22 Dec 2013..Here is a very funny Sex Pistols related video clip.
ITS KEVIN (BBC2) Amish Sex Pistols---Bill Grundy Interview 2013Click here to play the video.
The original Sex Pistols Bill Grundy interview from Dec 1976Click here to play the video.
This interview made the front page of most of the papers but the band ended up being banned from playing anywhere in the UK and most of the shows on the planned 'Anarchy' tour after were cancelled.
For the next year until they split up it was pretty much all small secret gigs that were only advertised locally.
The band were offered to play big venues including Wembley Arena by promoters but the council officials would not allow it.

20 Dec 2013....7.30pm to 10.45pm....
Press review of Cafe Football,Westfield Shopping Centre,Stratford,East London.
Manchester United players Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville have opened a new football-themed restaurant together in London.
The dazzling Welsh winger and former fullback attended their new venture last week, Cafe Football, in Westfield Stratford City, is a 140-seat restaurant and bar aiming to bring an authentic football culture to the dinner table, with a number of football themed dishes.
The menu has been created by Michael Wignall, the two-Michelin star chef, and Cafe Football’s executive chef Brendan Fyldes and includes a Starting Eleven Platter for 'The Kick Off', Nev's Noodle Pot for the terrace and a host of fans' favourites including Karen Brady's Match-Day Classic, pie and mash.
The drinks menu features more than 20 wines from ten different countries, together with a range of hand-selected international craft beers and includes a Red Devils cocktail.
The venue is full of television screens and there is a display of football boots etc.
We had a nice complimentary three course meal and drinks here.
Our waitress Liz? with the great Marc Bolan corkscrew hair was the best
waitress attending me this year with her bubbly friendly manner.
Well worth a visit if you are out that way. Cafe Football website here.

18 Dec 2013.Starz + Leaf Hound live at The Garage,London.
Even jaded old me is mega excited about this gig
Tonight was a great bill of two rock acts from the 1970s who should have been a lot bigger than they were.
Up first we have UK stoner blues rockers
Leaf Hound who are on for around 45 mins.
They still have Peter French on vocals who looks really great for his age.
They released an album 'Growers of Mushroom' in 1971 on Decca Records which is worth a small fortune if you have it on vinyl and reformed a few years ago to release 'Unleashed' in 2007.
A really good set that went down well.
Am i looking forward to Starz or what?
American rockers Starz play the UK for the first time ever.I bought their first two albums (Starz in 1976 and Violation in 1977) when they came out as they were managed by Bill Aucoin who looked after KISS.
Three original members still in the band on vocals, lead guitar and drums.
Kiss manager Bill Aucoin helped them to get signed to Capitol Records in early 1976.
Their major American hit single "Cherry Baby" in the spring of 1977 came from the album 'Violation', produced by Jack Douglas of Aerosmith fame. Jack Douglas produced their first two albums 'Starz' and 'Violation'.
Starz play a fantastic 95 mins set.
Michael Lee Smith on vocals has put on a few pounds but is a great front man.Richie Ranno on lead guitar was brilliant and drummer Joe. X. Dube really held things together.
We have a surprise that the other two guys on stage are UK based and one is Ginger Wildheart on bass. The other is Alex Kane. Both do a superb job bearing in mind they had just a couple of rehearsals. The first few songs are mainly from their cracking debut album and i am in heaven and it sounds just perfect.Even better when you are just a few feet away from them in this great venue to see a band.
I think Starz are surprised at how much love there is in the house for them tonight.
Folks have come from all over the UK to be here.
Lets hope now they have tested the water they can come back every year.
Rock photographer Ross Halfin was here as was Dave Ling from Classic Rock Mag so hopefully they can get the word out on Starz.
A totally great gig.

18 Dec 2013.Keith Richards, happy birthday to you. The Rolling Stones rhythm guitarist is celebrating his 70th birthday today, (December 18). Richards is the last of the founding Stones members to turn 70. Bill Wyman is now 77, Charlie Watts is 72, Mick Jagger is 70 and Brian Jones would have been 71 this year.
18 Dec 2013.Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been sentenced to 35 years for child sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby.
I saw them play a couple of times including a headline show at Wembley Arena.
18 Dec 2013....Ronnie Biggs has died....
Infamous English criminal Ronnie Biggs, famous for his role in the Great Train Robbery in 1963, has died aged 84.
Biggs, who spent 35 years on the run, won notoriety and some popularity for his ingenuity in evading capture and for cheekily thumbing his nose at the law from sun-soaked beaches.
The infamous Great Train Robbery saw a 15-strong gang hold up a Glasgow to London mail train and make off with 2.6 million pounds, a huge sum at the time,(in todays money worth around 50 million) at a railway bridge north of London.
The celebrity fugitive played a minor role in the hold-up but was jailed for 30 years in 1964.
After 15 months, he escaped by scaling a prison wall and leaping on to the roof of a furniture van.
His three decades on the run took him to France, Spain and Australia before he settled in Brazil where he flaunted his freedom by frequently being pictured in British newspapers partying.
Biggs returned to the United Kingdom in 2001 to seek medical treatment and was arrested and jailed.
He was released from prison in 2009 on compassionate grounds after suffering pneumonia from which he was not expected to recover.
Biggs had suffered a series of strokes in recent years and was, at the time of his death, being cared for in a home in north London.
When the Sex Pistols split up in 1978 Steve Jones and Paul Cook went to Rio,Brazil and recorded the Top 10 hit single 'The Biggest Blow-A Punk Prayer' with Ronnie Biggs on vocals.
In Nov 2011 i went over to East London for the launch party for Ronnie Biggs autobiography. He was very frail in a wheelchair but i got some nice photos with him and he signed my copy of the book.
He was able to say things using word boards.I showed him the 12 inch cover of the single he made with Cook n Jones and he thought i was one of The Sex Pistols.

16 Dec 2013.Roy Wood Rock And Roll Band feat The Proclaimers + Jasper Carrot live at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Roy Wood and his band Wizzard were the first proper live show i ever went to way back in Sept 1973 so it is right and fitting i travel up to Birmingham to see this 67 year old Brummie legend who gave me the gigging buzz.
Tonight the 2200 all seated venue is sold out.It is three times the size of his London show a week ago.
The venue is very nice like Birminghams answer to The Royal Festival Hall.
A mainly older crowd here who were around for Wizzard in the 70s and some were around for The Move in the 60s no doubt.
This is a hometown show for Roy Wood to celebrate his 40th anniversary of the classic 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'.
The song was famously beaten to the 1973 Christmas number one spot by Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody'.
Up first we had Brummie comedy legend Jasper Carrot play a rare 15 mins of funny material.
Roy played a 80 mins greatest hits set of gems from The Move and Wizzard and a couple of solo songs.
In the middle they were joined by The Proclaimers twins who sang four of their songs including the big hits 'Letter To America' and 'I'm Gonna Be(500 Miles) which went down really well.
This meant three or four of his solo songs were dropped from the set.
Roy was friendly on stage and told stories including how The Move toured with Jimi Hendrix.
A neat band with a four piece brass section.
A great gig full of classic songs with folks getting up and dancing in the second half.
Full setlist played....
1.Instrumental (including Brontosaurus riff)
2.California Man (The Move song)
3.Ball Park Incident (Wizzard song)
4.Kiss Me Goodnight, Boadicea
5.Fire Brigade (The Move song)

7.I Can Hear the Grass Grow (The Move song)
8.Angel Fingers (A Teen Ballad) (Wizzard song)
9.Are You Ready to Rock (Wizzard song)
Then four Proclaimers songs sung by The Proclaimers with backing by Roy Wood and his band

13.'I'm Goona Be(500 Miles)(Proclaimers song)
14.See My Baby Jive (Wizzard song)

16.Blackberry Way (The Move song)
15.I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (Wizzard song) joined by 50 piece childrens choir and The Proclaimers.
The show was recorded for a live dvd.

15 Dec 2013.....3pm matinee show.....
Barry Humphries 'Eat,Pray Laugh' Farewell Tour live at The Palladium,London W1.
Aussie entertainment legend plays his first London shows for around 15 years. He is now aged 79.
He has been a regular on British tv ever since i can remember.
He has already been here a month so it is around 50 shows for him at this venue alone.
On stage for two hours 30 mins over two sets.
The first half featured mainly Les Patterson and the second half featured Dame Edna.
Les is dribbling and spitting all over the front row as he speaks and is making farting noises and keeps things topical by calling himself "Australia's answer to Nigella Lawson'.
As Dame Edna there was more audience participation as she picked on folks in the crowd and some came up on stage with her.
Lots of funny bits and a good night out.
The show is at The Palladium until 05 Jan 2014 and then it tours around the UK.

13 Dec 2013.The Damned + Theatre Of Hate + Ruts DC live at The Roundhouse,London.
Punk legends The Damed play a sold out London show on their UK tour.
A nice trio of bands tonight who have all been going off and on for 30 years plus.
Sadly missed Ruts DC short set but i did see them earlier in the year.
Really good to see Kirk Brandon and his Theatre Of Hate again.I saw them back in 1981/1982.I have seen him with The Pack/Theatre Of Hate/Spear Of Destiny/Dead Men Walking.
On stage for around 40 mins including the great 'Do You Believe In The Westworld?'.
I have seen The Damned over 40 times.
A staggering 10 times just in 1977 alone including three shows at the legendary Roxy Club early in 1977 and later in 1977 when they headlined this same venue when support bands included Motorhead and The Dead Boys.
The Damned play for 90 mins with a good first half and a great second half.
Lots of punk rockers old and young jumping around down front.
The band play and sound perfect.Dave Vanian on vocals still looks like a funeral parlour worker and Captain Sensible is still his jokey self on stage but his guitar playing is now really impressive.
Lots of gems played including 'Love Song',
their hit cover of 'Eloise','I Just Can't Be Happy Today' and punk classics 'New Rose' and 'Neat Neat Neat'.
Encores included a great 'Jet Boy Jet Girl' and a superb 'Smash It Up'.
A great gig.
Nice surprise to see Paul McCartneys son
James here in the crowd tonight.

Walking up to the entrance i saw a bunch of guys singing. It was not carol singers
but 26 guys each shouting out a letter of the alphabet in a random way.Pretty neat.
A cool arty crowd here including tv presenter Miquita Oliver.
Also here were Julia Peyton-Jones, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Camila Batmanghelidjh, Diego Bivero-Volpe.The book features drawings from artists for each letter of the alphabet.Mat Collishaw, Phoebe Collings-James and Gavin Turk joined Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Idris Khan and Zara Martin.

Always nice to be at this superb five star hotel.
This hotel is the used by the likes of Bon Jovi when they visit London and others including Bob Dylan who stayed here when he played The Royal Albert Hall a couple of weeks ago.
Breakfast tv presenter Lorraine Kelly was the host tonight.Other guests here included celeb chefs Rick Stein and Nigel Slater.
When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday 9 October 2012, she almost paid the ultimate price. Shot in the head at point blank range while riding the bus home from school, few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in Northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest ever nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. 'I Am Malala' is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, and of Malala's parents' fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons. It will make you believe in the power of one person's voice to inspire change in the world.

Black Sabbath live at The 02 Arena,London.
Needless to say i was really looking
forward to seeing these metal legends.
This was the opening show of their UK tour.
Sabbath are another rock band i have a lot of history with as i have seen them over 25 times with various line-ups including with Ozzy in 1974,1975,1977,1978 before he left/was sacked from the band to go solo. For the 1978 shows at Hammersmith Odeon Black Sabbath were on their last legs and i saw up and coming support act Van Halen blow them offstage playing tracks from their classic debut album on their debut UK tour.
No surprise tonight is totally sold out as their '13' album went to number one in the UK in the summer.
This was the first album with original members Osbourne,Iommi and Butler since the 1970s.
Great atmosphere as it is floor standing.
I have a great view right of stage.
Black Sabbath on stage at 8.30pm for a set lasting around 1 hour 55 mins.
A nice stage production with one massive screen and two smaller screens.
Ozzy is on great form with his mad laughter and vocal bursts of "cuckoo" between songs. He poured water over himself as usual but only one bucket of water was thrown out and that went straight over a security guard in the pit.
Tony Iommi on guitar has the biggest and best metal riffs EVER.He has been present in all Sabbath line-ups with the various singers over the years.
Original drummer Bill Ward is absent tonight but no way would he have the energy of tonights younger drummer who does a great job that included a fine drum solo.
A perfect setlist of mainly older Sabbath classics and three tracks from the new album.
So many mega metal anthems played tonight with 'Paranoid' as the encore.
An excellent show.
Full Black Sabbath setlist played.....

OBIKA open their fourth Italian Restaurant and Mozzarella Bar in the London area..
A very modern building on a corner location in Soho.
We had a very nice four course dinner.
The highlight was the mains---lobster pasta.
The food was great overall even though the Italian waiters were not great on their English when explaining things.
www.obika.comCheck the OBIKA website here.

05 Dec 2013.I went to two events tonight.
6.30pm to 7.15pm was 'Gered Mankowitz: Vintage Stones' - private view at Atlas Gallery, 49 Dorset Street, London, W1.
Rolling Stones photos from the early days of 1965-1967 period on view here.
Gered was a teenager when he took these photos as
Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham thought his youth would give the photos a 'raw' feel.
Very expensive prices that start at £1200.
They are on view here until 26 Jan 2014.
Complimenary mojitos and presecco here for all.
Ronnie Wood was out in London the night before but the photos are of the period before he joined the band so he would not be here.
No Stones members or any other known faces here.
www.atlasgallery.comVisit their website here for more info.
7.30pm to 10.30pm was 'Denis O'Regan: Careless Memories' - book launch party at 15 Fouberts Place, off Carnaby Street,London, W1.
This was a proper event for sure.A nice big space with images of Duran on the wall and videos.
Glossy coffee table book showcasing photographs taken during Duran Duran's 1984 World Tour, published to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
I saw Duran Duran a few times in their 1980s heyday.
This was a time of Duranmania. When i worked at Hammersmith Odeon on security we had to help with the police escort the band needed after each show.
All four current members of the Duran Duran are here.
Simon Le Bon,John Taylor,Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor.
Press reports the day after said departed original member Andy Taylor was here but would not pose for photos with the test of the band.
Also here was Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet and the Spandau Ballet manager Steve Dagger.
I get half a dozen decent photos and had a nice chat to John Taylor about The Neurotic Outsiders which was a great album he made in the 1990s with Sex Pistol Steve Jones. He would have liked a live album to have come out from the show i saw when Simon Le Bon came on with them to sing The Damned
classic 'New Rose'.
Lots of complimentary Duval-Leroy champers all night along with wines, beers and lots of yummy Dim Sum food from the nearby Ping Pong restaurant.
A dj playing Duran and other 1980s tunes.
An excellent event.
www.ddcarelessmemories.comVisit the website here for more info.

Glen Matlock And The Philistines live at Surya,156 Pentonville Road,Kings Cross,London N1.
A first time visit by me to this newish venue up the road from The Lexington.
Tonight the band were a threesome as guitarist James Stevenson is unavailable.
The trio were on for 75 mins playing a great mix of solo tracks ,Sex Pistols,Rich Kids and cover versions.
No electric guitar so it has a semi acoustic feel as you can here the bass and drums a lot more.
A nice surprise guest was Spandau Ballet sax player Steve Norman who joined the band for 'Ambition' and
'Dead End Street'.His sax sounded great.
Other songs played included 'Somewhere Somehow','A Different World','Burning Sounds','Hard Work','God Save The Queen','Ghosts Of Princes And Towers','Hey Mister,'On Something','Steppin' Stone','Born Running' and 'All Or Nothing'.
A really good show as usual.
Glen Matlock And the Philistines 'Born Running'Play the video here.

03 Dec 2013....The Faces to play live in 2015??
Rod Stewart has told a Boston radio station of his intention to reunite with The Faces. The singer confirmed that Ronnie Wood's people were 'talking to my people, and we're earmarking 2015'. If it happens it will be the first time the band have performed together in over 20 years, though they have continued to play with Mick Hucknall replacing Stewart as the frontman.
Kind of makes sense as in 2014 The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart will be doing their own tours.

02 Dec 2013....Some sad news....
Reggae artist Junior Murvin has passed away at the age of 67.
The Jamaica Observer writes that the singer died at the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland earlier this morning (December 2). Best known for the Lee 'Scratch' Perry produced 1976 hit single 'Police and Thieves'.
The Clash covered the song 'Police and Thieves' on their classic 1977 debut album.

30 Nov 2013.The Screen On The Green centenary celebrations featuring a showing of The Clash docu film 'Westway To The World' followed by live sets by Glen Matlock,Viv Albertine and Hollie Cook at Screen On The Green,Upper Street,London N1.
Very nice to be back at this plush cinema with a full bar facing the big screen.
As i am a guest of Glen Matlock there was an artist area at the back near the bar where artists and guests had complimentary JD n cokes, brandy n cokes, wines, beers and nibbles all night which came in very handy.
Lots of folks here that i know.
I saw The Sex Pistols with Sid Vicious on bass at this venue in April 1977.
I was also at this venue for the film premiere in May 2000 of The Sex Pistols docu film 'The Filth And The Fury' which was attended by Steve Jones,Paul Cook and Robbie Williams but John Lydon and Glen Matlock did not attend.
Up first tonight we have 'The Clash: Westway to the World'.A 2000 documentary film about the British punk legends The Clash. In 2003 it won the Grammy Award for 'Best Long Form Music Video'.
Always great to see this full length film again.
Then we had the headliner for tonight Glen Matlock who is on earlier than the others as they have full
bands and Glen is solo acoustic.
Glen played this venue in 1976 with The Pistols.
Glen did a nine song 40 mins set and crammed in solo material,Sex Pistols,Rich Kids and cover versions into a very enjoyable set as usual.
1.Somewhere Somehow.
2.A Different World.
3.Burning Sounds
4.God Save The Queen.
6.Montague Terrace(In Blue)
7.On Something.
8.Steppin' Stone.
9.Pretty Vacant.
Next up was Viv Albertine and her band for a 40 mins set.Viv was a member of The Slits all girl punk band
in the 1970s.I saw them back then a few times.
Nice to see a couple of violin players in her band.
She looks great for her age but the set was under rehearsed with too many mistakes and stop starts.
Not many decent tunes either.
She should have done a couple of Slits songs.
Last up is Hollie Cook who is the daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook.Hollie and her great band play a nice 50 mins of tracks based around her debut album. With a 'tropical pop' sound she mixes 60s-style dub, ska and reggae beats that make it compulsive to move your body for a dance.
A good set and her second album should be out sometime next year.
The event ended after midnight but it was a really enjoyable evening.

29 Nov 2013....Respect is due corner....
Football legend Ryan Giggs(not to be confused with Raysgigs) celebrates his 40th birthday today and is still playing in the Man Utd first team.
The Welshman has been with United his entire career, making his first-team bow in 1991 as a 17-year-old and being a central figure in all of the Red Devils' successes since then.
He is the most decorated footballer in English history with thirteen Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, four FA Cup titles and much more.

28 Nov 2013.Bob Dylan And His Band live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
Last of his three shows at this venue. Before these trio of shows Bob last played this venue in 1966.
Tonight is also the last night of the current two month long European Tour.
Again it is a totally sold out show.
I enjoy it a bit more tonight compared to Tuesday as i am nearer the stage and the sound appears better.
Pretty much the same 1 hour 50 mins on stage over two sets but we get 'Blowin' In The Wind' as the final song of the night.
Bob with his legs apart when front of stage reminds me of singers like David Coverdale.Would be funny if Bob shouted out 'Here's One For Ya' like Mr Coverdale does.
Bob again played some neat harmonica.
Bob again did that hand on hip pose a couple of times that from him looked oddly camp.
The shows have been getting mainly great four and five star reviews from the major newspapers.
A full standing ovation at the end of the main set and they stayed standing for the two song crowd pleasing encore.
At the end of the show he even shook hands with a few folks down the front which is rare for him.
Just like on Tuesday he teased the crowd by keeping the houselights off as if he wwas coming back for a second lot of encores but from my experience from when i worked at his Hammersmith Odeon shows he would use that as a cover to leave the venue straight after the gig before the crowd could leave their seats.
A good show even though i would have preferred some of the older classics in the set.
At the end of the show i bumped into Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Patti Palladin for a nice chat.Patti had an album out with Johnny Thunders in the 1980s.
Full Bob Dylan setlist played tonight....
Set 1:
Things Have Changed....She Belongs to Me....Beyond Here Lies Nothin'....What Good Am I?....Duquesne Whistle....Waiting for You....Pay in Blood....
Tangled Up in Blue....Love Sick....
Set 2:
High Water (For Charley Patton)....Simple Twist of Fate....Early Roman Kings....Forgetful Heart....
Spirit on the Water....Scarlet Town....Soon after Midnight....Long and Wasted Years....
All Along the Watchtower....
Blowin' in the Wind....

27 Nov 2013....I went to three events tonight....
First of all thanks to Simon from Camden who let me know at 7pm by text that The Godfathers gig had been postponed due to illness in the band.
Saved me a wasted journey at 9pm from the West End but was too late to put up on the site.
First event tonight was 6.30pm to 7.15pm was for Rush. Not the band of course but the launch of Rush Hair Salon,101 King Street,Hammersmith,London W6.
Always good to support local events to me.

'Doped: The Real Life Story of the 1960s Racehorse Doping Gang' by Jamie Reid, a rollicking tale of crooked bookies and nobbled nags – with a sprinkle of sex and royalty for good measure – is the surprise winner of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year for 2013.
There are lots of good sports book out each year.
Jockey AP McCoy was here.A couple of other faces may have left as i got there a bit late.

26 Nov 2013.Bob Dylan And His Band live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
First of three shows by Bob at this venue that sold out without any advertising. It is rammed in here as choir seats behind the stage and gallery standing all sold.
Bob the legend is now age 72.
I have seen Bob over 20 times since 1978.
I must admit that the gigs back in the day were much better than the recent shows because that was when he played all his classic songs.
These are the last dates of his two month long European leg of his 'Never Ending Tour'.
Out for this tour is an eye-watering box set of all 41 studio albums since 1962.
Bob Dylan at the Royal Albert Hall. Now there’s a phrase with a history. His acoustic concert there in 1965 formed the centrepiece of the film 'Don’t Look Back'. His gig there in 1966, with The Beatles in the audience, introduced the electric Dylan to London.
Bob and his band were on for 1 hour 50 mins over two sets of 50 mins and 60 mins.
The stage is very dimly kit.
Bob was standing all through the show mainly behind his piano and sometimes just with the mic
with legs wide apart and rigid.
His guitar was not used by him at all.
No stage chat apart from telling the crowd there would be a break for an interval.
The band were good but Bobs current vocal style is not how i liked in in the 1970s.
Lots of hardcore Dylan fans here who loved it but i am more of a casual fan to be honest.
I went to the gigs at The Roundhouse and The 02 Arena not too long ago so i knew what to expect.
The setlist was not really to my liking.
Only a few songs were pre 1997 and it felt like an overdose of too recent material.
His recent album 'Tempest' got good reviews.
One certainly cannot and does not expect every one of 'Like A Rolling Stone', 'Blowin' in the Wind', 'Mr Tambourine Man' and 'The Times They Are a Changing' but a couple of them would be nice. Ignoring both a phenomenal back catalogue and audience desire for a genuine climax is perverse.
He does actually play 'Blowin' In The Wind' as an
alternative encore at some of his current shows as he swops the setlist by a couple of songs.
And then before 10pm he was gone. So ended performance 2,500-plus on the never-ending tour that began in 1988.
For me a kind of average show but great to be in the same room as a music legend who does things his way and who brings out albums and still tours with no fuss and no press or tv interviews.

24 Nov 2013.Bill Medley + Ray Lewis And the Drifters + Gary Puckett And the Union Gap + Clem Curtis And The Foundations live at Wembley Arena,London.
Four acts on stage tonight from the 1960s era hosted by a dj from GOLD Radio.
Big screens either side of the stage.
The venue is only half full tonight. No doubt that is due to promoters charging £100 and £75 for the front blocks of seats.
I have a nice view in the guest block left of stage and footie goalie legend Pat Jennings is a couple of rows in front of me.
Up first we have Clem Curtis And The Foundations who do a 25 mins five song set including two great hits 'Baby Now That I've Found You' and 'Build Me Up Buttercup'.
Like Bill Medley it is news to me that Gary Puckett And The Union Gap have never performed live n the UK before.
He had more hits in America than over here but his 50 mins set included great versions of his hits 'Willpower' and 'Young Girl'.
Next up is Ray Lewis And The Drifters who play a whole bunch of Drifters hits in their 30 mins set including 'Under The Boardwalk' and 'Kissing In The Back Row'.
One off European show in the middle of Bill Medley massive North American tour.
Bill Medley is best known as one half of The Righteous Brothers, it may surprise many to learn that Bill has never performed a live concert in the UK.
Bill Medley is now aged 73.
The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2003 by one of their biggest fans, Billy Joel.
The headline act Bill Medley was on stage for 55 mins .His set included hits 'You're My Soul And Inspiration','Rock And Roll Heaven' and his three massive hits 'Unchained Melody','I've Had The Time Of My Life' and 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' which i think is STILL THE MOST PLAYED TRACK EVER ON AMERICAN RADIO with over 8 million plays.
All the four acts came on together at the end to take a bow.
An enjoyable night with lots of classic songs played even though it was a bit cabaret in parts.

23 Nov 2013.Black Star Riders + Dead Daisies live at Shepherds Bush Empire,
BSR are Thin Lizzy with a new name as they did not feel right about bringing out a new album under the Thin Lizzy name.
Another band i have a lot of history with as i saw Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott a staggering 23 times from 1975 as well as the many post Lynott Thin Lizzy line ups.
Most of the crowd have arrived early to see The Dead Daisies who include some known musicians from other bands.
When we first got together, we discovered we all loved the same stuff,” says singer Jon Stevens. “Those bands from the seventies – Free, Bad Company, The Faces, the Stones".
The six members on stage were...
Jon Stevens (Noiseworks/INXS)
Darryl Jones (Rolling Stones)
Richard Fortus (Guns n Roses/Thin Lizzy)
Dizzy Reed (Guns n Roses)
Charley Drayton (The X-pensive Winos/The Cult)
David Lowry (Red Phoenix/Mink)
They played a really good 45 mins set featuring tracks from the band’s self-titled debut – free with the current issue of Classic Rock Magazine– which is a spirited conflation of their combined chops and experience, brought to bear over a dozen songs that pack in as much melody and nuance as they do hard licks and big choruses. And as if there weren’t enough impressive names aboard already, Slash even pops up on the swampish 'Lock‘N’Load', co-written with old buddy Stevens.
They ended their rockin' set with a neat cover of 'Helter Skelter'.
BSR play a 95 mins set that was a nice mix of Thin Lizzy classics and some tracks from the BSR debut album 'All Hell Breaks Loose'.
This is their first London show as The Black Star Riders.Just to remind you of their new name their BSR logo is all over the stage.
Scott Gorham on guitar is the only original Lizzy member these days.It is quite a brave move to change your legendary band name to one that will not stick out as much if you are browsing a gig guide.
The new album tracks are really good.
Ricky Warwick is great on vocals and the twin guitars are as pukka as ever.
The band seem to really relish playing the new songs that feeds into the Lizzy classics that sound even better tonight.
The last four songs were rock n roll perfection with 'Cowboy Song','The Boys Are Back In Town' and encores of 'Whiskey In The Jar' and 'Rosalie'.
The floor standing is dancing lots and the whole show rocked from start to finish.
Excellent gig.
BSR tour the UK until Sun 16 Dec.

22 Nov 2013.Queens Of The Stone Age live at Wembley Arena,London.
QOTSA are more popular than ever as their sixth studio album 'Like Clockwork' came out June 2013 to loads of great reviews and it charted at number two in the UK and number one in America.
This was the first of two nights at this venue on their UK arena tour.
This was their first time at Wembley Arena as they usually play Brixton Academy.
A rowdy boozed up Friday night crowd here for QOTSA who seem to be one of the coolest rock bands out there these days.
The band play for 1 hour 40 mins.
One big screen showing mainly recorded images and all the stage is red flooring and red equipment.
The floor standing area is very lively.
The tall presence of frontman Josh Homme
is the main focus for most folks.
A nice mix of older classics and new album tracks.Highlights included 'No One Knows',
'The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret','Little Sister','Go With The Flow and the second encore was the mega 'Feel Good Hit Of The Summer' and the final song 'A Song For The Dead' had some brilliant riffing guitar and pounding drums.
QOTSA were on top form tonight.

21 Nov 2013.Sigur Ros live at Wembley Arena,London.
Icelandic soundscapers Sigur Ros world tour returns to London after sold out shows at Brixton Academy earlier in the year. They are promoting their seventh album 'Kveikur' which came out earlier this year.
They headlined Madison Square Garden at Easter.
The across the board great reviews from their Brixton shows made me put them on my 'to do' list so here i am.
I knew the show for me would be more about the visuals rather than the music.
The venue is pretty full except for two or three empty blocks at the back.
The band are on stage for a full two hours.
Three big screens mixing mainly images with live footage.
The middle screen is one of those massive ones that takes up all the space behind the stage.Lots of lights and lasers.
The band play among a forest of 50 lamps.
For the first three or four songs the band are silhouetted by a white silk-screen curtain shrouding the stage as their soundscapes match the music to the visuals.
As the curtain fall nigh on a dozen musicians are revealed, with a brass and string section adding extra majesty to the efforts of the Icelandic trio (now minus keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, who left the band in January after 15 years).
There are a couple of surprises. The guitar player uses a violin bow to play his guitar for half the songs and gets a great sound out of it and the vocals are a falsetto type with an unintelligible lyrics style sung in Hopelandic and the other songs are sung in Icelandic.
In this way, it is similar to the use of scat singing in vocal jazz. The band's website describes it as "a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music".
Most songs start gently then end on a Muse type climax with all guns blazing.
They play their popular track 'Hoppipolla' that featured on BBC TV Planet Earh programme. You can see how their music is ideal for tv and film soundtracks.
Quite a unique band.A good show.
Watch the Sigur Ros video for 'Hoppípolla'You may not know the band but this tune will be familiar.

Sigur Ros playing 'Hoppipolla' live on Jools Holland tv show

20 Nov 2013.....6.45pm to 10.45pm.
The Rotten Hill Gang tv show recording feat Ian Hunter with Mick Jones + The Rebelles + Tapper Zukie with Mick Jones + The Sugarmen + The Rotten Hill Gang live at Mick Jones Rehearsal Studios,Victoria Industrial Estate,North Acton,West London.
North Acton is a pretty grim depressing area.Even more so on a cold rainy night like tonight.
We are here at the base camp for The Clash guitar legend Mick Jones where his two rooms include his rehearsal space and the second space where he keeps all his memorabilia etc.
Handy for Mick Jones as it is only four stops on the Central Line from his Holland Park home.
It is nice and intimate as maybe only 40 folks here.It was a bit stop and start between the acts for equipment changes etc.
It was pretty rammed during recording then folks would spill into the corridor between breaks to enjoy the free booze on offer.
There were half a dozen hand held video cameras recording it and one big one on runners at the back with its owner all night saying "can all tall people stand to the left or right but not in the middle".
The legend that is film director Julien Temple was using one of the cameras.
Some faces here in the crowd included Don Letts,James Stevenson, the singer from The Dirty Strangers, some journos John Robb,Chris Needs and Chris Salewicz.
A few episodes have been recorded already with the first one due out at Christmas via their internet channel and then to mainstream tv a bit later i presume.
Each act does two or three songs and maybe a retake of a song.
Ian Hunter and Mick Jones play two covers which were Sonny Bono's "Laugh at Me" which is on Mott The Hooples debut album and a Little Richard cover.
The Rebelles include Ian Hunters daughter Traci as one of their vocalists.
They sung a couple of cover versions.
Reggae legend Tapper Zukie performed his classic 'M.P.L.A.' track from 1976 twice with Mick Jones on guitar. It was great.
Then Sugarmen play four tracks. This young indie band are popular back home in Liverpool and are worth keeping an eye on.
Then The Rotten Hill Gang play three songs. They feature Hollie Cook on vocals who is the daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook.
Mick Jones was telling me in America the footage will probably end up on comedy website Funny Or Die.
Overall quite a cool event to attend.
www.funnyordie.comVisit the website for a 6 minute jokey interview with Mick and Paul from their recent promo visit to New York.

18 Nov 2013.Mott The Hoople + Thunder live at The 02 Arena,London.
I went to all five of the Mott Hammersmith Apollo re-union shows in 2009.
As with the 2009 shows original drummer Dale Griffin is too ill to take part and will be again replaced by Pretenders sticksman Martin Chambers.
My first ever gig at Hammersmith Odeon was Mott The Hoople + Queen way in Dec 1973.
David Bowie and Mick Jagger were there too.
Their heyday period was 1972 to 1974 when they had half a dozen Top 20 UK singles and i loved their style of glam rock.
This is the last Mott show on their five date UK tour.
I did mention on this site months ago that Mott playing the 02 Arena did not suit them and it backfired on them as only a third of the tickets have been sold for tonight.
Level 4 is closed as unsold and blocks of seats at the back of Level 1 and even the rear block of floor seating is unsold.
Only 5000 people here which is the worst attended show of the 100 plus shows i have seen at this venue. All the other gigs on the tour were to smaller theatre venues.
They should have played a couple of nights at a smaller theatre venue in London.
As expected its an older crowd for sure.
Up first we have a good name support act who are Thunder who have some of their own fans here and play a really good 45 mins set.Always great to hear songs like 'Dirty Love' and 'Back Street Symphony'
Full Thunder setlist played....
Dirty Love....River of Pain....Higher Ground....Low Life in High Places....
Backstreet Symphony....The Devil Made Me Do It....Love Walked In....I Love You More Than Rock 'N' Roll....
During the interval i see Jimmy Page and Mick Jones. This was the third event in less than a week that Jimmy and me at the same event. His photographer mate Ross Halfin was in the photo pit all night.
Mott The Hoople are on for 1 hour 45 mins. They have big screens and i was told the live dvd from this tour will be out soon.
Things start well with 'Roll And Roll Queen' and 'One Of The Boys' but the next 45 mins of lesser known songs plod a bit in this vast arena as opposed to when they played them at Hammersmith Apollo in 2009 when the intimate venue suited the songs.
Ian Hunter looks and sounds amazing for age 74 and Martin Chambers did great drumming all the way through the show.
The second half of the show was fantastic as we had all their biggest hits.
Big time fan Joe Elliot from Def Leppard joins them on stage for a mega 'All The Young Dudes'.I must have seen Joe come on with Mott or Ian Hunter solo to sing this song with him a dozen times over the years.
Overall it was a great show but in a smaller theatre like Hammersmith Apollo or Royal Albert Hall it would have been greater.

Saturday Gigs

17 Nov 2013.Sat 16 Nov and Sun 17 Nov was The Olympia Music Fair.A great place to buy rare vinyl, bootlegs and bargain cds, dvds and vinyl singles/albums.
I went along on Sunday afternoon.
As per usual Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page is here with his photographer mate Ross Halfin.
My dealer mates told me Jimmy Page was also there on Saturday.
Lots of very nice rare items here but some have expensive prices.
I bought 10 vinyl albums for only 50p each
from various acts from the 1960s and 1970s.
Yeah i know, the last of the big spenders.
All were in really good condition.
I got a FRENCH Sex Pistols 'Pretty Vacant'
7 inch single with picture cover for only a quid.
I think the dealer must have put it in his £1 box by mistake.

16 Nov 2013.Chase & Status live at The 02 Arena,London.
Chase & Status started out as a drum and bass production duo and over the last couple of years have become very popular
with their eclectic mix of dub-step, hip-hip,rock and electronic dance music.
Creating music that manages to recall rave culture yet be ultra-modern in its delivery is not an easy task.
They have had an amazing past couple years of success where they can now headline big arenas all over the UK.
This is the last night of their UK arena tour to promote their third studio album 'Brand New Machine'.The album features vocal contributions from a new wave of British talent, including Louis M^ttrs, Moko, Jacob Banks and Elli Ingram, as well as contributions from Major Lazer, Nile Rodgers and rapper Pusha T.
It reached number 2 in the UK album charts.
The atmosphere inside the venue is fantastic as the crowd are all revved up for a proper messy rave night and the floor standing area is a heaving mass of bodies.
The crowd are jumping a plenty tonight
Lots of lights and big screens in their stage production as Chase and Status are behind two huge consoles with a giant C and S in front of each of them.
They use a few different singers and some are also the support acts tonight.
Their anthemic dance classic 'Blind Faith' is the final song of the main set and never fails to send a shiver all over me.
The first encore is a frantic version of
Rage Against The Machine 'Killing In The Name' which the crowd loved.
You can see why they have crossed over and can play big festivals like Reading,Leeds, Download and Glastonbury as well as the usual dance festivals.
A really good dance gig.
This was the full setlist i think....
Gun Metal Grey....International....No Problem....Hypest Hype....Gangsta Boogie VIP....Pressure....Count On Me....End Credits....Machine Gun....Blk & Blu....
Eastern Jam....Flashing Lights....Heaven Knows....Smash TV....Pieces....Time....Let You Go....Lost & Not Found....Alive....

Killing in the Name (Rage Against the Machine cover)....Fool Yourself....

14 Nov 2013....6.45pm to 11.45pm....
The Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards
at The Roundhouse,London.
Out of all the music awards shows in London every year i would say this is my fave.
Drinks reception then around 550 seated for a three course dinner and we are part of the 50 standing or sitting at tables without food next to the bar which has free booze all night.Event proper started at 7.10pm.
We had some live acts between courses. The Temperance Movement played a song at the start then Zakk Wylde played a couple of songs on the piano in the middle and The Darkness played five songs after the awards at 10.35pm including 'Black Shock','Get Your Hands Off My Woman' and of course 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'.Singer Justin Hawkins was in a dodgy catsuit as usual but was entertaining.
Even more so when some drunk folks tried to get on stage for a dance.
You forget that their debut album 'Permission To Land' from 2003 sold 1.5 million copies in the UK alone.
The Darkness won The Showman award.
Fish was the host and attendees included Black Sabbath,Mott The Hoople,Jimmy Page,Wilko Johnson,Alex Lifeson from Rush,Bill Byford from Saxon,Thunder,Steve Hackett,Scott Gorham,Ricky Warwick,Walter Trout,Billy Morrison,James Dean Bradfield from Manic Street Preachers,Rick Wakeman, Ginger Wildheart,Brody Dalle,Bernie Marsden, The Virginmarys, rock dj Nicky Horne,Rival Sons jazz legend Chris Barber plus a few others no doubt i missed.
Plenty of music biz folks including ITB booking agents Rod MacSween and Steve Zapp,
Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood,
rock photographer Ross Halfin, the KISS UK tour manager who confirmed to me that KISS will be playing the UK in the spring of next year and lots of folks from the main gig promoters, record companies,pr etc.
Black Sabbath won three awards.
They took home Album Of The Year for comeback title '13', Event Of The Year for reaching number one after 43 years, and the previously announced Living Legends award. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler were present.Original drummer Bill Ward is not here as he is not in the current line up.
Wilko Johnson was presented the Innovator award by Jimmy Page, defying the odds after he was told he might not survive past October when he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Johnson admitted 'I'm supposed to be dead now'.
I got a nice photo with Wilko Johnson and his autograph.
Legendary American music manager Shep Gordon who has looked after Alice Cooper for over 40 years is here to pick up the VIP award.
Led Zeppelin 'Celebration Day' won best dvd award and Jimmy Page collected.
The brother of Rory Gallagher picked up an award on his behalf.
Full List Of The Winners Here The event minute by minute.
Got some goodie bags that each had ORANGE mini speakers,a hardback copy of the current issue of Classic Rock and some other bits n pieces.
An excellent event.
