04 Feb 2014...I went to two events tonight...
7pm to 8pm.Protein World Retox drink launch at The May Fair Hotel,London W1.
This was held in the very plush penthouse suite at the top of this quality hotel.
A nice surprise guest here was Arsenal and French International footie player Bacary Sagna.
No doubt taking a breather from his current contact wrangle with Arsenal where he wants his
60k a week salary increased to 70k a week.
Complimentary vodka cocktails, wines ,the new protein drink and lots of sushi for all guests.
www.proteinworld.comCheck their website for more info.
8.30pm to 11pm. The View From The Shard first anniversary party,Joiner Street,London Bridge,London SE1.
My first visit to this amazing building.
London's highest and best view The View is situated at the top of The Shard, on floors 68, 69 and 72, and is almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in London. Visitors enjoy unparalleled 360 degree views for up to 40 miles.
The Lanson bar on the 68 and 69 floor is giving out complimentary Lanson champers, wines, beers and canapés.
I went up to the 72nd floor which is open air and very windy. How did the builders put this up with all the wind?
The London Bridge train station below looked like a toy train set from up here.
The Shard in total is 87 storeys high making it the tallest building in Western Europe.
We had a live act playing a 20 mins set with four or five songs.
Ex Sugababes Mutya Keisha Siobham set included their new single 'Flatline'.
After we had a dj set from Radio 1 dj and Bestival promoter Rob da Bank.
Other guests here included Jenni Falconer and Ashley James.
A really nice event and well worth a visit for the stunning views.
The Shard has its own gift shop too.

02 Feb 2014.Very sad news that Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died of a drugs
overdose in New York aged only 46.
02. Feb 2014---Today is the 35th anniversary of the death of Sex Pistols bass player Sid Vicious who
replaced original Pistols bass player Glen Matlock in 1977.
This weekend in 1980 I was one of 300 punk rockers who gathered in the Sloane Square/Kings Road area
to celebrate the first anniversary of his death.
I met Sid a couple of times back in the day and saw him play with The Sex Pistols in April 1977
and his legendary show with The Vicious White Cats in Aug 1978 when he shared the stage with Glen Matlock.
01 Feb 2014.Family + Babajack live at Shepherds Bush Empire,London.
Family back at the venue where last year i saw them play their first shows for around 40 years.
The shows last year got loads of great five and four star reviews.
Up first are Babajack who played a good blues rock set with tracks from their three albums.
Their female singer Becky was great and played some neat cajon box drum.
The Family show was much the same as last year i think with nine musicians on stage
including Roger Chapman,Jim Cregan,Poli Palmer and Rob Townsend.
Jim Cregan i saw play guitar with Rod Stewart in the 1970s and Jim Cregan
was Rods best man when he married Penny Lancaster.
They were on stage for 1 hour 45 mins.
Like last year it is mainly an older crowd as Family split up in 1973 after releasing 7 albums.
The Family name and their style of blues rock prog has been a bit forgotten over the years
compared to other bands from that era.
Roger Chapman still has a great voice and his stage banter was very entertaining.
Highlights for me were
Drowned In Wine
How Hi The Li
Top Of The Hill
and encores including
My Friend The Sun
A really good show.
Check aftershow page for this gig.
30 Jan 2014...7.15pm to 10pm...

This new club and lounge bar is situated just a 100 yards from Clapham Junction station and The Clapham Grand that still puts on the odd gig.
A simple rectangular space with a bar at each end and seating around the large dance floor space.
BBC Radio 1 dj Sarah Jane Crawford was playing some good dance tunes.
The photographers are taking pictures of half a dozen glammed up females but the only one i knew was Lizzie Cundy.
All guests got a welcome glass of Moet champers then it was complimentary cocktails, presecco, wines, beers and canapes.
A nice vibe here and a good night.
29 Jan 2014...I went to two events tonight.
7.30pm to 8.45pm.Bloggers Love... Secret Garden at Mahiki, 1 Dover Street, London, W1.
As expected is it mainly female fashion bloggers here as half a dozen up and coming

Most were giving out small goodie bags of their accessories.

8.45pm to 12pm.Radio Times Covers Party at Claridges, London W1.
Always nice to be at this famous luxury five star hotel.
Radio Times cover stars from over the last year including Amanda Holden, David Walliams (with Lara Stone in tow), Grayson Perry, Dave Myers, Olivia Colman, Jim Carter, Mary Berry, John Torode and Alex Jones gathered here to toast the long-running publication. They joined celebrities including Leah Totton,Martin Clunes,Tess Daly, Vanessa Feltz, Ola Jordan and Sophie McShera at Claridge's as the magazine celebrated the year by showcasing each of its covers as framed prints which hung from the walls. The London Gay Men's Chorus provided a short musical entertainment.
Around 300 guests enjoyed complimentary champers, wines, beers and lots of different yummy food here.
The fun photo booth in the corner was very popular.
Each guest got a goodie bag with BBC books and BBC tv series dvds and of course a copy of the new Radio Times.
An excellent event.
27 Jan 2014.Depeche Mode live at The LG Arena,Birmingham.
Depeche Mode back in the UK on their massive year long world tour to promote their 13th studio album from last year "Delta Machine".
They played three shows at The 02 Arena in London last year but I did not get along to any of them.
Pretty amazing what a massive live band Depeche Mode are worldwide these days.
Last year they were the 9th biggest grossing live act in the world.
They are the biggest electronic act in the world both as a live act and the fact they have sold
100 million albums/singles in the last 30 plus years.
Another band I have a lot of history with as I have seen them around 20 times with the first time
as a support band way back in 1981.
A nice big arena production with three giant screens and some nice lights.
The floor standing layout meant the hardcore could get down the front.
On stage for two hours with a nice mix of new album tracks and older gems.
Dave Gahan now age 51 is a fantastic frontman who looks amazing as he attracts as many screams from the boys as the girls as he wriggles his bum and shimmys across the stage keen to display his tall slender frame and eventually going topless after shedding his waistcoat.
Martin Gore helped out with vocals on a trio of songs.
Mega highlights for me would have to be oldies 'Personal Jesus' and 'Just Can't Get Enough'.
An excellent show.
Full Depeche Mode setlist played.
Welcome to My World
Walking in My Shoes
Should Be Higher
Policy of Truth
Slow (Acoustic; Sung by Martin Gore )
But Not Tonight (Acoustic; Sung by Martin Gore)
Behind the Wheel
A Pain That I'm Used To
A Question of Time
Enjoy the Silence
Shake the Disease (Acoustic; Sung by Martin Gore)
Just Can't Get Enough
I Feel You
Never Let Me Down Again
27 Jan 2014.Sad news that American folk singing legend and activist Pete Seeger has died age 94.
He was a big influence on the likes of Bruce Springsteen.
25 Jan 2014.Mogwai live at The Royal Festival Hall,London.
Second of two sold out shows by Mogwai at this venue on their world tour to support their new album 'Rave Tapes'.
Now on their eight album Mogwai are one of those bands that do their own thing outside of the mainstream
and have slowly built up a loyal following since the release of their debut album way back in 1997.
On stage for 1 hour 45 mins with the set as expected mainly emotive instrumental rock with only a couple of songs with any type of vocals.Layers of guitar based around the gentle, loud, gentle, loud and a few times very loud style mixed in with electronic synth elements create an intense atmospheric quality sound.
Not really the kind of stuff i would actually buy but i think the good light production here compliments the music well.
However I expected a bigger and better light show and images than we got tonight as the band are pretty faceless
and soundtrack type music needs great visuals.
A decent show.
25 Jan 2014...1.30pm to 3.30pm...
Olympia Music Fair,West London.
The best place to find those rare music items.
You can buy cd and vinyl albums for only a quid right up to hundreds of pounds for the really rare stuff.
I bought a dozen items here today.
Always good to meet up with friends here.
No sign of Jimmy Page who is a regular but his rock photographer mate Ross Halfin is here.
Also here is Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth.
The 60s and 70s rare items get the highest prices but even original vinyl pressings of the first two Oasis albums will set you back around 50 quid plus here.
Best new item I saw was a bootleg box set of Bob Dylan's three shows at The Royal Albert Hall from just a couple
of months ago in Nov 2013.A six disc set with a double cd for each gig.Different cover for each night along with a booklet and mini gig posters.A very nice item but the two stalls selling it wanted 70 and 75 quid.
May be cheaper at the next fair here which is on 26 April 2014.
They also have music fairs all around the UK.
www.vip-24.comCheck their website for full info.
23 Jan 2014....I went to two events tonight...
6pm to 8.15pm.Live music film press screening at Soho Screening Rooms,London W1.
Invite only event at this plush 50 seater room.
The pr folks told everyone not to review the film until it comes out in March
so all i can say is that it was one of the Top 20 shows that i went to last year.
Complimentary beers, wines, coffees and a nice 6 page press pack for all.
A great live concert film.
8.30pm to 9.30pm.Rich Hardcastle: 'Dark Tale' - private view
at Mead Carney Gallery , 45 Dover Street, London, W1.
Complimentary wines and beers for all guests.
Guests here included top male model David Gandy and a nice surprise to see Gaye Advert from
1970s punk rock group The Adverts.
www.meadcarney.comCheck out their website for info on the exhibition.
22 Jan 2014...12.30pm to 4pm...
The National Fish And Chip Awards at The Lancaster Hotel,Lancaster Gate,London W2.
Now in its 26th year, the National Fish And Chip Awards continue to be the most prestigious
event for everyone involved in sourcing, producing and selling the nation's fave dish.
Sadly missed the drinks reception that started at 11.30am due to a person under the train.
The event was hosted by French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.
Around 500 folks here for a fish based three course lunch along with some wines and coffee.
The Scottish Taster Plate starters of smoked haddock, smoked salmon, crab cake and Atlantic prawns was lovely.
The mains was Roasted Norwegian Cod.
We were seated at the table of POPPIES Fish And Chip Restaurant.
Without doubt they are the coolest fish and chip restaurants in London as
their Spitalfields branch has a 1940s theme to it and their Camden branch has live bands.
Yes a fish and chip restaurant that puts on live bands.
For New Years Eve they had Chas from Chas and Dave perform.
They picked up the Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year Award.
6-8 Hanbury Street,Spitalfields,London E1 6QR.
30 Hawley Cresent,Camden,London NW1 8NP.
www.poppiesfishandchips.co.ukCheck out their website for more info.
A family-run takeaway on the Yorkshire coast was named the UK's best fish and chip shop.
Quayside in Whitby won the flagship award as well as the award for marketing innovation.
Judges commended the Fusco family, who own the shop, for their "commitment and determination".

5pm to 6.30pm.Schwarzkopf Press Day at The Ice Tank,Grape Street,London WC2.
Top hair brand launches some new products.
As expected it is a 90% female crowd here.
The girls can get complimentary hair styling and get their nails done.
Some complimentary coffees and canapes for all.
All guests got a nice goodie bag with a dozen of their products in.
7.30pm to 11.15pm.Fuerzabruta - VIP night at The Roundhouse,London, NW1.
Very popular Argentinian effects based theatre show back at this venue for a two month stint that runs until 02 March 2014.
Pretty much the same 75 mins production as the one i saw here last year.
The main part of the show is the giant clear perspex sheet above the crowd that gets lowered down as you watch the six females and two males splash about above you.
A bit naughty as the girls are in just knickers and a loose shirt exposing boobies every now and then.
Lots of folks on wires running through the air and making wild noises.
Lots of wind machines and confetti used tonight.
It is the sort of thing that would go down a treat at The Glastonbury Festival.
A very unique enjoyable show.
Tonight we had a guest water baby splashing about above us who was Sadie Frost.
Out VIP wristbands got us free booze before, during and after the show.
The aftershow was on to midnight and we were there 9.30pm to 11.15pm.
Those that attended the event and afterparty included host Sadie Frost,Kate Moss,Carl Barat, Professor Green,Millie Mackintosh, Daisy Lowe,Terry Gilliam and Arlene Phillips,
Jodie Harsh was the dj.
21 Jan 2014..6.45pm to 11pm...
Relaunch of SixtyOne Restaurant at The Montcalm Hotel,Marble Arch,London W1.
Very nice five star hotel has a relaunch event for their restaurant and bar.
Enter via the 61 Upper Berkeley Street entrance or the hotel entrance.
Some complimentary taster bowl dishes with three different starters, three different mains and three different desserts to have along with cocktails, wines and beers.
The food and service here was really good.
At 9.30pm the restaurant area was closed down and we were ushered
in to the cosy bar next door.

19 Jan 2014.
Cirque du Soleil---Quidam live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
World famous Cirque Du Soleil back in London for their yearly stint at this venue from early Jan to Mid Feb.
Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a "dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment". It is the largest theatrical producer in the world.
Around 45 performers on stage through the evening with a dozen or so different acts.
Lots of great costumes and vibrant colours.
We had the clowns as usual all through the show between acts with some fun audience particpation in the second half.
There were acrobats,a giant yo-yo routine, some fancy juggling, extreme group skipping,a slim small bendy blonde on the red drapes was great as were the body to body lifting in slow motion routine.
Also some trapeze and a rope display fivesome.
Sadly there was nothing as thrilling as the Wheel Of Death from last years Kooza show
but overall still enjoyable.
The full live band performed a neat drum based soundtrack.
The show is on until 16 Feb.
18 Jan 2014...BEATLES NEW BOX SET LOOKS VERY NICE...
A new Beatles box set due out this month will reissue all 13 of the band's American albums, including five that have never been available on CD before. The collection will arrive on January 21st as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Beatles' first trip to the United States.
Capitol Records has compiled the set, titled The U.S. Albums, beginning with Meet the Beatles from 1964 and ending with 1970's Hey Jude. The U.S versions of Beatles LPs often have different track lists, mixes, titles and art from the U.K. versions of the same records. The American versions of A Hard Day's Night, Yesterday and Today and Revolver, the U.S.-only compilation Hey Jude and the 1964 audio commentary album The Beatles' Story had never been issued on CD before.

The box set will also include a 64-page booklet, and all of the albums aside from Hey Jude and The Beatles' Story will come in mono and stereo. Each of the CDs (aside from The Beatles' Story) will also be available for individual purchase for a limited time
17 Jan 2014.Dacoda live at Burnham Park Hall,Burnham,Bucks.
Burnham is 3 miles from Slough via Junction 7 of the M4.
This million pound community centre opened a couple of years ago and now they
are starting to put on gigs once a month.
As it is a free entry for all gig the 250 capacity venue is full.
Slough band Dacoda played mainly mod and ska covers over their two hours on stage over two sets with a couple of tracks each by the likes of The Specials,Madness,The Jam,Paul Weller,
Elvis Costello,UB40,Oasis,Kinks,Amy Winehouse,Van Morrison and others including some more current tracks like 'Blurred Lines' and 'Get Lucky'.
The singer had a good voice and he got the crowd dancing more in the second set.
A decent enough evening.
Another covers band will play here on Friday 07 Feb 2014.
Again it will be free entry.
16 Jan 2014...7pm to 10.30pm...
King of Shaves: Hyperglide - launch party at
Sketch, 9 Conduit Street, London W1.
King Of Shaves launch their water activated self-lubricated cartridge
razor that creates it's own Hydrogel, allowing the user to shave by simply just adding water.
We have an introduction by owner Will King and a film presentation.
However, beneath the swagger of one of the original dot-com entrepreneurs (he famously bought ‘Shave.com’ for £35 in 1995 – enough to qualify him as a dot-com entrepreneur back then), King is cautious. Last night, he launched a new razor, having spent £6m and five years developing brand new technology, a product he says could be his ‘iPhone moment’.
That said, it’s been a tough few years for the self-styled King of Shaves: last year, King had to spend over £1m on legal fees to patent his new product and protect his existing razors. In 2011, he rejected an offer for the business from Spectrum Brands, owner of Remington, which press reports at the time claimed valued the business at around £45m. A fall-out with Spectrum ensued, and since then, King has been unable to sell his products in the US, where the company had 40% of its sales. To make things worse, beards are in vogue and razor sales are down.
We have a live act as Los Angeles soft soul female trio KING play a four song 15 mins set.Yes they have been flown over just because of their band name. They were pretty average as they did not have enough impact for half the crowd to stop chatting.
The band are mentored/managed by Prince.
Shame it was not the 80's UK band of the same name playing.
Then we had a dj set by Chicane.
Yet again performance artist Pandemonia is here floating about
in her head to toe Lady Gaga latex/rubber creation.
Lots of complimentary Pommery champers and different cocktails all night along with burgers, fish n chips and canapes.
Lots of folks here i knew and a really enjoyable event.
The razor and one cartridge/blade retail for £9.99.
They were handing out some complimentary ones here so i picked up three of them.
It does look very sleek i must say so hopefully gives a good shave.
www.shave.comCheck their website here for more info.
15 Jan 2014...I went to three events all in East London today...
5.15pm to 8pm
Brooklyn Bowl showcase party for press and friends of AEG at
Brooklyn Bowl, The O2 Arena Complex,Peninsula Square, London, SE10.
This new venue is located next to the British Music Experience at The 02 Arena complex.
A small entrance leads to a massive space with a full stage, bowling area, bars, restaurant etc.
We had a full complimentary three course dinner with drinks including cocktails, beers and a milkshake.
The menu and vibe has a Hard Rock Cafe feel to it with the music played loudly in the background but no band memorabilia on display.
The portions here are massive.
We had a game of bowling but a bit tricky on a full stomach.
Will be interesting what type of bands will play here.
A really enjoyable place to visit.
Maroon 5 had their aftershow party here at the weekend just gone.
Brooklyn Bowl, the acclaimed NYC nightlife destination hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the most incredible places on earth," is set to launch its first UK outpost at The O2 Arena complex in London. The 800-capacity venue(500 on the floor in front of the stage and 300 around the other areas) will feature 12 lanes of bowling -three of which are elevated in a private party area with its own bar - and food by the famed Bromberg Bros. Blue Ribbon Restaurants.
Although the lineup for the venue is yet to be announced, since its launch in 2009, the original New York site has hosted acts ranging from Kanye West, Haim, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, James Murphy, Adele, Guns N' Roses, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello,Snoop Dogg and N.E.R.D.
"When thinking of another city that's as influential on global culture as New York, there's only one that immediately stands out," Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro said in a statement, "And that, of course, is London. We're thrilled to be bringing the Bowl's unique and multi-pronged vibe to what really is the most important city in the world."
then 8.45pm to 9.45pm
Adidas - Stan Smith Global relaunch party at The Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London, E1.
Adidas Originals has brought back the legendary Stan Smith trainer.
A young and cool crowd here with a dj playing dance tunes.
They had fried chicken and chips here but declined as still full up.
We had a couple of complimentary cocktails and then moved on.
then 10pm to 1am
NBA London live - launch party at SUSHISAMBA, Heron Tower, 110 Bishopsgate, London, EC2.
At last i get along to an event at SUSHISAMBA which is one of the main Sushi destinations in London.
A massive party over the three floors of the venue that is around 40
floors high up with stunning views over the city.
Some of the players are here.
Other guests here included footie legend Edgar Davids who i think is still player-manager at English League Two club Barnet.
He was capped 74 times by the Netherlands at international level.
Also here turning up pretty late(like us he was at the Adidas bash earlier) was actor Idris Elba who has the lead role in the recent Nelson Mandela film.
NBA are over here for their annual Basketball game at the 02 Arena which is being held the following night.I went to the game last year.
This year the teams are Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets.
Someone here tonight told me Paul McCartney is due to attend.
Lots of complimentary cocktails, beers and wines for all.
There is no Sushi tonight but there is lots of Black Cod,Burgers,Fish and Chips and loads of desserts.
The dj is keeping things lively.
All guests got a goodie bag with an NBA t-shirt and NBA cap.
An excellent event.
12 Jan 2014.
Gene Simmons wagged his trademark tongue as an all-glammed-up KISS swept down the John Varvatos runway in an unannounced appearance during Milan Fashion Week at the weekend.
The band that brought glam to rock decades ago gave a burst of energy to the Varvatos’ rock-inspired menswear preview for next winter bringing the normally restrained fashion crowd to its feet to “Rock and Roll All Nite.”
Simmons said fashion for him is “to be an individual and not to be a lemming.”
Varvato’s designs have that “rock persona,” Simmons said, adding “if he wasn’t designing clothes, he’d have a guitar around his neck.”
Visit the KISS website link on the right for pictures from the event.

04 Jan 2014....Another sad music loss....
US musician Phil Everly, one half of the Everly Brothers, has died, aged 74, in California, his family says.
Everly died in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank of complications from lung disease, his wife, Patti, told the Los Angeles Times.
"We are absolutely heartbroken," she said, adding that the disease was the result of a lifetime of smoking.
Phil Everly and his brother Don made up the Everly Brothers, one of the biggest pop acts of the 1950s and early 1960s.
They had a string of close-harmony hits including 'Wake Up Little Suzie', 'Cathy's Clown', 'Bye Bye Love', and 'All I Have To Do Is Dream'.
I saw them live around seven or eight times.
On one tour the support act was Duane Eddy.

The UK's #1 Gig-Goer
In November 2008 the BBC confirmed me as the UK's number one gig-goer. The jacket was a gig-going prize from Q Magazine a few years ago. I do not wear it outside of the house let alone out to gigs!
Over 5,500 gigs now seen by me since 1973 covering all genres. I still go to over 100 gigs a year.
