks from.
A few faces here include the main guests the very loved up couple Alex Reid and Chantelle Houghton. Both them and their Team Spirit Media advisers were very friendly and chatty to all.Big plans for them two in 2012 i was told.
Also here was Lee from Steps.Their reunion tour now includes two shows at The 02 Arena.I also had a chat with 70s/80s man about town Philip Salon who is still suffering a bit after being attacked in the street a few months ago.A nice goodie bag here for all.
Gary Anderson bespoke tailoring feature quality suits.
Savile Row is the home of tailoring excellence and Gary Anderson brings cutting edge fashion and style to complement those traditional tailoring skills for which this unique street in central London is famous.
then
