01 Aug 2013...7.15pm to 9.30pm...
Jamal Edwards - 'SELF BELIEF:THE VISION' E book launch party at The Rose Club,25 Orchard Street,London W1.
Jamal Edwards is an amazing success story as now at the age of just 22 this young black guy owns his own online music channel SBTV which The Sunday Times said was worth between £6m and £8m.
SB.TV was founded in 2006, when a teenage Jamal Edwards began filming rap freestyles with a handycam, which he would then upload to his YouTube account. For the first three years Edwards acted alone to provide amateur footage regarding many British grime artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder, with the first SB.TV video being uploaded in February 2007.As the channel began to attract more attention, it also began offering lifestyle interviews and event coverage, and a production team of ten people was established as a result.
Recently, the company has cited its aim to become a more 'diverse youth lifestyle broadcaster,' incorporating more genres of music. This has been seen in the inclusion of acoustic artists such as Ed Sheeran and other popular artists such as Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, The Wanted and Pixie Lott.
In February 2011, SB.TV launched their own music label Just Jam (an imprint of Sony RCA) and recently announced their first signing as east London MC, Maxsta. In March 2011 Jamal Edwards was featured in a Google Chrome advertisement, which tracked the emergence of SB.TV as one of among many of the UK's rising youth broadcasters.Such has been the success of SB.TV that Edwards has been credited with helping to 'reinvigorating' the UK rap and grime scene.
Tonight he is launching his 'E' book which is published online over six weekly instalments.

31 July 2013.
August is a quiet month for indoor gigs so a good time for venues like Hammersmith Apollo to close for the entire month to get a nice lick of paint.
Legendary live venue Hammersmith Apollo(was Odeon)
to receive a multi-million pound upgrade revamp
to recreate its iconic 1932 Art Deco design, and will be unveiled to the public on 7th September.
The Hammersmith Apollo, one of the world’s best-known live entertainment venues, is to be restored to its former 1932 Art Deco glory thanks to a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The investment from new owners AEG Live and CTS Eventim promises to give the venue a new lease of life and return the iconic Grade II* listed building to its best.
The renovation is being meticulously overseen by the award-winning Foster Wilson Architects.
The refurbishment will also see the return of the two marble staircases currently hidden beneath the extended stage. Whilst in the circle the original windows will be revealed allowing natural light to again flood the circle bar.
There will also be newly constructed bars and new seats in the stalls, whilst the seats in the circle will be raised in height and re-upholstered improving legroom and comfort. By re-organising the stalls seating layout, the Hammersmith Apollo has been able to double the space available for wheelchair users.
The Hammersmith Apollo originally opened on 28 March 1932 as the Gaumont Palace cinema, designed in the Art Deco style by renowned theatre architect Robert Cromie. The building is one of the United Kingdom’s biggest and best-preserved Art Deco super cinemas.
The venue changed name from Hammersmith Odeon to Hammersmith Apollo in the early 1990s.I spent the entire 1980s there on front stage secuirty when it was the number one venue in Europe.
Refurbishment of the Hammersmith Apollo is scheduled for completion at the end of August, ahead of the new and improved Apollo’s first concert; teen pop sensation Selena Gomez on Monday 7th September 2013.
Really looking forward to seeing the new look of my fave venue that i have so much history with.
My first show there was nearly 40 years ago at the end of 1973.

JJ Cale, the man who wrote Eric Clapton classics 'Cocaine' and 'After Midnight', has died aged 74.
Clapton and Cale collaborated on the 2006 album 'The Road to Escondido', which won the Best Contemporary Blues Album category in 2008.
He also sang on 'Angel' on Clapton's 'Old Sock' album - Cale's last released music.
His career saw him release 14 albums and his songs have been covered by acts including Johnny Cash and Santana.
He was a bit of a recluse but i saw JJ Cale headline Hammersmith Odeon way back in 1976.
27 July 2013.Glen Matlock And The Philistines live at The Railway Hotel, Southend,Essex.
I got down early on the Saturday to make a whole day of it by the seaside.A lovely sunny day down by the beach with a cool breeze.Lots of folks here.
For this special one off show the band will feature Blondie drummer Clem Burke on drums.
They are playing as a trio as guitarist James Stevenson has just joined up with The Cult the past week to be their second guitarist on their world tour.
Tonight is a 200 capacity sold out show.
I get invited to the soundcheck at 6.30pm and is great to see the band run through four songs.
It is a lot louder when there is no proper crowd as there as just half a dozen folks are here.
For their main set the band play a brilliant 80 mins set of uptempo rock n roll.
Pretty amazing how Clem Burke has learnt all their songs after just a couple of days rehearsals.
Some of the songs seem a bit faster than usual due
to Clems enthusiastic drumming style.
Songs like 'Yeah Right!' really went down well as a faster version as all the crowd danced along.
Jim Lowe on bass gives knowing smiles of admiration of his rhythm partner.
Glen looking tanned and working the crowd well.
So many cracking rockin' songs one after the other with the usual mix of solo material,Sex Pistols, Rich Kids and some cover versions.
A corker of a gig.Well worth the travel.

Sylvain Sylvain live at The 100 Club,London.
New York Dolls guitar legend plays London.
His band feature Gary Powell (The Libertines / Dirty Pretty Things) on drums.
Sylvain and band on stage for around 85 mins.
The set is a mix of solo material, covers and a few New York Dolls gems.Sylvain loves to chat on stage.
A bit too much chat even though a couple of New York Dolls stories were good.
It is good time catchy garage punk rock n roll.
Set included 'I Wanna Be Loved By You'(Heartbreakers cover),'Pills','Teenage News','Jet Boy',a mega version of Johnny Thunders 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory' and 'Trash".
For the encore they were joined by Sex Pistol Glen Matlock on bass and Blondie drummer Clem Burke on drums for a great version of The New York Dolls classic 'Personality Crisis'.
On stage at the end Sylvain said give him 10 mins and he will come out to say hello and he did just that.Signed everything, posed for photos and was very chatty and friendly to all.
A really good gig.
24 July 2013.I went to three events today.
3pm to 4pm Ian Dury 'More Than Fair – Paintings, Drawings and Artworks, 1961-1972' at The Royal College of Art, London SW7.
I could not attend the drinks preview evening for this event on Monday 22 July as i was at The Smashing Pumpkins gig.
I popped in for an hour to see the 30 pieces of pop art on display at this venue next to The Royal Albert Hall where Ian Dury was taught by Sir Peter Blake.Lots of bare breasted women feature in them.
Well worth going to as it is free to get in.
It is on until 01 Sept 2013.
Ian Dury i saw play live loads of times before his sad death. In 1979 he headlined one of the Concerts For Kampuchea at Hammersmith Odeon and The Clash were the support act and it was the only time The Clash ever played that venue.

Re-launch party for Luna Rossa at 192 Kensington Park Road,Notting Hill Gate,London W11.
Fantastic Italian hospitality and service at this prime location in Notting Hill Gate.
We had lots of yummy complimentary Italian dishes and a whole batch of different cocktails here tonight at this venue that was really buzzing.
Family-run restaurant group Made in Italy is relaunching its Notting Hill outpost Luna Rossa after a complete refurbishment and will emerge with refreshed interiors, a new rotating sfizi (‘small pleasures’) counter serving Southern Italian tasting plates and an authentic charcoal grill.
Additional features will include a split-level dining room, private dining room, all-day deli and an Italian wine bar serving regional wines and barrel-aged cocktails. The double-fronted restaurant will open out onto the pavement and serve food all day, every day.
There will be space for 20 guests at the sfizi counter with 15-20 different plates on the conveyor at any one time. The selection, which will also be available in the delicatessen and wine bar, will include Octopus and potato salad, Veal meatballs and Sicilian caponata, as well as cured meats, fresh breads and homemade cheeses – burata, buffalo mozzarella, and naturally smoked ricotta – from the Made in Italy production kitchens in Battersea.
The dining room menu has been redesigned to reflect the new Luna Rossa style and will serve salads, pastas and char-grills, as well as a restored pizza menu updated weekly. Desserts include cheesecakes, freshly baked tarts and chocolate soufflés, alongside more contemporary dolci, such as the Ferrero Roche cake or Pizza alla Nutella.
At ground level, a bijoux wine bar will spill out onto the street with ombretta (a 50ml tasting serving) starting at just £1. Five varieties will be served straight from the barrel, while the list will showcase regional grapes from Puglia, Umbria, Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily, Campania and Abruzzo across a further 40 bins. The Made in Italy portfolio includes Made in Italy (Kings Road and Old Compton Street), Santa Lucia on Hollywood Road, and Mozzarella & More on Kings Road. A future opening in Wimbledon is scheduled for autumn.

23 July 2013.
Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band live at The Millenium Stadium,Cardiff,Wales.
We are spoilt for great live music in London but some bands are worth a trek and Bruce is one of them.
The pubs and bars around the stadium are selling beers for only £2 and Mojitos are only £3 which is like half London prices and they are playing classic Bruce tunes too.
There are surprises inside the stadium.First instead of it being 60,000 outdoors they have sold only 30,000 so half the ground behind the stage is hidden and they have put the roof on so the atmosphere inside is perfect as everyone has a fantastic view.
Bruce and the boys are due on at 7pm but come on late at 7.45pm.I was thinking maybe we may get less than 3 hours tonight...no chance as they play a mammoth set that finished at 11.15pm so 3 hours 30 mins on stage.....Yes 3 hours 30 mins on stage.
This was an incredible show from start to finish.
A different setlist every night it seems with songs added and dropped and swopped around.Amazing band.
I have seen around 100 live music events this year but this was the BEST GIG OF 2013 SO FAR.Yep even better than Bruce at The Olympic Park and both The Rolling Stones shows and those three were all 10/10 gigs.
As usual some 200 fans have brought song requests to hold up.There are five podiums across the front of the stage for Bruce to use and get near the fans to shake hands and uses all five of them often.
Eric Burdon joined them on stage for an Animals song.
Full setlist played....
1.This Little Light of Mine
2.Long Walk Home

Wed July 24 Leeds Arena...Bruce and the boys will be the first band to play this brand new indoor venue that will hold around 13,000 people. Most of the major UK tours will now call there so a great result for live music fans in Leeds.
July 27 and 28 Kilkenny.
22 July 2013.Smashing Pumpkins + Ash live at Wembley Arena,London.
Like Smashing Pumpkins the support act Ash hit their heyday in the 1990's.
Ash were on stage for 40 mins.
It was good to hear some of their old tunes even though the sound was a bit messy.
Full setlist played....
A Life Less Ordinary...Girl From Mars...Joy Kicks Darkness...Goldfinger...Kung Fu...Evil Eye...Shining Light...Orpheus...Burn Baby Burn...
Last time in London was sold out in Brixton for Smashing Pumpkins so a bigger venue tonight but it is only three quarters full.
Smashing Pumpkins were massive in the 1990's
and have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. They are on a European Tour to promote their 2012 album 'Oceania'.
Smashing Pumpkins were on stage for two hours.
I like the way singer Billy Corgan has a gift for pissing off everyone around him.He is pretty happy on stage tonight with his new band members.Their sound can be brutal and endurance testing for the casual fan like me but they play a few good oldies.
Enjoyable in parts and hard work in others.
The loyal fans down front loved it.
Full setlist played....
4.Space Oddity (David Bowie cover)
12.One Diamond, One Heart
14.Bullet with Butterfly Wings
17.Stand Inside Your Love

After tv adverts with Iggy Pop selling car insurance and John Lydon selling butter it is now the turn of an early Buzzcocks classic track 'Boredom' that is being used for a Sainsburys tv advert.

20 July 2013.
Goldfrapp live at Somerset House,London.
This was one of the annual Summer Series fortnight of gigs held at this venue.
Somerset House is one of this country's finest and largest 18th century buildings and the outdoor courtyard is a great place to see a band as the lights and lasers bounce off the buildings as they play.
Goldfrapp are an electronic music band from London who have incorporated glam rock and synth pop sounds into their music.
Their fourth album 'Seventh Tree' placed a greater emphasis on ambient and downtempo music, while their fifth album, 'Head First', found the group exploring 1980s-influenced synth pop.'Head First' also earned them their second Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2010.
Goldfrapp are on stage for 95 mins.
The first few numbers were pretty mellow and included a couple of new tracks from the upcoming album.
It got more lively as the set went on.
Alison on vocals is like a dance version of Siouxsie.Cool and sexy.
They have some great very infectious tunes including 'Number 1','A&E', 'Ride a White Horse' and 'Ooh La La'.
Encores included my fave song of theirs the brilliant 'Black Cherry' followed by 'Train' and another uptempo gem 'Strict Machine'.
Overall a good show after a slow start.
Goldfrapp are scheduled to release their sixth studio album 'Tales of Us' in September 2013 when they will play a full UK tour to promote it.
The original video for 2003 single 'Black Cherry' was filmed at Somerset House.
Watch Black Cherry Video
19 July 2013.The International Swingers + The Rebelles live at The Lexington, 96 Pentonville Road,Islington,London N1.
My first time at this newish venue that hold around 200 and is nicely laid out with a raised area at the back where the bar is.
Up first we have The Rebelles who are three female singers who include Ian Hunters daughter Traci and a backing band. Some nice harmonies in their 30 mins set of cover versions with nice takes on gems like 'Pretty Vacant','20th Century Boy', 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' and 'Teenage Kicks'.
After tours in Australia and North America this is the first European Show by The International Swingers whose members include
Glen Matlock(Sex Pistols/Rich Kids/Iggy Pop/ The Faces),Clem Burke(Blondie-Eurythmics), James Stevenson(Generation X/The Alarm/Gene Loves Jezebel), Gary Twinn(Supernaut/Twenty Flight Rockers).
Tonight is an invite only show for comp winners and guests of the band.
On stage for a full 90 mins the show was a great mix of their own songs as well as classics from their old bands and other covers.
Glen looks to be really enjoying it.
Pretty amazing to see Clem Burke up nice and close and you can see why he is called 'The American Keith Moon' as pretty much every song finishes on some wild drumming. He is also talking a lot more on stage than when he plays with Blondie. The band all look good for their age and still have that 'young at heart' rock n roll desire to put on a good show.
Gary took over most of the vocals.
A great little club show that rocked.
Hopefully on the cards is a full UK tour at some stage in the future.
Out of Control (Twenty Flight Rockers cover)

18 July 2013.I had a lovely full day out at
Greenwich 10am to 8pm for a hotel and venue showcase so the reviews for 17 July were put up a day late so sorry for the delay.
10am I arrive in the Greenwich area for three hours before the showcase officially started as it is an area i have not been to that often so wanted to make a full day of it.
Had a walk through the famous Greenwich foot tunnel under The Thames which was built in 1909.
The Cutty Sark boat was good to see.All the buildings of The Old Royal Naval College were great and Greenwich has a fantastic selection of shops including an indoor market.
There were tourists around everywhere here.
Really buzzing on a lovely sunny day.
1.30pm meet up with 24 others at the Devonshire House,Greenwich for complimentary lunch buffet with Pimms, beers and wines.
2.30pm we had a complimentary 20 mins fantastic and exhilarating London RIB Speed Boat Trip(12 persons per boat) where you saw lots of famous London Historic sites as we whizzed up and down The Thames as they played The James Bond and Hawaii Five-0 themes in the background.
Then we had a two hour walking tour of all the famous sites of Greenwich which included a couple of olde pubs etc.Very enjoyable.
then 5.15pm to 8pm back at Devonshire House for a full complimentary BBQ including steak,
lamb, king prawns, ribs, etc along with more Pimms, beers and wines in their courtyard.
Devonshire House has some special offers at present to stay there or for hosting events there.Greenwich really is worth a visit.
Sadly run out of time to get to the LELE PYP launch party at 5b Stafford Street, Mayfair, London W1 as they kindly put me on the guest list.
Lele PyP is a fashion enterprise founded in 2008 by the three siblings Stephanie, Samantha and Bernardo Müller Knab, based in Switzerland and specialized in the design, development and distribution of high-end women’s shoes and accessories.
17 July 2013.I went to two events tonight.
6.45pm to 8.30pm was the launch party for
'Barbour by Bella Freud' at Soho House,Old Compton Street,London W1.
Famous British brand Barbour has collaborated with British designer Bella Freud to create a capsule collection of women's knitwear.
Mainly the female fashion press here.
The new range is on display in one room and there are complimentary drinks in the bar area with prosecco, gin cocktails, beers, wines and canapes for all guests.
9pm to 11.30pm was The Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve Summer Party on board 'Voyager' that was docked at Butlers Wharf,by Tower Bridge,London SE1.
This was excellent to say the least. This large yacht has been around the world stopping off at various locations to host parties for this famous drinks brand.Choice of four different Johnnie Walker Whiskey complimentary cocktails all night.A nice glammed up crowd.Singer Paloma Faith was the dj tonight and she looked good in a red and white polka dot outfit and after her set she sang a stunning cover version of Etta James "I'd Rather Go Blind" with piano for backing and a couple of her female friends on backing vocals.Other guests here were Radio 1 dj Greg Burns and former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.
Sitting outdoors on a stunning vessel by the river by Tower Bridge on a lovely summer evening drinking cocktails......very nice.
A really enjoyable event.
16 July 2013...7.15pm to 10.30pm...

We get a 30 mins live set from up and coming act who have a female singer called AlunaGeorge. They played tracks from their debut album 'Body Music' which is out later this month on Island Records.
15 July 2013.
Beach Boys fans have complained after it was revealed that even The Beach Boys, well known for their four part harmonies, have resorted to using Auto-Tune on their new album, 'Live - The 50th Anniversary Tour'. Fans on a forum have called the results 'embarrassing' and accused the band of sounding like robots.
14 July 2013.Lionel Richie + Jennifer Lopez + Chic feat Nile Rodgers live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
Another sunny day for the last of the six big shows here.I have done all six including both The Rolling Stones shows.
It is not sold out tonight but it is a massive crowd of some 50,000 for Lionel Richie and co.
I get some complimentary beers and ciders in the media tent between bands and the gold circle area front of stage is back again tonight and get in there ok for all three bands.
Most of the crowd have got in early to see Chic featuring dance music legend Nile Rodgers.
I saw Chic play two shows at Hammersmith Odeon in 1979 in their disco heyday.
Chic play for 60 mins. They are all over the UK festivals this summer promoting their great new cd 'Up All Night' which features the best tracks of Chic,Sister Sledge and other acts Nile Rodgers has produced. The band like in the old days feature two female singers and two brass players.
The sound is dodgy for the first 10 mins and for the third song 'I'm Coming Out' the band sound is only coming out of the stage monitors and nothing via the pa.Nile puts a smile on it and rescues it by playing loads of great dance tunes.Gems played include 'Dance,Dance,Dance','I Want Your Love','We Are Family',they were joined by Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon on vocals for 'Notorious',then 'My Forbidden Lover',the Niles Rodgers produced David Bowie track 'Lets Dance' and mega versions of 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times' with 50 comp winners on stage for a boogie and Simon Le Bon came on too.
Nile Rodgers co-wrote and plays guitar on the massive summer hit 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk which is played over the pa at the end of the set and Nile and the band sing along to it with the crowd.
Next up is Jennifer Lopez who does not play the UK that often so this is my first time seeing her.
She looks visually great of course for her 70 mins set and is very enjoyable to watch.
Very much in the Shakira/Beyonce mould with lots of slick dance routines with her eight male dancers and shaking her booty and plenty of gyrating.Lots of costume changes too.
We get a makeshift boxing ring for a couple of songs.Hits played 'Love Don't Cost A Thing','Jenny From The Block','Lets Get Loud','On The Floor' and encore of 'Dance Again'.
I first saw Lionel Richie fronting The Commodores way back in 1978 and many shows after and loads of Lionel Richie solo shows over the years too.
Lionel Richie is on stage for 95 mins with a great mix of older Commodores funky tunes and his big solo ballads. The big smile and friendly stage personality are loved by all his UK fans.
Highlights included 'Penny Lover','Easy',
'Dancing With The Night','Still','Stuck On You',
'Brick House','Three Times A Lady','Say You Say Me','Endless Love' with all the words on the big screen to sing along with, and a final trio of gems
'Dancing On The Ceiling','Hello' and 'All Night Long' with more mass singing.
A great end to six fab days of live music in Hyde Park.
Promoters AEG did a great job and the wraparound state of the art big screens used each night were just fantastic.Same again next year please.
13 July 2013.The Rolling Stones live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
Weather forecast said it would be very hot down there and it was the hottest day of the year.
The weather in 1976 was very hot when i saw The Stones outdoors at Knebworth after the four Stones shows i had seen indoors at Earls Court.
Well done to The Stones hardcore fans who got there early and had to put up with the scorching sunshine.I opted to arrive late and miss the support bands and the long queues for overpriced food and drink as a paleface like me hates it when its gets too hot like this.
Nice to have a week gap between the shows.
Another 65,000 sold out show and the last gig on their current tour.
The stage times were the same as last week.
8.25pm...Rolling Stones 1969 Hyde Park Footage.
8.30pm to 10.30pm...The Rolling Stones.
I get a better view this week as well as i had a rekky last week of how the Tier 1,2 and 3 standing areas are laid out front of stage.
To the right of the walkway down the middle are the Tier 1 and 2 expensive standing tickets and the entire left side of the walkway is Tier 3 general admission so early arrivals for Tier 3 could get front of stage and by the walkway.
I get a decent spot dead centre between the two huge green leafed covered sound desks.
Again it was a totally mega 2 hour show.
Like last week 'Start Me Up' with fireworks opened the show. For the second hour it was darker and the red flares were lit for 'Sympathy For The Devil'
Mick Taylor joined the band again for a couple of songs but there were no other surprise guests. The setlist changed by a few songs compared to last week and included their 1980 hit ‘Emotional Rescue’ with some fab high pitched vocals by Mick.
The walkway was a few yards in front of me so it was great to see Mick up close and for 'Miss You' we had Mick,Keef and Ronnie on the walkway.
Mick and backing singer Lisa on the walkway for 'Gimme Shelter' was also a great vocal duel.
The big screens here were again top notch.
How does one band have so many iconic rock n roll songs in their set?
No wonder they are called 'The Greatest Rock n Roll Band In The World'
The Stones really are on top form tonight.
One of the best gigs of the gig so far.
Even slightly better than last week i thought.
Full setlist played....

12 July 2013. Ray Davies + Elvis Costello And The Imposters + Gabrielle Aplin + Nick Lowe live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
"Every cloud has as a silver lining" they say.It is a shame the headliner Elton John has had to pull out of this show due to illness but the promoters AEG have kindly said all ticket holders get a full refund and it now becomes a free gig for all with remaining free tickets on the internet first come first served.
Having said that there were still loads of space here compared to The Rolling Stones show last week and easy to get near the front as the gold circle area planned for Elton John had been taken away.
Another lovely sunny day in Hyde Park.
My media pass got me complimentary beers and ciders in the media tent between the bands.
There are loads of deckchairs backstage here.
Because Elton John has pulled out Nick Lowe has been moved from the second stage headliner to the main stage bill to play to a bigger crowd.
Nick is acoustic tonight for his 45 mins set.
Lots of great lyrics and you can hear every word to the country tinged tunes.Highlights were 'Rome Wasn't Built In A Day','Cruel To Be Kind',What's So Funny About Peace, Love And Understanding'
and 'I Knew The Bride(When She Used To Rock n Roll).A really good set.
Next up was Gabrielle Aplin who i do not know that much about.Only on stage for 30 mins but half her set was cover versions.
Next are Elvis Costello And The Imposters who i saw play a great show a month ago at The Royal Albert Hall and tonight is another cracker as it is a hits galore 80 mins set of his best tunes.
Highlights played including....
Accidents Will Happen... I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down...Radio Radio...Every Day I Write The Book...Watching the Detectives...Alison...Good Year for the Roses...Oliver's Army... (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea... (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes/Purple Rain cover...Pump It Up...
(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love and Understanding...
Encore:...Shipbuilding...I Want You...
The big screens were fantastic for all the acts.
British 60s legend Ray Davies also plays loads of classic gems in his 90 mins set as he played mainly Kinks tracks.Highlights included 'Where Have All The Good Times Gone','Sunny Afternoon',
'Dead End Street',Dedicated Follower Of Fashion',
'See My Friends','All Day And All Of The Night',
a mega 'Waterloo Sunset','Come Dancing','Apeman',
'Tired Of Waiting For You' and mega versions of
'You Really Got Me','Days' and encore of 'Lola'.
Ray Davies,Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe are three of the UK's finest songwriters and all on the same bill tonight and it was free for all in the park on a lovely sunny day.Perfect really.
11 July 2013.The Dirty Strangers live at The Borderline Club,London.
For those of you who do not know the band are in the Rolling Stones/Faces mould with a good time rock n roll sound along with some great keyboards.
Dirty Strangers singer/songwriter Alan Clayton's knows both Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood as both have played with the band on their debut album from 1987.The band split up soon after the release of their 1993 follow up album due to lack of sales and interest
They have played gigs off and on since then.
Keef and Ronnie both appear on the bands recent album 'West 12 To Wittering'.Keith plays piano on 5 tracks and on ‘All Away’ is joined by the legendary Joe Brown playing banjo. Ronnie Wood’s slide guitar is on two tracks, ‘South Of The River’ & ‘Gold Cortina’. Joe Brown’s son Pete produced the album except for ‘Real Botticelli’ (co-written by Keith as was ‘Bad Girls’) which was produced by former Damned founder member, Brian James.
The Dirty Strangers are from my old manor of Shepherds Bush so i know quite a few people here and this was a nicely timed one off show in the middle of the two Rolling Stones shows in Hyde Park so there were a few Rolling Stones t shirts in the crowd hoping for some good guests.
The band are on stage for around 80 mins. The first half is their own songs including 'Another West Side Story','Baby' and great rockin' versions of
'Bad Girls' and 'South Of The River'.
Then we get nice special guests. It is the current Rolling Stones legendary sax player Bobby Keys who plays for the last eight songs of the set and original Damned guitarist Brian James who plays the last four or five songs. Some stunning sax from Bobby Keys on the Gene Vincent and Little Richard covers tonight.
Then they all play the bands recent single 'Real Botticelli'.Their oldie 'Shepherds Bush City Limits' is a cracker and a cover of 'Watcha Gonna Do About It' goes down well.
Macca's son James McCartney was in the crowd.
There were some professional cameras here but i think it will go up on youtube eventually rather than any kind of dvd.
A really good little rock n roll gig.
10 July 2013.I went to three events tonight.
6pm to 7.30pm.Book launch party for 'Cholesterol' by Tony Drury at Davy's Bar And Grill,57 High Holborn,London WC1.

Always nice to be at this plush members club.
A very lively and buzzing atmosphere with a dj playing some decent tunes and complimentary prosecco, cocktails, wines, beers and canapes.
The karaoke room out the back was great fun as i got stuck into a couple of ditties and things got a bit rowdy with a dozen folks all singing to each song even though only two microphones.
An excellent party
All guests got a goodie bag.Visit www.g-star.com
09 July 2013.Where's Wally? (known in the United States and Canada as Where's Waldo?) is a series of children's books created by British illustrator Martin Handford. The books consist of a series of detailed double-page spread illustrations depicting dozens or more people doing a variety of amusing things at a given location. Readers are challenged to find a character named Wally hidden in the group.
Should be renamed Where's Ronnie? as since his split from ex wife Jo Wood,Ronnie Wood has been the gold medal winner for the A list rocker who goes out and about in London's social scene.

08 July 2013.The Who + Vintage Trouble live at Wembley Arena,London.
This was a charity show for REFUGE thats supports victims of domestic abuse.
Up first we have Vintage Trouble from Hollywood, California who have released one studio album 'The Bomb Shelter Sessions'.Their sound has been described as "retro", reminiscent of a number of late 50s and 60s blues and rock artists, such as The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry and The Animals.
They play a really good 30 mins set.Their singer has touches of James Brown. On the big screens they are shown in black and white which looked good.
Will be great to see them play their own show.
I have a nice view in Block A in front of stage.
This show is a visual treat as The Who have six big screens showing classic old footage, images and live action.
They are on stage for 2 hours 15 mins.
THE WHO perform their iconic 1973 double album QUADROPHENIA in its entirety(95 mins) along with a selection of WHO classics(40 mins).
The last of three London shows on this tour.
This is the last night of their world tour that started Nov 2012.
Another classic rock band i have a lot of history with as i have seen them loads of times dating back to Hammersmith Odeon in 1975 and Charlton Football Ground in 1976 when Keith Moon was still alive as the drummer.
The band are fantastic with brass and keyboards and the drummer does a perfect job.Roger's vocals are powerful and Pete throws in a few windmill guitar moves. Some of Quadrophenia is a bit hard going but they do a great job start to finish.
Some fantastic gems played in the hits section.
An excellent show.
A few faces spotted here including Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook,Saxon singer Biff Byford and Harvey Goldsmith.
Full setlist played....

07 July 2013.JLS + The Beach Boys + The Soul Rebels live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
This is The Family Day where you had The Beach Boys and Paul Young for the mums and dads and JLS and The Saturdays for the youngsters.
I got to the venue a bit late as i watched on tv
Andy Murray win his first Wimbledon title and ended Britain's 77-year wait for a men's champion with a hard-fought victory over world number one Novak Djokovic.A fantastic win.
Another really lovely sunny day in Hyde Park.
Last night for The Stones was too rammed but tonight maybe under half full so lots of space to walk around in and get near to the stage as no gold circle is in use today.
Up first on a smaller stage i check out the 45 mins set by The Soul Rebels.
The Soul Rebels started with an idea shared between founding members Derrick Moss and Lumar LeBlanc – to play the music they loved on the radio in the New Orleans Brass Band tradition that they grew up on. Together with a group of young, like-minded players from all over New Orleans, they formed the Soul Rebels and set out to make their mark on the music they love.
They have a great funky percussive brassy sound as they consist of six various brass playing members along with a stand up drummer and stand up percussion player.Really enjoyable set.
Then over to the main stage for The Beach Boys.
The reunion tour with Brian Wilson was mega but sadly they have both gone back to their own respective touring outfits. The Beach Boys play a superb 60 mins set that was ideal for this lovely outdoor weather.Still lots of fab harmonies.
Loads of songs played as they are all 3 mins max.
Do It Again...Catch a Wave...Surfin' Safari...
Surfer Girl...Don't Worry Baby...Little Deuce Coupe...I Get Around...Isn't It Time...California Girls...Then I Kissed Her(The Crystals cover)...
Sloop John B...Wouldn't It Be Nice...God Only Knows...Good Vibrations...Kokomo...Help Me, Rhonda
...Barbara Ann(The Regents cover)...Fun, Fun, Fun
...Encore:..Goin' to the Beach...Surfin' U.S.A....
Boy band JLS are headliners but they only play a 40 mins set.A couple of months ago they said they were splitting up after lots of success over the past five years. They played all their hits along with some nifty dance routines. The youngsters loved it and JLS play a farewell tour of UK arenas in Dec 2013.
Met up with my old muckers Frank and Faith from Shepherds Bush and their friends here for some beers and a boogie in the sunshine.Good fun.
I was in the media room between bands for complimentary beers and ciders.
Photographer GEORGE CHIN was there.

06 July 2013.The Rolling Stones + The Vaccines live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
The Stones back at Hyde Park for the first time in 44 years.and that legendary show of 1969.
Mick Taylor’s first ever gig with the Stones was at the group’s July 1969 concert in Hyde Park. That show was held just two days after the death of former band member Brian Jones.
And Taylor returned to play with them here for a couple of songs tonight.
I have seen them at least once on every tour since those legendary Earls Court shows in the 1970s.
A 65,000 sold out crowd tonight.
A different layout front of stage compared to yesterdays Bon Jovi show here.It is TIER 1,2 and 3.We are in TIER 3 which is General Admission behind TIER 1 and 2 so a lot further back from the stage than last nights fantastic view for Bon Jovi but the main thing is we are inside the venue.
7pm...The Vaccines have had a great 12 months where they have headlined Alexandra Palace and The 02 Arena. They play the best tracks from their two albums over 40 mins and quite a few of the crowd know their songs.Funny how The Stones get the young cool bands to always support them rather rather than any of the other bands that were around from the 1960s or 1970s.
8.25pm...Rolling Stones 1969 Hyde Park Footage.
8.30pm The Rolling Stones for 2 hours to 10.30pm.
It was never gonna be at mega as The 02 Arena shows i saw indoors last year and tonight was a shorter set by 2 or 3 songs but it was still mega.
The first hour was in daylight then darkness fell for the second half which was really good.
The big screens here were just fantastic.
The Rolling Stones came on to fireworks after a montage of footage from their 1969 gig.Two hours mainly of hits starting off with a superb trio of gems 'Start Me Up','It's Only Rock And Roll' and 'Tumbling Dice' and ending with encores of 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' with the choir and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' whilst the crowd were covered in red flower confetti.
So many top notch rock classics played tonight.
Keef n Ronnie on cool guitar swagger duties and Mick full of energy.A really great show from these rock n roll legends.

05 July 2013.Bon Jovi + Kaiser Chiefs + Bush live at The Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park,London.
A lovely sunny day for the first concert of promoter AEG's season here. The whole area of the concert area is twice as nice as it was before.
The stage for all the six Hyde Park gigs here will have a 70 foot oak tree on each side by the pa and 10,000 branches blended in around the stage.
All the food and drink outlets have a nice village feel to them with a splash of colour too.
I get there early as two very good support bands are well worth seeing.
My media wristband gets me complimentary beers and ciders in the media tent during the intervals and for Bush and Kaiser Chiefs i watch from the Gold Circle and for Bon Jovi i am in the Platinum Circle just a dozen yards from Bon Jovi with over 50,000 fans behind me.Fantastic view.
Bush were a UK band who had more success in America than the UK with their 90's grunge rock.

Over 5,500 gigs now seen by me since 1973 covering all genres. I still go to over 100 gigs a year.
