March 12, 2012

11 March 2012.Emmy The Great + Amanda Applewood live at The Queen Elizabeth Hall,London.
Back again here for another show as part of "The Women Of The World Festival" at The Southbank Centre.I really love this venue.
Proper tiered cosy seating and the sound and views are perfect.I wish more bands would play here.
Up first is Amanda Applewood.A decent 30 mins of indie pop tunes.Yet another female in a long dress.Emmy The Great also wore a long dress.
The venue is a decent three quarters full and is pretty much Emmy The Greats biggest ever headline gig so it is a big deal for her.
The show lasted 85 mins.
There are twelve people backing her.Four band members, four female strings and four female backing vocalists.I only know her from a great Christmas themed album she did with Tim Wheeler of Ash a few months ago.Tonight she said most of the set was based on her second album "Virtue" that came out last year. There was some cute banter between songs.Everything ticked along nicely but nothing really grabbed. The best bits were when the string section and backing vocals kicked in at full tilt like with final song "Fade Into You" which is a Mazzy Star cover.

10 March 2012.Sinead O'Connor + Elizaveta live at The Queen Elizabeth Hall,London.
Another show as part of The Women Of The World Festival at The Southbank Centre so Sinead is a perfect choice. This show was at the cosy QEH that has just 900 plush seats.Totally sold out as Sinead should really be playing next door at the bigger RFH.
Up first we have Elizaveta. She said she hails from Russia.Classical piano with some pop opera vocals.Dressed in a lovely full length gown and sporting huge headwear. Her 40 mins set went down well.
What can you say about Sinead?.One of the most outspoken female artists out there.Opinions on the Roman Catholic Church and other things have marked her out as a bit of a nutter. She is now on her fourth marriage.
I first saw her in 1987 as a support act.
With a fantastic seven piece band who sounded great and well rehearsed as Sinead is on a world tour to promote her ninth album "How About I Be Me(And You Be You) that has got lots of good reviews.
The 1 hour 40 mins set was a total return to form.Sinead is barefoot from the start.
Versions of "The Emperors New Clothes" and new single "The Wolf Is Getting Married" were superb.
Sinead was in her element with an adoring loyal crowd that must make a change from all the haters she gets.Other gems were "Three Babies" and "4th And Vine".A brilliant version of her big hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" got a full standing ovation and the main set closer "The Last Day Of Our Acquaintance" was another gem.
Encores included "Jackie" and an emotional cover of John Grants "Queen Of Denmark".
Tonight Sinead was great.

09 March 2012.Annie Lennox + Emeli Sande + Katy B + Jess Mills live at The Royal Festival Hall,London.
This show was titled EQUALS LIVE.A call for Equality Around The World as part of The Women Of The World Festival.
Like last year Annie Lennox does a good job as hostess with introducing the artists and the speeches between acts but last year she sang eight songs and tonight she only played two.
The other female acts were all good.
Up first is Jess Mills who is signed to Island Records and is rated by the likes of NME.She sings five songs in 25 mins.Wearing a lovely flowing dress and with a great sound very in the Florence And The Machine mode.Good stuff.
Then it is Katy B whose album "On A Mission" got great reviews last year.Six songs in 30 mins including biggies "Katy On a Mission" and "Lights On".
Then Emeli Sande who i saw supporting Coldplay in Dec 2011 and her debut album hit the number one spot last month.A great seven songs in 35 mins including "Daddy",a cover of Coldplays "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall",also "Next To Me" and "Heaven".
A fantastic voice and the crowd loved her.
Finally was Annie Lennox. Her first song was a cover of Charles Aznavour "She" and then "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" which had the other three singers on the bill join her on stage. An evening of quality female acts.

08 March 2012.Jayhawks + Chuck Prophet live at The Barbican,London.
Up first was Chuck Prophet who when he was in his band in the 1990s Green On Red got critical acclaim but not big record sales. He played a good 40 mins set based on his 12th studio album "Temple Beautiful" and ended his set with a great version of "You Did".
During their heyday in the first half of the 1990s, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant folk-rock of the Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the hippiebilly soulfulness of the Flying Burrito Brothers and the soaring harmonies of the Beach Boys.
On stage for 95 mins for their first London show since 2001.They are promoting their 8th studio album "Mockingbird Time".Loads of great harmonies pretty much for every song.In fact some songs both the singers sung all the lyrics of all the song together.Chuck Prophet joined them for a couple of songs.Encores included
"Tampa To Tulsa" and "Waiting For The Sun".
A good gig.

07 March 2012.7pm to 9pm.I was at the launch party for Fifi Lapin at Juicy Couture,Bruton Street,London W1.
As expected mainly females here at this female designer store just a few yards from Stella McCartneys.Lots of nice freebie champers, cocktails and cupcakes for all here tonight.
Juicy Couture has joined up with Fifi Lapin, the world's most stylish "haress" on a fancy new capsule collection featuring all sorts of cottontail cuteness.Sketchbooks and greeting cards and silk scarves—particularly the bright red neckerchief covered in vignettes.
A nice goodie bag with one of the sketchbooks and a 30ml Juicy Couture fragrance.

06 March 2012.Minster Exchange, Mincing Lane, London EC3R 7PP. Nearest tube stations are

This cool bar and restaurant was so impressed by my review of their downstairs space relaunch a couple of weeks ago they invited me back for a complimentary meal for two which was very nice of them.
For me the 12 oz steak with peppercorn sauce was very tasty as was the spiced fishcakes and king prawns. They threw in some free drinks as well so a really nice evening.

Bumped into those nice folks from video clips website at Simple Minds.

Very sad to hear that guitarist Ronnie Montrose has passed away age 64 due to cancer.
The debut album by his band Montrose in 1973 is one of the greatest rock albums of all time
and featured a young Sammy Hagar on vocals.

02 March 2012.Simple Minds live at The Roundhouse,London.
Totally sold out show here for Simple Minds who are one of the most successful Scottish bands of all time with over 60 million album sales.
Another band i have a lot of history with as i have seen them over a dozen times since 1980 including a huge headline show at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1986 to some 50,000 fans.
This European tour was called "5x5" where they played five songs off their first five albums that came out in the period from 1979 to 1982.
Remastered versions have just been released.
This was before they hit their big success.
A great Friday night atmosphere here tonight.
On stage for 2 hours 15 mins over two sets of 60 mins and 75 mins. The hardcore Simple Minds fans like this period over the more commercial period that came after these albums.Good tracks played included "I Travel","Life In A Day","Love Song",
"The American","Promised You A Miracle","Someone Somewhere In Summertime".Encores started with the fab instrumental "Theme From Great Cities",
then "Chelsea Girl","Glittering Prize" and "New Gold Dream".Singer Jim Kerr getting everyone to easily sing loudly along with hands aloft.
A really good show.
Some of their biggest hits were not played as they were not on the first five albums.
"Dont You Forget About Me" was a movie soundtrack single and not on any studio album and "Waterfront" and "Aive And Kicking" were both on later albums.Simple Minds have released 16 studio albums in the 30 plus years career.

March 01, 2012

29 Feb 2012.The NME Awards at Brixton Academy,London.
Featuring live sets by Noel Gallagher, Pulp,Kasabian,Vaccines,Florence And The Machine,The Horrors and Maccabees.
Annual awards bash for this weekly music mag.
Always a good bunch of current and up and coming indie artists here.
Downstairs are artists and music biz folks and press. Some 650 seated along with 350 standing and around 1000 paying ticket holders upstairs.Free booze all night for us downstairs.
Live acts we get a couple of tunes from Kasabian, then a track from Florence And The Machine, then The Horrors play their superb track "Still Life",then Pulp play a couple(they got Outstanding Contribution Award),then the Vaccines played a couple, then Maccabees played a track but the main act was Noel Gallagher at the end(he won The Godlike Genius Award)who played a seven song 35 mins set including "If I Had A Gun","AKA...What A Life" and the crowd perked up for Oasis gems "Half The World Away" and "Dont Look Back In Anger".A good set but not a patch on The Foo Fighters storming set last year.
Other acts/folks here i saw or were on the seating plan were Kaiser Chiefs,Johnny Marr,Noel Fielding,Feargal Sharkey,Enemy,Alexa Chung,Katy B,actors from Fresh Meat tv series,Tinchy Stryder,Wretch 32,Tim Minchin,Michael Eavis,Sir Peter Blake,Stooshe,Anna Calvi,Carl Barat, Santogold,Ladyhawke,Nick Grimshaw,Drums, Spector,Friendly Fires,Bez,Tribes,Howler,Hurts,Two Door Cinema Club,Pixie Geldof,Nat Weller,

15 awards given out.Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys won awards but were not here.A bit of mingling afterwards for an hour or so in the venue.A good event as usual.
See for full winners list etc.

Very sad news about the death of The Monkees lead singer Davy Jones aged 66.He had a heart attack in Florida. He always looked so youthful and healthy.I watched their fantastic tv series all the time in the 1970s.I was at The Monkees reunion show at The Royal Albert Hall in May 2011 which was their ever last London show.

28 Feb 2012.Randy Newman live at The Royal Festival Hall,London.
Totally sold out show for a rare visit from Randy Newman.Only British dates are London and Dublin on his European tour.On stage for two hours over two sets of 55 mins and 65 mins.Lots of clever witty lyrics and nice stage banter between songs.
An older crowd here as he was mainly popular in the 1970s.
Lots of good tracks played including "Its Money That I Love","Short People","You've Got A Friend In Me","You Can Leave Your Hat On","I'm Dead But I Dont Know It","Political Science","Louisiana 1927","Rednecks","I Love L.A" and "Sail Away".Just Randy and his piano and a distinctive voice.A good show.
Now aged 68 Randy Newman is an American singer-songwriter,arranger, composer, and pianist who is known for his often satirical pop songs and for film scores.
The 1972 song "Sail Away" is written as a slave trader's sales pitch to attract slaves, while the narrator of "Political Science" is a U.S. nationalist who complains of worldwide ingratitude toward America and proposes a brutally ironic final solution. One of his biggest hits, "Short People" was written from the perspective of "a lunatic" who hates short people. Since the 1980s, Newman has worked mostly as a film composer. His film scores include Ragtime, Awakenings, The Natural, Leatherheads, James and the Giant Peach, Meet the Parents, Cold Turkey, Seabiscuit and The Princess and the Frog. He has scored six Disney-Pixar films: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Cars and most recently Toy Story 3.
Newman has been nominated for twenty Academy Awards, winning twice. He has also won three Emmys, five Grammy Awards, and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy.Newman was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2007, Newman was inducted as a Disney Legend.

All four original members of Status Quo have been jamming together In London
as part of the filming for their 50th anniversary documentary film due out in October.
Guns And Roses play The 02 Arena on 31 May 2012 as part of a UK tour.

24 Feb 2012.Rammstein + Deathstars live at The 02 Arena,London.
A totally rammed sold out show here for German industrial rockers Rammstein.
Up first are Deathstars from Sweden playing some industrial goth metal.
Tracks like "Metal" and "Tongues" went down well with this crowd.
Rammstein are one of the best live bands out there.
I have seen them before at Brixton Academy and Wembley Arena and they just get more and more
popular although you will rarely hear them on radio or tv.
Pretty much all the lyrics are in German so always amazing to see an English crowd singing along to them.
Rammstein use fire and pyros as much as possible during the show .Nobody uses as much fire as this lot.
Facial contraptions that spurted fire and lots more.
The 2 hours 5 mins show was brilliant.Their entrance was amazing as they came from the middle of the
arena holding a flame and the walkway was then lowered as they made their way to the main stage from
the mixing desk area.
Great songs played included "Rammstein","Feuer Frei","Du Hast" and "Engel"
After an hour their nerdy keyboard player surfed the floor standing area in a dinghy.
There was three or four songs from the mini second stage with the first one having a great S + M theme.
Emcores included "Amerika","Ich Will" and final song "Pussy" with the singer sat astride a giant penis canon that fired foam over the folks down the front. So many visually "wow" elements tonight to this show.Superb.
Rammstein do not use any big screens.
I saw Skin from Skunk Anansie here.
Check Rammstein out on youtube and then buy one of their live dvds.

23 Feb 2012.Kaiser Chiefs + Frankie And The Heartstrings live at The Hammersmith Apollo,London.
This was the last night for K.C. month long UK tour to promote the recent album "The Future Is Medieval".Up first we have Frankie And The Heartstrings who play a decent 30 mins of indie guitar tunes.
A great atmosphere for K.C 85 mins set as the floor standing is bouncing for the entire show.A blaze of lights and strobes here as the band whizz through loads of brilliant indie pop gems.Singer Ricky Wilson is full of energy as he runs all over the stage, into the pit to meet the fans, climbs on top of the pa at each side of the stage and even sings one song from the front row of the circle.
Tracks played included "Everyday I Love You Less And Less","Never Miss A Beat","Everything Is Average Nowadays",a few songs from the new album,"Modern Way",a superb "Ruby",also "The Angry Mob","Na Na Na Na Naa" and a mental "I Predict A Riot" then encores of "Loves Not A Competition(But I'm Winning) and a great "Oh My God" to finish what was an excellent show.
The band have been a bit quiet the last couple of years but there is still plenty of life in them.

22 Feb 2012.7.15pm to 11pm.Cast live at The Hard Rock Cafe,London W1.
Invite only gig for 200 comp winners and press for Absolute Radio.Always good to be up close to name bands just feet from the stage.
Freebie cocktails here for an hour then freebie Jack Daniels, beers and wines flowing all night for all here along with Hard Rock Cafe food.
Emerging from the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s, Liverpool band Cast signed to Polydor Records and their debut album All Change (1995) was a massive selling album for the label. Further commercial success continued with the albums Mother Nature Calls (1997) and Magic Hour (1999), however the band's fourth album Beetroot (2001) was far less successful which led to the band's split soon after. Cast reunited for a UK tour in November 2010.
They have more hits than you remember. The 55 mins set ticked along nicely and the band treated it like a proper gig. They have their fifth album "Troubled Times" out on 05th March and they played a few tracks from it including the new single "Time Bomb".They played a bunch of really good Top 20 hit oldies including
"Finetime","Sandstorm","Walkaway","Free Me" and "Alright".A good show.
Cast will play a full UK tour to promote the new album that includes Shepherds Bush Empire on 06 April 2012.

21 Feb 2012.The BRIT Awards live at The 02 Arena,London.
A great atmosphere here tonight for the UKs biggest music awards.Hosted by James Corden.
Most of the acts put on massive productions apart from Ed Sheeran who keeps it simple. The roadies did a brilliant job of setting up each act so quickly. We had eight acts play a song each who were Coldplay,Florence And The Machine,Olly Murs,Ed Sheeran,Noel Gallagher,Adele,Bruno Mars,Rihanna and Blur finished with five gems "Girls And Boys","Song 2","Parklife"(with Phil Daniels),"Tender"(with choir) and "This Is A Low".We had video tributes to Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse. All the winners turned up apart from Foo Fighters.
Others here presenting or hanging out included George Michael,Kylie Minogue,Nicole Scherzinger,
Jenson Button,Boy George,Paloma Faith,Elbow,
Tinie Tempah,Katie Melua,Pixie Lott,Huey Morgan,
Jessie J,Brian May,Roger Taylor,Plan B,Rob Brydon,Alan Carr,,James Morrison,Professor Green,JLS,The Wanted,Jo Whiley and no doubt a few more.

Paul McCartney to play The Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 29 March 2012.
I keep hearing rumours U2 are to play Hyde Park.
KISS are to play The Sonisphere Festival,
Knebworth on Friday 06 July 2012.They said it will be their only European show of 2012.
I have been told that Kasabian are soon to announce a big headline show in Hyde Park.
Adeles "21" album has now sold over 19 million copies worldwide and is expected to hit the 20 million sales mark in the next month or two.

20 Feb 2012.7pm to 9.30pm.Orion Books 20th Anniversary Party at The Natural History Museum,London SW7.
Around 500 author types here at this stunning venue that looks amazing with lights and flames all over the entrance.Nice freebie champers and canapes for all. Some faces here including Julian Fellowes,Danny Baker and the two chefs from The Hairy Bikers tv show.A good event.

19 Feb 2012.Nicole Scherzinger + Mindless Behaviour live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
Up first are boy band Mindless Behaviour who get an amazing reception as they are quite popular in America. These were the four teenagers chosen from 600 hopefuls at the auditions a couple of years ago.Frenzied screaming here as the crowd have all turned up early to see them.Think a younger JLS.Five songs from their debut album in the 25 mins set.Lots of energetic dancing.
They will no doubt headline this venue soon.
Nicole S was the singer of Pussycat Dolls.I saw them at The 02 Arena in Jan 2009 when the support was an up and coming act called Lady Gaga.Whatever happened to her?
This was the London show of her first solo tour to promote the "Killer Love" album. As expected the 85 mins set was most of that album and a few Pussycat Dolls hits.
She is a stunning looking girl. With hair most girls would die for she tossed it and stood in front of the wind machine showing it off as often as she could.Around a dozen raunchy costume changes by Nicole.Four female dancers too.Nicole is a great dancer.Tracks played included "Poison","Killer Love" then some slower ones as Nicole sat on a stool then "I Hate This Part","Stick With You" and "When I Grow Up".Her single "Wet" and "Right There" were two more goodies and the show finished with two big tracks the monster hit by Pussycat Dolls "Dont Cha" and her own UK number one hit "Dont Hold Your Breathe".
A good visually entertaining show. That F1 driver Lewis Hamilton is a lucky chap.

March 22, 2012

21 March 2012.8pm.QPR 3 Liverpool 2.
Before this game QPR had a nightmare past few months that has left them near the bottom.
Their last 10 games coming up include playing top teams Liverpool, Spurs,Man Utd,Arsenal,Chelsea and Man City.
A great sold out evening atmosphere here under the floodlights.
The first 75 mins was all Liverpool who took a two goal lead.
An incredible comeback by QPR who scored three times in the last 15 mins.
This easily could be one of those season changing games. Amazing.

21 March 2012.Guns And Roses have confirmed a second London show at The 02 Arena on June 1.The support for their UK arena tour will be Thin Lizzy.

20 March 2012.Sting live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
Second of three sold out shows at this venue as part of his massive "Back To Bass" European Tour to celebrate his 25 years as a solo artist.Having said that he also played half a dozen old Police hits in the 2 hours 5 mins set.
It is a simple stage show with just white lighting and Sting and the band all in t shirts and jeans. The sound is superb and Stings right hand man Dominic Miller really is one of the coolest guitar players around.Tracks played included "All This Time","Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic","Seven Days","I'm So Happy I Cant Stop Crying","Fortress Around Your Heart" and "Fields Of Gold".The second half of the main set dipped a bit in quality but the brilliant encores of "Desert Rose","Every Breath You Take","Next To You" and "Message In A Bottle" got all the crowd up and dancing.
Overall a very good show.

19 March 2012.Lighthouse Gala Auction at Christies,King Street,London SW1.
I have been to this event a couple of times before and it is always very good.It is a charity auction to raise funds for The Terence Higgins Trust.
About 500 folks here including Tracey Emin,Nancy Dell'Olio and Janet Street Porter.Lots of freebie champers, cocktails and nice food going all evening.
There were 33 auction items including lunch and a black cab ride around London with Janet Street Porter that went for over £1000 and a fishing trip on the Brighton coast with Dermot O'Leary.A good event.
Got some goodie bags with posh chocs from of Soho.

19 March 2012.Another nice three band package tour has been announced by promoters Live Nation featuring The Cult + Mission + Killing Joke. They play Wembley Arena on Saturday 16 Sept 2012 after shows at other UK arenas.
One of the greatest singles of all time The Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK" gets a special release for Record Store Day on 21 April 2012.
Just 3500 copies on picture disc.

18 March 2012.Paul Weller live at The Roundhouse,London.
This was the first of Paul's five nights here to launch his 11th studio album "Sonik Kicks".
Paul arrives on stage in a very smart three piece suit with a pristine white shirt and sky blue tie looking very business like.
On stage for two hours. The first 50 mins was the new album and the latter 70 mins was some older material. The band was joined by a string section.
The album only comes out the day after tonight's gig so most are only familiar with the great single "That Dangerous Age".Also good were "By The Waters","When Your Gardens Overgrown","Around The Lake" and "Paperchase".
A really good mix of different music styles.
Like Robert Plant with Led Zep you have to admire Paul's dislike of nostalgia and refusal to reform The Jam for just money.More interested in looking ahead and making bolder and braver music to satisfy his soul.
Paul changed into a black t shirt for the second half.Nice to hear The Jams "English Rose" then others like "From The Floorboards Up","Stanley Road","The Changingman","Wake Up The Nation" and "Fast Car/Slow Traffic".
Now aged 53 Paul Weller shows no sign of slowing down or not supplying the goods.

17 March 2012.Elvis Presley In Concert live at Wembley Arena,London.
I went to this tribute show two years ago at the same venue so i knew to expect a good night.
On stage for 1 hour 55 mins over over two sets.
This quality production reunites former Elvis band mates on stage with a state of the art video-projected Elvis.
In his lifetime Elvis only concerts outside the United States were five shows in three Canadian cities in 1957.He never played in Europe.
The show's concept is to present an authentic as possible Elvis Presley concert. The producers edited together a collection of Elvis finest concert performances that exist on film and video and removed virtually all sound from the footage except for Elvis vocal. The Elvis footage is projected on a large video screen. On stage a 16 piece orchestra and some of Elvis original bandmates from the concert era of his career and other cast members perform live with the Elvis video. They include James Burton on guitar and Norbert Putnam on bass. All music heard in the concert production is performed live except for Elvis voice. On either side of the Elvis performance big screen are smaller screens that carry live action from the stage.
Over 25 people on stage. The venue is a pretty impressive three quarters full up which just proves how loved Elvis Presley was.
All the hits and stage faves were played with my highlights "Hound Dog","Love Me Tender","The Wonder Of You","Suspicious Minds" and "Cant Help Falling In Love".
Amazing how much full on lips snogging Elvis did with female fans at the front of stage.
An enjoyable evening finished with those legendary words.....Elvis Has Left The Building.

16 March 2012.Public Image Ltd + Gruff Rhys + Graham Coxon + Anna Calvi live at The Queen Elizabeth Hall,London.
Really looking forward to this event as its punk legend John Lydons PIL first gig of the year and PIL have promised to debut their new track "One Drop" for the first time.It is PIL first new material in 20 years.
This event was to celebrate BBC 6 Music digital radio station 10th birthday. The BBC wanted to close it due to cutbacks a couple of years ago but the 100,000 plus public petition and support from well known musicians made them change their mind.A radio station that supports "real music".
There is a real buzz here as there are gigs on at QEH and Purcell Room and djs from the station like Huey Morgan,Don Letts and Craig Charles are spinning discs in the foyer.
Up first is Anna Calvi whose self titled debut album got great reviews last year. Her 25 mins was full of mean Fender guitar playing.
Then it is Blur guitarist Graham Coxon who plays a 40 mins set of uptempo indie guitar tunes including an excellent "Freakin' Out".
Then it was Gruff Rhys the ex singer of Super Furry Animals for a 45 mins set of more mellow indie tunes. For one song he was joined by ex Catatonia singer and BBC 6 Music presenter Cerys Matthews.
Then it is headliners PIL and the crowd get fully animated for their 55 mins set of eight songs.Opening up with a brand new track "Deeper Water" then a bunch of classics with "This Is Not A Love Song","Disappointed","Warrior",
"Albatross","Flowers Of Romance" and another brand new track "One Drop" that was put online recently and comes out on vinyl on Record Store Store Day which this year falls on 21 April 2012.Final song was a brilliant version of "Rise" with the crowd all dancing.
John Lydon on top form and band sounded great.
So we got six older gems and two really good brand new tracks tonight. An excellent evening.
PIL will be out and about a lot the coming month or so with another gig in London this week along with a John Lydon Q n A session with an audience for the BBC and no doubt loads more to be added.
You can see highlights of the QEH gig on BBC tv Red Button on Monday. Also check out

15 March 2012.3 Doors Down + Seether live at Hammersmith Apollo,London.
Dont know much about these two bands apart from that the Kerrang rock crowd like them and headliners 3 Doors Down are massive in their American homeland and have sold a staggering 20 million of their five studio albums.
Up first are post grunge rockers Seether who have had some decent success over the last decade. They do sound very Nirvana in parts.
The crowd knew a lot of their songs and their 45 mins set went down well.
Last night of 3 Doors Down UK tour as part of the world tour to promote their recent album.
The crowd are well up for their 90 mins set.A nice stage production with loads of lights and a giant screen showing live stage action and images.Tracks played included "Time Of My Life","Loser" and "Its Not My Time".In the middle of the set we had a marriage proposal on stage as two fans did the deed.Thankfully she said "Yes".The drummer was great and loads of times he would stand up and whack the cymbals in time with the guitar riffs.
Encores were a cover of Phil Collins "Another Day In Paradise","Kryptonite" and "Believer".
The crowd loved it.A good show.

14 March 2012.ELO Experience live at The Beck Theatre,Hayes,Middlesex.
First time i have seen this tribute act who are based on Electric Light Orchestra who were totally massive in the late 1970s.
ELO had over 20 Top 40 hits back in the day.
I saw the originals at Wembley Arena in 1978 when they had a massive spaceship production.
Part of an eight night run there at Wembley Arena and the dvd of it is available.
A two show tonight over two sets of 60 mins.
As expected its an older crowd here tonight.
The singer looks like Jeff Lynne and the bands clothes are dodgy late 70s style.Seven on stage including a keyboard and two cello.
Hits played included "Evil Woman","Telephone Line","The Diary Of Horace Wimp","Strange Magic",
"Xanadu","Wild West Hero","Confusion","Living Thing","Sweet Talking Woman","Turn To Stone","Hold On Tight","Dont Bring Me Down" and the encore was of course "Mr Blue Sky".
An enjoyable show. The band are on a massive UK tour so check out

Slash plays Hammersmith Apollo 06 June 2012.
Ronnie Wood And Friends play Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday 30 June 2012.

13 March 2012.7.45pm to 10pm i was at the launch of Meursault,36 Gloucester Road,London SW7.
This venue already has a restaurant and small bar upstairs but this was to launch their new basement bar.Freebie champers, cocktails and canapes for all.Dj playing tunes.
The venue is five mins from Gloucester Road tube station and five mins the other way to The Royal Albert Hall.
It pretty much looked like any basement bar with no real outstanding features.
It is open to 2am and i reckon it will suit the locals for a late night drink and dance but i doubt anyone would make a special effort to go there.
