Saturday 15 October 2016.
Steel Panther + Bowling For Soup + Buck Cherry live at Wembley Arena,London.
Steel Panther I have seen a few times including when they were a support act a few years ago.
I do not remember ever seeing Bowling For Soup.
I saw Buck Cherry three times in 1999 when their debut album came out including twice when
they supported KISS on their European Tour - Bercy Arena Paris and Wembley Arena.
-----------------------------------
Another one of those great three band rock packages from promoters Live Nation.
Most of the crowd have arrived early to see at least one of the supports.
A few empty blocks at the back but still a healthy 90% of tickets sold.
Quite a few fans have dressed up in 1980s hair metal outfits complete with spiky wigs.
BUCK CHERRY....I sadly missed their short 30 mins set.
BOWLING FOR SOUP arrived on stage at 7.50pm and played for 50 mins.
Bowling For Soup are dressed in those long shorts that I wouldn't be seen dead in.
They are more punk rock than hard rock and don't take themselves that seriously.
Lots of funny chat between songs that took up pretty much half their set.
The crowd knew a lot of their songs so they went down well.
Full setlist played tonight...
Girl All the Bad Guys Want
High School Never Ends
Ohio (Come Back to Texas)
Stacy's Mom (Fountains of Wayne cover)
Punk Rock 101
1985 (SR‐71 cover)
-----------------------------------
During the interval there is a great bunch of classic rock anthems played over the PA to warm up the crowd.
STEEL PANTHER arrived on stage at 9.10pm and played for 1 hour 50 mins set.
A nice stage production with lots of lights,a couple of staircases and podiums...but no big screens.
The band are dressed like their hair metal heroes of the 1980s with spandex etc.
There are plenty of Spinal Tap type hair metal references in the show.
There are plenty of very lewd lyrics about women and sex...Donald Trump would love it.
Having said that there are plenty of rock chicks here really getting into it.
The band ask for the girls to "show their boobies'' and a few do.
They get a German female fan on stage for some audience participation which was good fun.
Also for the last four songs of the main set they ask a blunt request "can we have some pussy up on stage"
and within seconds there are 30 rock chicks on stage dancing away which was fun to watch.
They have plenty of great songs including "Asian Hooker','Community Property' and
'Death To All But Metal'.
A really enjoyable show.
Full setlist played tonight...
Intro tape...I Love It Loud (KISS song)
Eyes of a Panther
Just Like Tiger Woods
Party Like Tomorrow Is the End of the World
Asian Hooker
Turn Out the Lights
Let Me Cum In
Guitar Solo..featuring classic guitar riffs from the 1970s and 1980s.
It Won't Suck Itself
She's on the Rag
Girl From Oklahoma
17 Girls in a Row
Gloryhole
Community Property
Death to All but Metal
Encore:
Fat Girl (Thar She Blows)
Party All Day (Fuck All Night)

Friday 14 October 2016...I went to two events in Liverpool Street area tonight...
6pm to 7.30pm
MASONIC TEMPLE - showcase - Andaz Hotel,40 Liverpool Street,London EC1.
Nice to be at this plush five star hotel right next door to the main train station.
For decades, staff at the Great Eastern Hotel regularly walked past an inconspicuous looking wall, unaware of what lay behind it. During construction, someone looking at the blueprints noticed there was an additional room that had long been kept a secret… but what was it?
Once the wall was demolished, the heavy studded doors that lay behind parted to reveal an opulent combination of Italian marble and checked floors. Descending the temple’s spiral staircase provided a better view of the stunning blue dome ceiling with gold zodiac detail, regal thrones and organ.
Built in 1912 by Charles Barry Junior (the son of Charles Barry, the architect responsible for the Houses of Parliament’s design), the Grade ll-listed Greek Masonic Temple was where Freemasons attended their Lodge meetings. The Temple was first chaired by the Queen’s cousin, Grand Master Duke of Connaught. Above the thrones is the Latin inscription, “Avdi veda tace” (Hear, see, keep counsel).
This stunning room can hold up to 60 people for private event receptions and Christmas parties.
We have some of the actors from the 'Murder Mystery' team dressed up in full costumes.
Complimentary presecco, cocktails, bowl food and canapés for all guests.

Tropicana Beach Club is a new one-stop destination venue promising to transport you to an oasis of paradise where summer is celebrated all year round. Monday 10 October 2016...7.15pm to 12pm..
BMI London Awards feat STING - The Dorchester Hotel, 55 Park Lane, London, W1.
This awards event celebrates songwriters from Europe who have done well in America.
I went to this awards event in 2013 when John Lydon got The Icon Award.
He invited all the members of PIL to it but none of the other Sex Pistols.
Around 300 folks seated and 20 standing(I was one of them) tonight at this famous hotel.
Guests included Snow Patrol,Rudimental,Howard Jones,Hozier,Trevor Horn,Chumbawamba and
legendary songwriter Don Black.
Also here was actor Michael Keaton whose son was here to pick up a songwriting award.
I got a nice photo with Michael Keaton.
Sting arrives at the end of the drinks reception and is chatty to all the press folks.
None of the other members of The Police are here and neither is his wife or his long time
guitar player in his solo band Dominic Miller and his agent John Giddings is not here.
Around 25 awards here given out fairly quickly with no speeches apart from Sting.
Pretty amazing to see Chumbawamba here to pick up an award for 3 million plays on American
radio for their 1997 hit single 'Tubthumping'.
No One Is Too Blame---Howard Jones is here to pick up an award for 3 million plays of his
biggest hit in America which got to number four over there.
Chasing Cars---Snow Patrol are here to pick up an award for 4 million plays in America.
Robin Gibbs wife Dwina and his son RJ are here to pick up an award for a Bee Gees song.
Two special awards for two of the most played songs ever on American Radio.
Brown Eyed Girl---Van Morrison - 12 million plays...Van not here...
Every Breath You Take---Sting - 13 million plays.
Elton John and Ray Davies get a couple of awards each for multi-million plays of their hits
but are not here and awards are picked up by their publishers.
The big music publishers Sony/ATV and Warner Chappell dominate tonight.
Sting is here to collect The Icon Award.
Sting gets a nice full introduction based on his career and a full video tribute.
Sting has had a pretty amazing career as The Police were one of the biggest acts of the 1980s
and his solo career along with his acting career and humanitarian causes are impressive.
At 11pm Sting plays three songs with an acoustic guitar.
He dedicated new track 'Heading South On The Great North Road' to fellow artists
from the North East who had come down to London to seek their fame & fortune as he mentioned
Eric Burdon,Bryan Ferry,Brian Johnson,Jimmy Nail and others.
These were the three tracks performed with Sting getting the crowd to sing along to the two big Police hits.
Message In A Bottle
Heading South On The Great North Road
Every Breath You Take

A very nice event.

Sunday 09 October 2016.
King Of Pop Show live at The Swan Theatre,High Wycombe,Bucks.
Starring NAVI and featuring JENNIFER BATTEN.
Back again at this venue for the second time in three days.
I saw Killing Joke and Joy Division at the nearby Town Hall,High Wycombe in 1980.
NAVI is universally recognised as "The World's No.1 Michael Jackson Impersonator" throughout the world, including the Michael Jackson fan community itself. The ONLY impersonator to officially work for Michael Jackson as a decoy and the ONLY impersonator to perform for Michael Jackson at his birthday party.
From 1987 to 1997 JENNIFER BATTEN played in all three of Michael Jackson's world tours,
'Bad', 'Dangerous' and 'History' and from 1999 to 2001 she toured and recorded with Jeff Beck.
(She was the blonde with the big hair).
I saw Michael Jackson live at four of his big outdoor shows in the UK.
---------------------------------
I have seen Navi perform his really good tribute show once before but this time he has managed
to get Jennifer Batten along for this twelve date UK tour...No show in London which I presume is
because the MJ based musical 'Thriller' is still playing up The West End.
A nice stage production with lots of lights,a big screen showing MJ photos and videos and
three dancers (2 male and one female).
A mixed age crowd here including lots of youngsters in the crowd.
Navi and his band were on stage for two hours over two sets of 60 mins.
Navi looks, talks, dances and sings like Michael Jackson and has some amusing stage banter.
The setlist is all the best tracks from Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5.
As expected Jennifer Batten does not appear on stage for the entire show.
Jennifer still looks the same and plays some mean guitar to big cheers from the crowd.
Jennifer told a couple of stories on touring with Michael Jackson.
She appeared on six classic songs - four and the end of the first set and two at the end of the second set.
Beat It
Black or White
Bad
Dirty Diana
Thriller
Man In The Mirror
A very entertaining & enjoyable show.

Sunday 09 October 2016.
It is the first weekend of The Desert Trip shows in America.
Friday, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14: The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan
Saturday, Oct. 8 and Oct. 15: Paul McCartney and Neil Young
Sunday, Oct. 9 and Oct. 16: Roger Waters and The Who
Desert Trip will take place at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California (the same place as Coachella).
Indio is in California's Colorado Desert if you’re really serious about geography.
Lots of Rolling Stones videos are up on YouTube from the event.
All the other acts will also be up on YouTube eventually.
I have seen all six acts many times each indoors.

Saturday 08 October 2016.
Craig David completes an amazing comeback.
Craig David has scored his first UK Number One album in 16 years with 'Following My Intuition'.
He beat off Bon Iver's latest LP '22, A Million' by just 4,500 copies. It is his first album chart topper since
his debut 'Born To Do It' in 2000.
Craig has been hiding away in Miami for a few years but the last year has seen him return to
gradually starting with playing small venues then bigger ones like Brixton Academy and next year his
UK arena tour includes two nights at The 02 Arena.

Friday 07 October 2016.

becoming the only person to receive the television tribute three times.
--------------------------------
Petula and her five piece band are on stage for 1 hour 50 mins over two sets.
The band include a piano player and Petula played a couple of songs on it.
Petula was standing up the rest of the time...pretty good going for an 83 year old...
Not many can say they have been around for several decades.
A nice mix of classic oldies, covers and newer material.

The fashion boutique hosted the event at its Old Bond Street, celebrating the range, called My Mother Was A Reeler, which is inspired by the familes who worked at the Coats thread mill in Scotland. DAVE EVANS (first vocalist of AC/DC - pre-Bon Scott) and Band live at The Underworld,Camden,London.
Dave Evans was a member of the band for less than ten months before officially being replaced by Bon Scott in October 1974. During his time with AC/DC, Evans recorded one single, a Young/Young composition ("Can I Sit Next To You, Girl"/ "Rocking in the Parlour") which was released in Australia and New Zealand. A low-budget promotional video for the demo was also shot. The video can be seen on YouTube.
He played a few shows in the UK in 2012 but i did not get along that time.
By coincidence another AC/DC ex singer Brian Johnson celebrates his 69th birthday today.
-----------------------------------------
Dave Evans and Band arrive on stage at 9.45pm and play for around 75 mins.
Amazingly there are only 70 or 80 people here at this great club venue.
One of my gig going mates Matt is here and told me "the only place I saw the gig mentioned was on
this website www.raysgigs.com" but AC/DC are a massive band and although Dave Evans has not got
the clout of Bon Scott or Brian Johnson he is part of early AC/DC history.
Dave said this is the last show on a 3 month European club tour.
The band are giving it 100% and as expected there are a few AC/DC classics in the set.
A good show.

PAD is London’s leading fair for 20th Century art, design and decorative arts.
The fair has already enjoyed 20 years of success in its native Paris and now celebrates 10 years in London.
A massive crowd here of around 800 smartly dressed folks from the art world.
It is FRIEZE week in London so all the mayor art galleries are holding events over the next few days.
Downton Abbey star Daisy Lewis joined key figures from the worlds of fashion, art, sport and music - including Stephen Webster, Sol Campbell, Dougie Field and Kelly Hoppen - to mark the ten year milestone of PAD London in Mayfair. Afterparty for PAD London - Annabel's,Berkeley Square ,Mayfair,London W1.
Over 200 folks walk across the road to the PAD afterparty at this famous venue.
I spot Sol Campbell and Oswald Boatang but hard to see any others as it's busy and totally buzzing.
Lots of very yummy complimentary food and drinks here including different hot and cold canapés,
bowl food, desserts along with Ruinart champers and wines.
The dj spun some 1970s and 1980s classics that got the dance floor packed.
We had a fun boogie for an hour or so.
Dancing at Annabel's on a Monday night...a great party...

Sunday 02 October 2016.
The Animals + Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers live at The Theatre Royal,Windsor.
Only original member of The Animals is drummer John Steel who is now aged 75.
On keyboards is Mickey Gallagher who replaced Alan Price in 1965.
He later joined Ian Dury & The Blockheads and is still with The Blockheads.
He played keyboards on The Clash 'London Calling' album.
They had seven Top 10 hits in the UK between 1964 - 1966.
with support from another 1960s act Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers.
They were the first London band to be signed by The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein.
In early 1966, the band was the opening act for The Beatles on their final European tour.
Their innovative brass sound introduced British youth to soul music.
They were the first British band to be signed to the Motown label.
They still feature Cliff Bennett on vocals at the age of 76.
They had two Top 10 hits in the UK in 1965.
-----------------------------
This cosy all seated old theatre i would say is around 50% tickets sold out of a 633 capacity.
I have a great view in the front stalls.
Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers arrived on stage at 7.30pm and played for around 50 mins.
A rare show from Cliff Bennett who does not play much these days.
They were one of the 1960s most under-rated bands.
They have seven members on stage including sax and trumpet and sounded fantastic.
Cliff Bennett still has a decent soul voice and they had that white soul sound that would
later be copied by the likes of other bands and The Commitments film.
Cliff was quite funny (and a bit x rated) between songs.
To be honest i think I preferred them to the headliners.
Knock On Wood...cover
One Way Love...a Top 10 hit for Cliff Bennett in 1965
I'll Take You Home
We're Gonna Make it
Soul Man...cover
Barefootin'...cover
Got To Get You Into My Life...Beatles cover that was a Top 10 hit for Cliff Bennett in 1965
Encore
Hold On I'm Coming...cover
----------------------------
The Animals arrived on stage at 8.45pm and played for around 70 mins.
They played all seven of their Top 10 hits along with some cover versions.
Some nice keyboard playing featured in many of the songs.
The singer did a decent job.
John Steel told a couple of stories from the 1960s.
The seven hits were...
It's My Life
I'm Crying
Bring It On Home To Me
Don't Bring Me Down
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place
Encore
The House Of The Rising Sun...a number one hit for them in UK,America and Canada.

01 / 02 October 1976....40 years ago this weekend...
All girl Californian rock band The Runaways played their debut London shows at The Roundhouse.
I was at both these great gigs as i had their debut album.
The band members included Joan Jett, Lita Ford and Cherie Currie.
Check out their best known track 'Cherry Bomb' on YouTube.

Saturday 01 October 2016.
20 years ago this weekend Arsene Wenger joined Arsenal and he is still there.
Pretty amazing considering how managers come and go so quickly these days.

Friday 30 September 2016...I went to two events tonight...
6.30pm to 8pm
OPAL BAR - showcase - Hungerford House ,Victoria Embankment,London WC2.
This large venue is right next to Embankment tube station.
Handy to pop in here before crossing the bridge for an event at The RF Hall/ Southbank Centre.
It has space for around 200 on each of the two levels with plenty of room for dancing.
It is pretty much a bar and club rolled in to one that also serves food.
Special offers on Happy Hour cocktails.
You can have your Christmas Party here.
3 course Christmas Menu from £20 per person.
Tonight guests enjoyed complimentary Cava, wines and some nice food including small plates and canapés.

then
SHARKS live at The Borderline,London W1.
Chris Spedding and his early 1970’s band Sharks reform for their first UK tour in 40 years.
Sharks still feature three members from the 1970s in their line-up.
Their new album ‘Killers of the Deep’ will be available on vinyl at the gig tonight for £20
but the cd version is not available until early 2017.
They have only reformed once or twice for re-union shows in the last 40 years.
The single ‘One Last Thrill’ will be released today.
Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook will be drumming for them on this tour.
---------------------------
Nice to see a full house here as a couple of provincial gigs were cancelled due to lack of sales.
Folks here here included Glen Matlock and rock photographer Ross Halfin who I think
took the pictures for their new album cover.
Lots of folks here i know which was nice.
A mainly older crowd here as expected as the bands main period was the early 1970s.
Sharks arrive on stage at 8.45pm and play for around 60 mins.
The band play a nice mix of older tracks and tracks from the new album.
Snips on vocals is a great front man with hints of Jagger and Lydon attitude.
Chris Spedding is playing lots of nifty guitar riffs.
Sex Pistol Paul Cook is clearly enjoying himself as he gets stuck in behind the kit.
Paul like Glen Matlock has a few music projects ongoing these days between Sex Pistols tours.
An enjoyable show.
Setlist included
Ya Ya Pop (check out the fun video on YouTube from last weeks Kings Cross event)
Sophistication
Cocaine Blues
Snakes and Swallowtails
One Last Thrill (new single)

Thursday 29 September 2016.
DAVID GILMOUR live at The Royal Albert Hall,London.
David Gilmour returns to The Royal Albert Hall to play another five shows.
David is spoiling us in London as his 2015/2016 world tour for his 'Rattle That Lock' album
now means he will be playing 11 shows at this legendary venue in total.
These shows are the last dates on his world tour.
I went to four of the previous six shows including one with an amazing front row centre view.
-----------------------------------
I am back to see David Gilmour for the second time this week as part of his stint here.
That means i have seen him three times last year and three times this year on this tour.
Again it is totally sold out and there are foreign accents all over the place.
In front of me in the guest list queue is singer Marc Almond.
Also floating around here was tonight's keyboard player Kevin McAlea.
A fan asked him to sign his David Gilmour tour programme but he surprisingly declined.
David Gilmour is not keen on signing autographs so perhaps he has told the band not to sign anything.
Kevin played keyboards for Kate Bush at Hammersmith Apollo for her stint there in 2014.
I pick up my yellow wristband with a nice view in a Level 1 box complete with complimentary drinks
and snacks all night and access to more comp drinks in the hospitality bar downstairs during the interval.
Also everyone in the box gets a complimentary tour programme.
It is another mega night with a totally stunning show.
Again it is 2 hours 50 mins on stage over two sets but the interval is 30 mins and not 20 mins like on
Sunday so the show finished later at 11.10pm rather than 11pm.
David says "Welcome to this nice room, home from home".
The Pink Floyd tracks get the biggest cheers and there are loads of classics played as usual.
The second half of the show is pretty breathtaking from start to finish.
Fantastic guitar playing from David Gilmour all night against the backdrop of superb visuals.
I have seen around 100 live music events this year and this show was right up there amongst the best.
Maybe Bruce Springsteen at Wembley was tops so far but this is a close second.
I even bought a decent bootleg t-shirt outside with all this weeks tour dates on for a mere £5.
An odd thing happened tonight by the mixing desk area.
A slightly worse for wear punter with pint of lager was pestering one of the guys by the mixing desks.
The mixing desk guy warned him three times "don't hold your lager over the mixing desk".
The mixing guy then suddenly slapped the lager out of his hand which went over half a dozen punters.
This mixing guy was a foot shorter than the punter and a lot older but of course security was nearby.
Security took the guy out so not sure what happened to him.
During the show I watched the guy at the mixing desk as he was making arm gestures and
waving as if he was some sort of light show conductor. He looked a bit of a plonker.
Keep an eye on him if you are going on Friday.

Thursday 28 September 2016.
Happy Birthday to Jerry Lee Lewis who is 81 today.

Thursday 28 September 2016.
Kate Bush is to release a new live album, taken from the singer's 22-show run at London's Hammersmith Apollo in 2014.
Billed as The KT Fellowship rather than as a solo Bush release, 'Before The Dawn' is out on November 25.
It is available as a 3CD or 4LP set.

Thursday 28 September 2016.
Another musician sadly passes away.
Mike 'Taffy' Taylor, the former vocalist for Quartz, sadly passed away on September 27th 2016.
Quartz were a rock band that played many shows in the late 1970s.
I saw them play three times in 1979/1980.
They supported Black Sabbath on one tour.

Wednesday 27 September 2016.
Rolling Stones historic concert in Cuba earlier this year is to be released.
Fans will get the chance to own the package when Havana Moon is released on on DVD, Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, DVD/3LP, Digital Video, Digital Audio plus special Deluxe Edition on November 11.
For some reason it is five songs short of the actual show.
Dropped from the show for the DVD are ‘Tumbling Dice’, ‘All Down The Line’, ‘Before They Make You Run’,
'Miss You’ and ‘Start Me Up’.

Wednesday 27 September. 2016.
