Saturday 03 November 2018...3pm to 5pm...
READING 3 BRISTOL CITY 2....a great game with lots of goals.
Bristol City brought their full quota of 2300 fans with them.
There was a minutes silence for those killed in the helicopter crash last weekend in Leicester.
Reading hung on in the closing minutes to beat Bristol City and ease the pressure on manager Paul Clement.
The Royals secured their victory with Leandro Bacuna's second-half strike after the visitors came from behind twice before the interval in an end-to-end game at the Madejski Stadium.
Yakou Meite and a long-range Liam Kelly shot put the hosts in front on two occasions, but their efforts were cancelled out by Marlon Pack and Josh Brownhill for the Robins.
But Mo Barrow's return to the starting line-up proved vital and the midfielder motored down the left wing to provide the winner for Bacuna.

Saturday 03 November 2018.
Happy Birthday to LULU who is 70 today.

THE FEELING + HOLIDAY SIDEWINDER live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
The Feeling play a sold out show in London at the end of their UK tour.
The Feeling have released five studio albums.
This UK tour is celebrating 12 years since their debut album came out.
On 5 June 2006, The Feeling released their debut album,' Twelve Stops and Home' , which reached #2 in the UK Albums Chart. To celebrate the release, the band's record company, Island Records, took 120 British music journalists on the Eurostar to Paris for the day, where the band performed live in a restaurant. This was in recognition of the fact the band took their name from a Parisian bar.
The first single, "Sewn" reached #7 on the UK charts in March 2006, followed by the top ten hit "Fill My Little World" in May 2006. The release spent four consecutive weeks at #16 and outsold the band's debut single. "Never Be Lonely" was released in August 2006 and became their third top ten hit, peaking at #9, where it stayed for two weeks.
In an e-mail newsletter released on 11 January 2007, it was announced that The Feeling was the most played band on UK radio in 2006. Their four singles received a total of 97,436 plays, which meant that, on average, a song by The Feeling was played 267 times every day, or once every 5 minutes.
The Feelings singer Dan Gillespie Sells has had success in the West End with his musical
'Everybody's Talking About Jamie'.
I have seen The Feeling three or four times before.
HOLIDAY SIDEWINDER arrived on stage at 8pm and played for 30 mins.
Holiday Sidewinder is an Australian indie pop singer-songwriter.
She sung vocals and had a male electric guitarist.
A tinny electro pop set that was not really my cup of tea.
THE FEELING arrived on stage at 9.05pm and played for 90 mins.
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor is here as she is married to Richard Jones (The Feeling bassist).
The setlist featured all of their debut album in the main set along with a couple of tracks
that didn't make the album at the time.
Loads of loud snging from the crowd for the big radio friendly hit singles which are very catchy.
They never replicated the success of the this album's bunch of hit singles.
An enjoyable show.
Full setlist played by The Feeling tonight...
Fill My Little Fanfare
I Want You Now
Never Be Lonely
Fill My Little World

Top tier interior design house Taylor Howes is marking 25 years in business by launching its first ever stand-alone collection of furniture, with a pop-up exhibition at its Knightsbridge studio.
Called “Love at Dusk”, the very high-end capsule collection runs to just 13 statement pieces, which bumf says evoke “an underlying structure of perfect proportion and immaculate symmetry, enriched through the poetics of colour, exceptional craftsmanship and exquisite materials.” This venture follows the launch of a lighting collection back in 2014, created by Taylor Howes for the Urban Electric Co.
The studio space is hidden down a small street around three minutes across the road from Harrods.
Over 100 guests here over the two levels of this smart contemporary space.
It was a bit of a last supper for us as my friend goes back to Argentina this weekend.
He has been coming to London for six months of the year for around 35 years.
He focuses on the parties rather than gigs.
At 7.30pm we had a speech from the owners.
Complimentary Pommery champers, three different cocktails and tasty canapés.
Downstairs was a massive table of different desserts. out their website here for more info.

Andrea Bocelli biopic 'The Music of Silence' arrives on DVD Monday 29 October 2018.
'The Music of Silence' is a 2017 Italian biographical film directed by Michael Radford, based on the 1999 novel of the same name written by the tenor Andrea Bocelli and freely inspired by his childhood life until the beginning of his great career. Bocelli is played by Toby Sebastian with the alter ego of Amos Bardi. The Italian tenor physically appears in a scene of the film and his presence accompanies the entire film in the form of a first-person narrative.
Born with an eye condition that eventually leads to his blindness, Andrea Bocelli pursues his ambition and becomes a popular singer and songwriter...running time is 115 minutes...
Andrea Bocelli will perform concerts across the world, including two huge shows in London this weekend.
Andrea Bocelli will play at The O2 Arena in London on Friday 2 & Saturday 3 November 2018.

OLAFUR ARNALDS live at The Palladium, London.
Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Olafur Arnalds is playing a UK tour in October to promote his fourth solo album
which is released on Mercury KX / Universal.
‘re:member’ comes out on 24th August, and the Icelander is set to take the record on a world tour, which runs for the rest of the year, finishing in his hometown of Reykjavik just before Christmas.
In May 2018 he sold out The Royal Albert Hall and returns for a full UK tour that includes
two nights at The London Palladium on 30/31 Oct 2018.
He is behind the Broadchurch tv series soundtrack.
It’s going to be an incredible show – 3 pianos on stage, Ólafur will be playing one and the other two ‘Stratus Pianos’ are self-playing, semi-generative player pianos that are triggered when Ólafur plays (they basically look like they’re playing themselves!) There is a huge lights show too that Ólafur has programmed alongside the music.
This was the second of his two shows here at The Palladium and the final date on his European Tour.
OLAFUR ARNALDS arrived on stage at 8.45pm and played a full two hour set.
Pretty amazing how Olafur and the likes of fellow piano player Nils Frahm have quietly become so popular.
All the music was instrumental and his laid back chat between songs was very humble.
He said the majority of the show would feature tracks from the recent album.
He was backed by a four piece string section and a drummer/percussionist.
A nice light show that matched the mood of the tracks very well.
Olafur mixes strings and piano with loops and beats crossing over from ambient/electronic to pop.
It was a very unique show with Olafur playing his piano in the middle and this generated the
two self-playing pianos either side of him along with the lush strings.
Olafur said he was looking forward to going home after 33 shows in 35 days.
The final track was dedicated to his Grandmother with who he would listen to Strauss as a youngster.
A very respectful crowd gave him a full standing ovation at the end.

Wednesday 31 October 2018.

SPURS 0 MAN CITY Wembley Stadium...
Mega top of the table clash as it is 5th against 3rd.
This fixture last season, played on a Saturday afternoon in mid-April, attracted a crowd of just over 80,000.
On this chilly Monday night just 56,854 showed up, well it was live on SKY tv.
There was a minutes silence for the dead in the tragic Leicester helicopter crash.
At half-time Steve Perryman came on the pitch to talk about Glenn Hoddle and how good he was.
Fingers crossed that Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle gets well soon after his heart attack on his 61st birthday.
A pretty average game , but great to see big name players on both sides.
Man City scored a great goal early on and managed to hang on to their lead.

Monday 29 October 2018.
The rumours of this All-Star Band seem to have been true as they announce a short notice gig.
Catch a free show (via lottery) from members of Generation X (Billy Idol, Tony James) and the
Sex Pistols (Steve Jones, Paul Cook) at The Roxy in Los Angeles, California, America.
The gig will be tomorrow night (Tuesday).
Doubt if they will play the UK due to Steve Jones not wanting to leave America for anything.

Sunday 28 October 2018... I went to two events today.
NFL live at Wembley Stadium....1pm to 5pm....
This year’s three Wembley games conclude when the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles facing Shahid Khan’s Jacksonville Jaguars at the venue their owner was trying to buy. It looks the most promising fixture of this year’s three.
A massive full house crowd of 85, 870 here to create a fantastic atmosphere.
Shahid Khan can’t buy Wembley Stadium, and his teams can’t buy a win. The day after the Fulham owner saw his side lose 3-0 at home to Bournemouth his Jacksonville Jaguars team were beaten 24-18 by the Philadelphia Eagles at the stadium he had hoped to own. To add insult to injury, London doesn’t seem to care.
His Jaguars have been regular visitors to Wembley, playing one game per year here in each of the past five. By now the capital should have taken them to its heart, but the neutral-majority crowd was overwhelmingly behind the Eagles.
6.30pm to 9.30pm
GUN CONTROL with me on drums had rehearsals in North Acton in the evening.
We are putting our setlist order in place...not perfect but getting there...
Remember we play a free gig in Acton on Saturday 10 Nov 2018...see above gig list for full info.

Sunday 28 October 2018.
SEX PISTOLS classic album 'Never Mind The Bollocks' album was released 41 years ago today.
The CEO of a plumbing firm has announced that his company will be paying a delivery driver to ride around London in a taxi emblazoned with the slogan 'Bollocks to Brexit'.
Self-confessed 'millionaire plumber' Charlie Mullins, of Pimlico Plumbers, unveiled the company's new vehicle on Twitter. It comes after he paid for dozens of digital signs to be put up around the city rejecting the result of the 2016 referendum.
The taxi colours are yellow and black...just like the NMTB album cover.

Saturday 27 October 2018.
TOM ROBINSON BAND + Lee Forsyth-Griffiths live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
TRB are playing a UK tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut album.
'Power In The Darkness' - the Tom Robinson Band's debut album - was released in 1978. It was followed by their 28-date Out Of The Darkness tour of the UK and Ireland, with Stiff Little Fingers as special guests.
I was at both the London shows at Hammersmith Odeon on that tour in Oct 1978.
I have seen Tom Robinson play live around 20 times since 1977.
I saw him last year at The 100 Club when he put his band together after years as a solo artist.
Tom is also a BBC 6 Music radio presenter and long-time LGBT rights activist.
I saw TRB headline the legendary Rock Against Racism show in 1978 with The Clash supporting.
Tom Robinson Band,Steel Pulse,Clash,X Ray Spex Victoria Park, London 30.04.1978
Lee Forsyth-Griffiths arrived on stage at 8.15pm and played for 25 mins.
A self-styled “shit-kicker from Moston” Lee Forsyth-Griffiths was discovered as a youthful prodigy by Paul Morley in the late 90s and signed to ZTT Records. After a spectacular falling-out with superstar producer Trevor Horn, Lee disowned his debut album Northern Songs and returned in disgust to civilian life in North Manchester.
Now Lee is back, older, wiser, and on storming form. His tender/tough delivery and aching vulnerability make him Manchester’s answer to the likes of José Gonzáles and Ray Lamontagne, whilst Elbow’s Guy Garvey compared Lee’s voice to John Martyn.
His 25 mins set went down well with the crowd.
TOM ROBINSON BAND arrived on stage at 9.10pm and played for 85 mins.
Tom plays the 'Power in the Darkness' album in full track order as the main part of the set.
The encores feature his best known hit singles.
Lots of hilarious anecdotes on stage from Tom, that the crowd loved.
Lots of powerful lyrics , some have been updated to reflect current times.
Tom is still wearing his heart on his sleeve.
A great show.
Full Tom Robinson Band full setlist played tonight...

Friday 26 October 2018.
Day 2 of BluesFest at the 02 Arena.
Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters + Van Morrison live at The 02 Arena, London.
Robert Plants first London show since he turned 70 on 20 August 2018.
This will be Robert's biggest ever solo headline show in London.
In August , Robert Plant spoke highly of Van Morrison "I used to open the show for Van
in Stourbridge Town Hall in the 1960s.He was tremendous. He still is".
Van Morrison has been on a creative roll in the past two years. He is about to release ‘The Prophet Speaks’,
his FIFTH album since 30 September 2016.
I have seen both of them many times before as solo artists.
I was lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin in 1975 at Earls Court and their re-union show in 2007.
You have to admire Robert Plant sticking to his solo career rather than a multi millions payday with Led Zep.
Like last night , it is pretty full tonight....maybe 95% tickets sold.
Most of the crowd are in early to see Van Morrison.
We have nice seats in the guest list block on the right of stage.
VAN MORRISON & band arrived on stage at 7.30pm and played for 90 mins.
Van has use of the two big side screens for live gig footage.
Delivering a brisk, faultless 90-minute set, he storms through old and new numbers and barely pauses for breath. Accompanied by a slick six-piece band, we’re treated to a masterclass featuring keyboards, guitars, double bass, trumpets, glockenspiel – and funky backing vocals. As well as hitting all his notes effortlessly, Van himself frequently dives onto the saxophone and harmonica.
A great show although a few songs were more suited to smaller theatres than this big arena.
Full Van Morrison setlist played tonight...

ROBERT PLANT & band arrived on stage at 9.30pm and played for 90 mins.
Robert has use of all three big screens with the main middle one mixing live footage and images.
Robert still looks and sounds amazing for 70 with his mane of hair.
His band are top notch as they mix Americana, blues and re-workings of Led Zep classics.
Folk violinist Seth Lakeman is great on a few songs.
The newer songs are really good.
Robert clearly loving performing with this outfit.
A great show.

Thursday 25 October 2018.
This was the opening night of BluesFest at the 02 Arena.
JOHN FOGERTY + STEVE MILLER BAND live at The 02 Arena, London.
At the age of 73, John Fogerty plays his biggest ever London headline show.
I first saw him in 2000 when he supported Tina Turner at Wembley Stadium.
That was his first London show since 1972.
On June 29, 2006 I was at his first headlining British concert since 1972, at the Hammersmith Apollo.
I have seen him a couple of more times since then.
He will play solo material as well as Creedence Clearwater Revival classic tracks.
John Fogerty is playing just two shows in Europe - London and Dublin
I saw Steve Miller Band three times in 1982 at Hammersmith Odeon.
After that was a massive gap of 28 years when he came back to tour the UK again when i saw
him at The Royal Albert Hall in 2010.
Steve Miller is now aged 75.
A nice pairing of American acts whose careers have spanned around 50 years.
I have a great seat just a dozen rows from the stage in Block A.
The tickets in block A cost a whopping £145 plus booking fees.
The venue is pretty full, I would say 95% of tickets sold.
STEVE MILLER BAND arrive on stage at 7.30pm and play for 90 mins.
Steve Miller Band have use of the two side screens for live footage.
Steve looks like Jerry Springer these days but still plays some nifty guitar.
For one song he used a 19 string sitar-guitar he bought 50 years ago for 150 dollars.
Near the end he played a mega trio of songs that had everyone on their feet.
'Rockin' Me' , 'The Joker' and 'Jungle Love'.
An enjoyable set.

JOHN FOGERTY arrives on stage at 9pm and plays for 85 mins.
Oddly enough John Fogerty played 5 mins less than Steve Milller Band.
Perhaps they should have reduced Steve Miller Band set by 15/ 20 mins and added it to John Fogerty's set.
John Fogerty and his band include a three man brass section.
He has use of all three big screens with the middle one mixing live footage of the gig along
with nice late 1960s videos including CCR , Vietnam War, Woodstock Festival etc.
He has some pyros and flames during a few songs.
For a couple of songs John used the same guitar and amp that he had at Woodstock.
John's hair is dyed far too dark for his age.
His band include his son on guitar.
Loads of CCR classics played although a few of them seemed a bit rushed/short.
For one song the brass section played while walking through the crowd.
A great show , although he should have played a bit longer.
Full John Fogerty setlist played tonight...

set on Alex's idyllic Cotswolds farm every summer.

We did not go skating but we did go on the carousel.
There was a dj playing tunes and a singer performed some cover tunes including Guns N Roses.
Complimentary prosecco, wines, beers and canapés for all guests.
We got a goodie bag on departure that included a nice winter scarf from Regatta Outdoor. their website here for more info and to buy tickets.

Wednesday 24 October 2018.
Happy Birthday to BILL WYMAN who is 82 today.

Tuesday 23 October 2018.
U2 live at The 02 Arena, London.
U2 play the first of two sold out shows at The 02 Arena.
U2 return in Sept/Oct/Nov for a European Arena Tour.
I have seen U2 over 20 times since i saw them supporting Talking Heads in 1980 at Hammersmith Odeon.
This includes three shows at The 02 Arena in 2015 and shows at Twickenham and Trafalgar Square in 2017.
Only two indoor London shows on this tour but that is probably due to them playing two massive
outdoor shows at Twickenham Stadium only last year.
That tour was when they played 'The Joshua Tree' album in full and judging by previous tour reviews
there will not be any of the tracks played from that album on this tour.
The venue is totally rammed and they have sold seating behind the stage.
Floor standing is £70 but the Red Zone front of stage area and The Deck are £260 a pop.
Those in The Red Zone must feel a bit down when U2 later play around 30 mins of the show
at the other end of the arena on the smaller b stage.
Level 1 seats are £190 and £100.
U2 arrived on stage at 8.30pm and played for 2 hours 15 mins.
They are using the mega T shaped stage production from their 2015 tour.
This really is a mind boggling visual treat as the massive screen/cage is sideways so everyone has a
great view and the band play underneath and inside it as well and it shows great images on some songs.
As usual Bono knows exactly what to say to the crowd to get them fully engaged.
'Elevation' and 'Vertigo' on the small stage were fantastic.
'Pride (in the Name of Love' was a total 11/10 as the band played in four separate areas of the arena.
'New Years Day' was incredible as The Edge played keyboards and guitar at the same time.
Bono's animated resurrection of his old character MacPhisto on the big screen
as part washed up rock star and part devil was superb.
Bono gave shout outs to The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Sex Pistols,The Clash, The Slits
and John Giddings.
As usual U2 were stunning and will def be in my best gigs of the year list.
They leave out classic tracks from The Joshua Tree including...
Where The Streets Have No Name
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
With Or Without You
Bullet The Blue Sky

I popped along to Carnaby Street see this for a few minutes.
It looks great as the lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody are spread out all along Carnaby Street in neon above your head.
On Sunday 21 October, London's iconic Carnaby Street hosted the world's first ever Queen-inspired light installation and immersive exhibition.
Cast members Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joe Mazzello along with band members Brian May and Roger Taylor launched the installation and participated in interviews with host Dave Berry to an excited crowd.
It will be there each evening until early Jan 2019 so well worth a look.

Sunday 21 October 2018...2pm to 6pm...
NFL American Football is at Wembley Stadium.
Wembley Stadium will host NFL fixtures under the arch for the twelfth successive year.
This is the second of the three NFL games held at Wembley Stadium this year
Tennessee Titans taking on the LA Chargers.
It is a lovely sunny afternoon today.
Everyone gathers a couple of hours before the game for entertainment outside the ground.
A massive crowd here as there was 84,300 tickets sold, so pretty much sold out.
I always watch the Super Bowl final on tv but have never been to an NFL game before.
Fans are wearing their team shirts and snapping up the merch.
Lots of folks here from America , Canada and Europe.
Free team flags are left on all the seats.
You are allowed to bring beer into the seating areas (you cannot do that at football games).
The pa commentary is All American.
We have the American and UK National Anthems sung before the game.
It is a great atmosphere when the game is on.
For those of you that do not know the game is 60 mins long over 4 x 15 mins.
With the stop and starts a game lasts around 3 hours.
However whenever there is a stoppage we have music over the pa, interviews on the big screen,
t-shirts blasted into the crowd and of course the cheerleaders performing routines.
It was a close game with a tense finish.
Shahid Khan may not own Wembley any time soon but Philip Rivers of the Los Angeles Chargers certainly does, for one week at least. The veteran quarterback led his explosive offence to a nailbiting 20-19 victory and left the Tennessee Titans in tatters as they gambled on a game-winning two-point conversion.

Sunday 21 October 2018.
Sad news about a terrible train crash in Taiwan.
As of 9.35pm on Sunday, all 366 passengers onboard - including the dead and injured - had been evacuated or removed from the wreckage, the Taiwan Railways Administration said. At least 18 people died and 187 were injured.
Fifteen of the 18 casualties were in the first three cars, reported local media. Among those who died, the youngest was nine years old.
I was on that same train route in January when i toured around Taiwan

Saturday 20 October 2018...3pm to 5pm...
Reading 3 Millwall 1
Yakou Meite netted a brace for Reading as they eased the pressure on manager Paul Clement by beating fellow Championship strugglers Millwall.
Meite headed Reading into the lead as he glanced in Tyler Blackett's near-post cross but Murray Wallace
levelled for Millwall within six minutes.
Clement's side regained the lead on the stroke of half-time after Blackett was fouled by Mahlon Romeo in the penalty area.
Sam Baldock converted from the spot, as Romeo was booked, and the Royals made the points safe when Meite headed in a Leandro Bacuna corner late on.
Millwall drop into the bottom three after a run of just one league win in their past 10 games, which came two weeks ago at home against Aston Villa.
Millwall were a bit unlucky with referee decisions and the woodwork but a good home win for Reading.
The legendary Millwall brought 2000 of their infamous fans with them.
When Reading scored the third goal , Millwall fans starting tearing down the fence that separates them
from the home supporters but too many security stewards were there to stop them.

Friday 19 October 2018.
SAXON + FM live at The Roundhouse, London.
Saxon are playing a sold out show on their UK & European Tour.
It is the first time they have played The Roundhouse in their long career.
I have seen Saxon around 25 times since 1979 when they supported Motörhead at Hammersmith Odeon.
I saw FM six times in the 1980s including a Hammersmith Odeon headline show in 1989.
FM arrived on stage at 7.50pm and played for 45 mins.
They played a good set of catchy pop rock songs.
They thanked Iron Maiden for the royalties as "That Girl" was covered by Iron Maiden as a
B-side to their single "Stranger in a Strange Land".
Full FM setlist played tonight...

SAXON arrived on stage at 9.05pm and played for two hours.
They have lots of lights and Marshall Amps along with a few smoke flumes.
They are a hard working band who play many shows around the world each year.
An example was given by Biff on stage as he got the crowd to sing louder.
"We have put the miles in this week to get here, Monday was Paris , Tues was Utrecht
and last night we were in Glasgow, so make some fucking noise".
Loads of their classic anthems played including 'Strong Arm Of The Law', 'And The Bands Played On',
'747 (Strangers in the Night)', 'Princess of the Night' and 'Wheels of Steel'.
For final song 'Denim and Leather' singer Biff Byford got a fans band patch ridden jean jacket
from the crowd and wore it for the song and signed it for him when he gave it back at the end.
A Saxon show is pretty the same as last year and the year before but it's always great.

Private view of 'Daft Apeth' by Serge Pizzorno of KASABIAN at No Ho Showrooms,
67 Great Tichfield Street, London W1.
A small blank canvas space with only 50 or 60 guests here but a cool crowd.
Serge and other members of KASABIAN are here (except singer Tom).
Also here was Serge good friend , the footballer Peter Crouch and his wife Abbey Clancy.
I got my picture taken with Serge and Peter Crouch.
Also here were Fearne Cotton,Carl Barat and Mike Pickering (ex M People).
Pickering now works as A&R within the Columbia label of Sony BMG where he A&Rs Kasabian and others.
Noel Fielding and magician Dynamo turned up after we had left to get to the gig.
Serge wacky art is a bit similar to Noels.
Complimentary Peroni beers for all guests.
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN live at The Palladium, London.
Echo & The Bunnymen have returned with their new album 'The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon', the record includes reimagined versions of classic tracks and two new songs.
I have seen them around 15 times since 1979 when they were a support band.
I saw them earlier this year at The Royal Albert Hall.
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN arrived on stage at 9.20pm and played for 85 mins.
The set felt a bit short for a band with so much material to chose from.
The new album has reworked versions of their songs with a string section but tonight is
the full band show with no strings in sight.
Loads of their classic hits played along with a few lesser known numbers.
Singer Ian McCulloch as always super cool in shades and leather jacket as he pouts away.
His low key Liverpudlian banter between songs is still hard to make out most of the time.
A great show.

November 27, 2018

Monday 26 Nov 2018.
I bought this stunning single when it first came out 42 years ago today.
"Anarchy in the U.K." by The Sex Pistols. It was released as the band's debut single on 26 November 1976 and was later featured on their superb album, "Never Mind the Bollocks".
I was aged 17 and a bit...they were the perfect band at the perfect time...
The record still sounds incredible today...imagine the impact it had back in 1976...
Happy Birthday to TINA TURNER who is 79 today.
Tonight on BBC1 at 10.45pm is a new interview with her.
A nice bit of promotion for her autobiography 'My Love Story ' that came out last month.
I have seen Tina Turner live several tines including headlining Hammersmith Odeon with Ike Turner in 1974
and headlining Wembley Stadium in 2000.

Saturday 24 November 2018...5.30pm to 7.30pm...
SPURS 3 CHELSEA Wembley Stadium.
We were again upstairs in Level 5.
A few empty blocks up here but still a huge crowd of 55,465.
Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season came crashing down after an impressive Tottenham win at Wembley.
Dele Alli opened the scoring for the hosts after just seven minutes with a flicked header at the near post.
Harry Kane doubled Spurs' lead when he found the bottom corner after Chelsea let him shoot from distance.
Son Heung-min made it 3-0 early in the second half after the Korean winger produced a sensational solo goal.
Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score a late consolation for Chelsea with a powerful header late on.
Spurs now move above Chelsea in the league table.

Friday 23 November 2018.
THE DAMNED + JOHNNY MOPED live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
British punk rock icons The Damned are playing another UK tour for their Tony Visconti
produced album 'Evil Spirits'.
I have seen The Damned play over 30 times...including 10 times in 1977 alone...
I was at their special 40th anniversary show at The Royal Albert Hall in 2016.
The Damned still feature two original members - Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible.
Other members in the band include Paul Gray on bass who was an original member of
Eddie and the Hot Rods and has had previous stints playing with The Damned.
Support act is Johnny Moped.
Johnny Moped became one of the pioneering punk bands that played live in the first few months of London’s now-legendary Roxy Club in early 1977.
I saw them play four times in 1977/1978 including twice when they supported The Damned in 1977.
Chrissie Hynde and Captain Sensible were in the band before their respective big name band success.
A documentary about the band,' Basically, Johnny Moped' , premiered in September 2013.
I saw this documentary which is well worth seeing.
A punk rock gig so plenty of people here that i know tonight.
JOHNNY MOPED arrived on stage at 8pm and played for 30 mins.
Johnny Moped takes to the stage in his trademark sleeveless and studded leather biker jacket.
Johnny started playing gigs again a few years ago after a lengthy break.
I suppose he never had the quality of the other bands back in 1977 but great to see him live again.
Johnny ended his set with "Hard Lovin’ Man" which appeared on the hit various artists album
'Live at the Roxy WC2' (Harvest Records, 1977).
THE DAMNED arrived on stage at 9pm and played for 1 hour 45 mins.
Lots of fans jumping around front of stage as you would imagine.
Chants of "Sensibles a wanker" ring out but it's a term of endearment here.
Dave Vanian still has his gothic vampire look with slicked back jet black hair.
Lots of tracks from their recent album played along with pure punk classics including
'Love Song', 'New Rose' , 'Neat Neat Neat' and 'Smash it Up'.
The band put on Christmas hats for the last three songs.
A great show.
Full Damned setlist played tonight...

Thursday 22 November 2018...I went to three events tonight...
5.30pm to 6.40pm
MOUNT STREET Christmas Lights and The Connaught Christmas Tree Switch On -
Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1.
Around 1000 guests here on this posh Mayfair street full of top quality designer stores and Scott's restaurant.
Buzzcocks guitarist STEVE DIGGLE was a random sighting here.
Upmarket Mayfair hotel The Connaught unveiled their new tree, designed by conceptual artist and Royal Academician Sir Michael Craig-Martin. Craig-Martin is best known for his work The Oak Tree, which hangs proudly in the National Gallery of Australia.
Standing nine metres tall on Carlos Place, the giant Norway spruce is adorned with 12,000 bulbs that, for the next month or so, will constantly change colour, glow and fade throughout the night.
Sir Michael Craig-Martin switched the lights on at 6.30pm.
This is the fourth Christmas collaboration with an artist for the luxury hotel, which has previously worked with Tracey Emin, Sir Anthony Gormley and Damien Hirst.
The Connaught spoilt guests with free mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate. Nearby, Mount Street switched on their Christmas lights in unison with the hotel, celebrating with a street party.
Among the festivities were live DJs, Christian Louboutin , Creed and Linda Farrow were serving champagne in store.
Other stores handing out complimentary drinks and mince pies etc.
Estate agents Carter Jonas were giving out decent goodie bags.
6.45pm to 8.30pm
PURDEY Awards For Game and Conservation, 57-58 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1.
Very handy that this store is located at the end of Mount Street where we were earlier.
Around 150 guests here in this historic country clothing and antique rifle store.
A dozen awards were handed out from 7.15pm to 7.45pm to shooting estates.
English cricket legend DAVID GOWER handed out the awards.
Complimentary Laurent Perrier champers, gin n tonics, wines and canapés for all guests.

Wednesday 21 November 2018...I went to two events tonight...
6pm to 7.45pm
NARNIA TERRACE - launch party - at Bluebird, 350 Kings Road, Chelsea, London SW3.
Narnia comes to the King's Road with the arrival of three new heated wooden chalets on the
Bluebird Chelsea's courtyard this winter.
We are outside in the courtyard but there are plenty of heaters keeping the 150 guests warm.
There is a female dj playing some tunes in the background.
Complimentary vodka cocktails, gin cocktails, mulled wines, Peroni beers, canapes and mince pies. the Bluebird website here for more info.
8.15pm to 11.15pm
TACO BELL - launch party - 100 King Street, Hammersmith , London W6.
Taco Bell is an American chain of fast food restaurants based out of Irvine, California and a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc. The restaurants serve a variety of Tex-Mex foods that include tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, novelty and specialty items, and a variety of "value menu" items. As of 2018, Taco Bell serves more than 2 billion customers each year at 7,000 restaurants, more than 80 percent of which are owned and operated by independent franchisees and licensees.
Taco Bell opens a restaurant at 100 King Street in Hammersmith, two decades after closing its site at Leicester Square.
A bit odd that they have not been in London at all for that amount of time.
This is the first of three openings in London this month, although they have many outlets across the UK.
Around 70 or 80 guests here including the Indian owners who have their Bentleys parked outside.
Complimentary spirits and mixers along with prosecco and pints of lager and different soft drinks.
We had a selection of tacos and burritos which were nice but the fries were tasteless.
Desserts included some nice classic churros with chocolate or caramel.
The staff were great as they fussed over all guests as they brought food to your table.
There was a dj playing tunes and there was a fun photo booth here.
At 10pm the owners and their friends started doing a bit of 'Bhangra dad dancing' which was good fun.
The venue is five minutes from Hammersmith Apollo so easy to pop in their before a gig there.
Cheap tacos are its speciality (in the US it’s known for its ‘dollar menu’) and here it’ll be doing a sweet Tuesday deal where you get a single taco and a beer for just £2. The first Taco Bell location will be in Hammersmith, but more branches are due to open before Christmas in Holborn, Fulham and Croydon.
All guests got a goodie bag with a Taco Bell umbrella and hot and cold food to take away.
Amazingly it was still going strong at 11.15pm when we departed.

Tuesday 20 November 2018....6.30pm to 10pm...
Around 500 guests at this annual party.
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins was here with her husband.
Always nice to be at this luxury hotel as it brings back memories of the great BAFTA parties
that disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein used to throw here.
The weather is rain all day so the event has been moved indoors from the courtyard.
At 7.50pm Take That singer GARY BARLOW took to the stage to sing three Take That hits.
1.Greatest Day
2.Back for Good
3.Rule the World
All three songs had the crowd singing along, shame he did not play a bit longer.
The backing band here that Take That use are also the backing band for Jeff Lynne's ELO.
At 8.30pm there was a nice fireworks display in the was still raining.
Complimentary Ruinart champers, different cocktails, wines, mulled wine, beers, canapés,
bowls of steak n dumplings, pork n apple sauce buns, toffee apples, hot chocolate etc.
This event is always a great party.

Tuesday 20 November 2018.
Fact of the day.
Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame, which turns 10 in 2019, has reached a huge milestone in the UK, passing 3 million combined sales across physical, downloads, and streams – which makes it 10-times platinum!

Monday 19 November 2018.
GARY NUMAN WITH SKAPARIS ORCHESTRA live at The Royal Albert Hall, London.
Part of a seven date UK orchestra tour by Gary Numan.
I have seen Gary Numan over 25 times since 1980.
He was a regular when i worked front stage security at Hammersmith Odeon in the 1980s when
he would play two or three nights there on each tour rather than play a night at Wembley Arena.
British electro pioneer Gary Numan makes his Royal Albert Hall debut this year, with The Skaparis Orchestra!
In 2017 Numan released Savage: Songs From A Broken World, and earned the best reviews of his career, entering the UK charts at No.2. This show will feature songs drawn not only from his highly successful Savage album, but also key songs from his vast back catalogue.
Support act is Chris Payne, who was Gary Numan former band keyboard/viola player.
CHRIS PAYNE was the support act and i saw 30 mins of his set.
Great to see that Gary Numan has invited an ex band mate to support him.
It was mainly keyboard instrumentals but ended with a nice cover of 'Fade to Grey' where he was
joined by another ex band mate of Gary Numan from the 1980s - Russell Webb.
Gary Numan has some of the most loyal fans in music and chants of "Numan , Numan, Numan"
ring out from the crowd all through the interval and between songs in Gary's set.
GARY NUMAN arrived on stage at 8.35pm and played for 2 hours 10 mins.
Around 30 musicians on stage when you add band and orchestra members together.
There was a big screen showing pre-recorded images along with nice lights and lasers.
Gary and the band are dressed in caveman type cloth along with warpaint stripes on their faces.
A nice big hypnotic sound when the synth keyboards and the orchestra are at full tilt.
Older anthems like 'Down In The Park' and 'Are Friends Electric ' are mega but as he is featuring recent
material there is no room for classics like 'Cars' , 'We Are Glass' and '' I Die, You Die'.
Some of the newer songs sounded a bit samey but it was good Gary playing new material.
As it was the first time Gary has played this iconic venue he said "it's the best night of his life".
A great show.
Full Gary Numan setlist played tonight...

I was sitting right of stage, a couple of rows behind SEX PISTOLS drummer Paul Cook and his wife.
They were with Paul's band mate from The Professionals , Chris McCormack who played with
Gary Numan from 2006 to 2009.
Paul Cooks wife Jeni showed me a great picture of her with Gary Numan in 1980.
I asked Paul "any chance of one or two UK shows by Generation Sex" and he replied " very unlikely".

Sunday 18 November 2018...2pm to 4pm...
ENGLAND 2 CROATIA Wembley Stadium.
We are up in Level 5 again.
A few empty seats but it's pretty much a 85,000 capacity for this important game.
All seats have a free Three Lions flag on it for ticket holders.
A great second half comeback by England after going a goal down.
Two late goals, from substitute Jesse Lingard and captain Harry Kane, rescued three vital points which meant Gareth Southgate’s side took top spot in Group 4 ahead of Spain and World Cup runners-up Croatia.
England secure their place in the semi-finals of the competition and relegate their opponents.

Saturday 17 November 2018.

We have two other acts tonight supporting her.
MEE AND THE BAND arrive on stage at 6.50pm and play for 45 mins.
They had some big headwear and dancers on some songs.
The tracks were pretty average.

A more Poppy sound that including a few recent chart cover hits.

Maryla is aged 72 but looks much younger with her blonde wig.
She has a full band and two female backing singers.
During a couple of songs she invited male fans onstage for a dance and it appears to be a custom
for Polish blokes to take their tops off when they have had a few drinks, to big cheers from the crowd.
Most of the songs had a type of Eurovision waltzing pop sound that got the crowd to sway along to.
All her songs were in Polish.
It was all decent enough and the crowd loved it.

Friday 16 November 2018.

Callum Wilson marked his debut with a goal in the second half to seal a straightforward victory for the hosts.
Wayne Rooney was brought on in the 58th minute but couldn't quite seal his final appearance with a goal.
Wayne came very close to scoring at the end but it was not to be.
Rooney was given a guard of honour before the game as he entered the Wembley pitch with his family.
Usain Bolt was introduced to the crowd at half-time.
The night before this game, Usain Bolt attended the launch party for his Caribbean restaurant in East London.

MC50 (MC5) + Michael Monroe live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
MC50/MC5 celebrate 50 years of their classic American garage rock.
Original member Wayne Kramer has enlisted a core band of musicians hailing from different, yet simpatico backgrounds for MC50: Kim Thayil (Soundgarden, Audioslave); Marcus Durant (Zen Guerilla); Billy Gould (Faith No More); and Brendan Canty (Fugazi).
I saw them play The 100 Club several years ago but they don't play the UK that often.
They had a 30 year hiatus with only a few shows played in America in that time.
Get there early as support act Michael Monroe (ex Hanoi Rocks singer) is great live.
My kind of garage punk gig as lots of folks here that i know.
I spotted punk rock band The Ruts and Stiff Records singer Jona Lewis here.
Level 3 is closed but a much bigger gig for them this time due to the MC50 all-star band.
MICHAEL MONROE arrived on stage 7.45pm and played for 45 mins.
Michael Monroe is now aged 56 but his skinny blonde frame is a non stop energetic whizz.
He jumped into the crowd a few times at the front and played at bit of sax.
A 45 mins set with 12 songs crammed in.
Loads of his best tunes played in a great set.
Full Michael Monroe setlist played tonight...
Ballad of the Lower East Side
Trick of the Wrist
Malibu Beach Nightmare (Hanoi Rocks song)
Old King's Road
This Ain't No Love Song
Long Way to Go (Alice Cooper cover)
Nothin's Alright (Demolition 23. song)
Hammersmith Palais (Demolition 23. song)
Not Faking It (Nazareth cover)
Up Around the Bend (Creedence Clearwater Revival cover)
Dead, Jail or Rock 'n' Roll
MC50/MC5 arrived on stage at 9.05pm and played for 85 mins.
The first eight songs are all of their classic 'Kick Out The Jams' album.
MC5’s Kick Out The Jams was recorded live 50 years ago.
While it may not have fame on the scale of contemporaries like the Beatles’ White Album, Kick Out The Jams has continued to be listened to. Their raw, energetic sound and revolutionary political outlook are seen as a major influence on the punk, metal and hardcore that followed.
Joining Kramer in the MC50 line-up are figures from some of the many bands they influenced down the line: Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil on guitar, Faith No More’s Billy Gould on bass, Brendan Canty of Fugazi on drums and, a towering presence in the middle of the stage, big curly haired singer Marcus Durrant, of Zen Guerilla.
This band sound much tighter than the one i saw at The 100 Club.
A great show.
Full MC50 setlist played tonight...

Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is released – with Rami Malek’s as iconic frontman Freddie Mercury.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.
All the songs sound fantastic in a cinema and all the actors do a great job.
A very enjoyable film to watch and well worth going to.
It has a running time of 2 hours 14 minutes.
Remember to visit the Queen pop-up store and lights in Carnaby Street in celebration of the film.
I was lucky to have seen Freddie Mercury singing with Queen 15 times including the greatest concert
of all time which was Live Aid in 1985.

Chucking it down with rain all day may have put a couple of folks off from going out but the pub
is nicely full with 70 or 80 in the audience.
My friend Frank who does some great punk art as Mal-One has given us a stunning Gun Control backdrop.
I also have a Gun Control logo on my bass drum.
We are playing on the floor as this venue does not have a proper stage.
Our second guitarist (Bill Gaynor) turns up at 8pm after a delayed drive up from Gosport.
He sets his guitar up and we are now ready to rock.
We have our own PA system and mini sound desk
Great to see so many friends in the crowd, many who saw us in the early 1980s.
GUN CONTROL arrived on stage at 9.15pm and played for around 45 mins.
Great for me to see quality bands every week but you cannot replicate the feeling when people are
clapping and cheering for our own original songs.
All the songs we played tonight, including the covers were in our early 1980s set.
It was thrilling to be playing in front of an audience again.
A little bit of nerves but plenty of excitement too.
It all came together on the night well and the feedback from everyone after was great.
The landlord said it was his busiest night in the two years he has been there.
Straight after the show he said " come back at Christmas and do it again".
A great result for all concerned so a pretty amazing night.
Full setlist played tonight...

Friday 09 November 2018...6.15pm to 9.15pm...
My band GUN CONTROL had a rehearsal session in Park Royal/North Acton.
We ran through the setlist a couple of times.
We are still not perfect...but our punk rock attitude means it doesn't need to be perfect.
Most of the crowd will be friends so hopefully they won't be too harsh on us.
After rehearsals we went for a couple of beers in the pub that we are playing tomorrow night.
See you there....

Friday 09 November 2018.
Another musician has sadly passed away.
Cellist Hugh McDowell, who was best known for his work with ELO and Wizzard throughout the 70s,
has died at the age of 65.
I saw him play live with ELO and Wizzard in the 1970s.

Thursday 08 November 2018...I went to three events tonight...
5pm to 6pm
There was a stage set up where a band played 30 mins of Queen cover versions.
Always good to hear classics like 'Killer Queen' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
This was a great pairing to the Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen light installation above our heads.
There was pop-up van giving out complimentary Bacardi cocktails.
6.15pm to 9.45pm

Around 400 or 500 guests here including lots of very nice semi-naked females.

A nice mix of slim girls and plus size girls.
At 6.15pm we had a female string quartet playing which was a bit random for the type of event it was.

Actors David Threlfall and Rufus Hound were here as they have the lead roles.
About Don Quixote...

Spurs 2 v PSV Eindhoven 1... UEFA Champions League at Wembley Stadium.
Around 46,000 here including over 4,000 away fans which meant Level 5 was half empty.
PSV have won 11 out of 11 in the Eredivisie this season but they have flattered to deceive in Europe and they have not won a Champions League tie since 2015. They started brightly and De Jong’s goal sparked delirium among their fans, who fired up the atmosphere with their songs and bouncing up and down.
Spurs missed a couple of good chances to draw level in the first half but Harry Kane managed to get two goals in the second half with the winner coming just before the end to the joy of Spurs fans.
Spurs and their fans greeted the final whistle with a mixture of elation and relief as they fashioned a turnaround that was starting to look increasingly unlikely to revive their fading Champions League aspirations.
Pochettino and his players know, however, that they simply must move their game on to another level if they are to get the results they need at home to Inter Milan and then that most daunting of tasks, away to Barcelona, to go through into the knockout stage.

Tuesday 06 November 2018.
THE SEX PISTOLS played their debut show this day in 1975
Forty three years ago, over the course of 15 minutes on a rainy November night in London's Charing Cross Road, four obstreperous youths with spiky haircuts and their famously troublemaking manager changed Western culture forever.
They supported Bazooka Joe (with Adam Ant on bass) at Central Saint Martins College.

Monday 05 November 2018.

A great party.
Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean. It’s also the least expensive. Besides low-cost living, tourists are drawn by perfect winter weather and more than 300 white sandy beaches lapped by turquoise seas.
Highlights include the dramatic karst landscapes of Viñales Valley, Spanish colonial towns such as Trinidad and the capital city itself. Havana belongs in another era, with its vintage American cars, art deco architecture and lack of violent crime.

OLD DOMINION live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Country music band from Nashville who are very popular back in America.
Both their albums have sold over 100,000 copies over there.
Their music is contemporary country with rock instrumentation, and has pop and hip hop overtones.
American country act Old Dominion are bringing a slice of Nashville over to the UK as they tour second studio album, Happy Endings. The band's musical abilities are highly acclaimed and sought after, having written an impressive string of hits for acts such as Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and Luke Bryan.
You wouldn't have heard of Old Dominion unless you were a big fan of 'new country music'.
Amazingly the show tonight is totally sold out.
ERIC PASLAY arrived on stage at 7.30pm and played for 20 mins.
Eric has released one album for EMI Nashville, which contains the singles "Friday Night", "Song About a Girl", and "She Don't Love You". In addition to these, Paslay has written several hit singles for other artists, and has collaborated with Amy Grant, Dierks Bentley, Charles Kelley, among others.
He played a decent set that featured the best tracks from his debut album.
WALKER HAYES and band arrived on stage at 8.05pm and played for 30 mins.
He has released two albums and had success in his home of America.
He has a more of a country pop feeling with some songs having a Justin Timberlake vibe to them.
OLD DOMINION arrived on stage at 9.05pm and played for 85 mins.
Their country songs have great lyrics that the crowd can sing loudly along to.
Some songs sounded a bit samey but they played a decent enough show.
An enjoyable evening of 'new country' acts.
